oW^ joins Giants

Giants Gaming have announced that they have secured the services of former Magistra player Oliver "oW^" Winther.

The announcements brings the player count on the team up to six, allowing them to mitigate the impact caused by the academic commitments of some of their members.

Oliver "oW^" Winther will reunite with Rubén "TorPe" Jesús Gómez Rodríguez after playing alongside the Spanish player for a brief period on TheTeamWithoutOrg, an international roster that also featured British veteran George "hudzG" Hoskins.

oW^ joins Spanish team Giants

With the Danish player's signing, Giants hope to overcome a poor run of form that has seen them get knocked out of the CEVO Main playoffs in the first Lower Bracket round and win just three of their first six matches in the ESL Masters, a €22,000 tournament featuring the best Spanish teams.

"I am very happy and excited to get this opportunity from the Giants family," Winther said in a statement.

"I have practised with the team already, and I believe we can do great things in the future.

"They are all very talented, both individually and as a team. I feel fortunate to have been invited to join this team, and I will give my best for them."

Giants currently have the following six-man roster:

Spain Jonathan "MusambaN1" Torrent
Spain Rubén "TorPe" Jesús Gómez Rodríguez
Spain Raúl "DeathZz" Jordán Nieto
Spain Javier "Vasili" Huélamo Gracia
Spain Iván "NaOw" González
Denmark Oliver "oW^" Winther

In Sweden, most learn Spanish as their C language (from year 6 to 9 in elementary school) partly because it's more widely used than German and French, but mostly because they're slackers and only plan on learning how to order a bucket of vodka ahead of their vacations to spain as they turn 16. The pragmatically oriented high performing students usually choose German because it's easier as it's more closely related to Swedish and because Germany, unlike spain, is relevant in academic fields. And then there's a few kids who learn French because god knows why. Some schools also offer D languages (year 8-9). Of students who continue learning their C and/or D languages, 25% percent take at least 1 further course in Spanish in the gymnasium (secondary upper school), and 14% and 11% for German and French respectively. A very limited amount of students also take Italian, Chinese, Japanese or Arabic.

ROFL let's keep it to the facts, dude. Unless you can back it up with facts that mostly "slackers" choose Spanish and "Pragmatically oriented high preforming students" choose German then I'd say it's not very fitting to state something like that. I'd believe many students choose Spanish because it's a more universal language than German which is not widely spoken outside Germany itself.

Personally I picked spanish, because I'd already tried french and german, which didn't go too well.. Fresh start :D In my school we had English from 3rd grade (even earlier than that now), french or german from 5th grade, spanish optional from 7th grade and onwards. Physics and chemistry was from 3rd grade too, iirc.

How many languages are you learning in dk? English + 2nd Language? And what are those? Is german only learned in border area? Would be logical

Clemenz0 isn't wrong, but he's not quite right either. It depends on what school you go to. The one I went to, taught english from 3rd grade (~8 years old), french or german (your pick) from 5th and spanish as an optional in 7th grade. I'm pretty sure they moved english to first or 2nd grade now, if not earlier than that. (I'm getting old) Some schools, including the one I went to, will sometimes offer courses like Italian and chinese, due to the fact that they have an international department (for expats, or danes returning home with kids, who haven't been living in Denmark until now). But yeah, some schools will only offer German as 3rd language. It depends on the geography, if you're in west/south-west part of Denmark, you're very likely to pick german anyway. Which is probably why they don't offer french classes.

In Norway you've English, Norwegian and Nynorsk(2nd written language in Norway) courses at least the first 10 years of school. At year 8 you choose a third course(Advanced English aka retards, French, Spanish or German) which you will take for 3 years(8th-10th) after that depending on your choice you will have English, Norwegian and possibly 1 more foreign course during the next 3 years(11-13th) before university/college. At 16 years of age you should be fluent in Norwegian and English, basic knowledge/fluent in optional third language, Swedish, some Danish (at least written) and if you live up north there is a good possibility you also know Sami

Man, Spanish is not that difficult to learn. Learning Spanish was easier than learning English for me. And as I was able to spend about 2 years in Madrid I would say it went quite well. There are way more challenging languages to learn, trust me.

Spanish is the easiest out of the languages you can learn in Sweden. I think you underestimate Sweden or overestimate your languages difficulty.

Spanish is quite easy to learn once you get the basics and grammar down. Took 3 years of it in middle school, then I lived in Barcelona (after 5 years of no spanish before the move) and did more than fine with it. Even managed to learn some catalan in the process. We have it as an option between german, spanish and french. Then you can continue learning it in highschool if you so want to. The teachers arent the best, but had a substitute for a while that was from el salvador that was great learning it from.

Like more than half of the Swedish students study Spanish(I guess it is kind of the same in Denmark). Only a few remembers it when they grow older though. But ow surely is one that can speak Spanish at least some what good, for this to make sense.
