Liquid to EPL semi-finals over EnVyUs

Liquid came from behind to beat EnVyUs 2-1 and progress to the last-four stage at the ESL Pro League Season 5 finals.

The series kicked off on Cobblestone, Liquid's map pick, and it was the North Americans who came out the livelier of the two as they stormed to an 8-1 lead. EnVyUs' defence then finally came to life as they picked up two rounds in a row, the second of which thanks to a quad kill from Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom, but Liquid kept the Frenchmen at bay and closed out the half with a commanding 11-4 lead.

With the sides now reversed, EnVyUs took control of the game. A triple kill from Christophe "SIXER" Xia in the pistol round set his team up for a massive run to tie the game at 11-11.

Liquid then brought EnVyUs' streak to an end on a force-buy, with Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski getting three kills with the CZ, and they followed that up with another round. Vincent "Happy" Schopenhauer immediately called a tactical pause to keep the momentum from swinging to the opposing side, and the move paid off as they won five of the next six rounds to take the map, 16-14.

Liquid through to the semi-finals

Train was the map that followed, and here EnVyUs got out to a fast 3-0 lead on the Terrorist side. After building up their bank, Liquid won four rounds in a row, with EnVyUs restoring parity thanks to three very important kills from Cédric "RpK" Guipouy. Liquid responded by taking three rounds in a row, but EnVyUs did not let their opponents run away with the lead and brought the deficit to a minimum at the end of the half.

The second half began with Liquid taking the pistol round with a B execute, with Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz picking up three kills. After losing both eco rounds, EnVyUs finally got a few rounds on the board on the CT side, cutting the gap to 11-10. However, Liquid were unwilling to let their lead slip and won five rounds in a row to lock down the map, 16-10.

SIXER put in a great display, but it was not enough

It all came down to Nuke, where Liquid jumped out to a 5-0 lead on the CT side. After calling a timeout, EnVyUs almost secured their first round of the map, but Josh "jdm64" Marzano clutched a 1v2 situation, leaving the Frenchmen frustrated.

Liquid continued shutting EnVyUs down, with the scoreline blooming to a 12-0 advantage for the North Americans. It was only then that EnVyUs finally managed to get a round, courtesy of a 1v2 clutch from SIXER, but they were unable to follow it up, with Liquid ending the half with a dream 14-1 lead.

EnVyUs found a lifeline by taking the pistol round as CT thanks to three quick headshots from Alexandre "xms" Forté in the lower bombsite. The following anti-eco also went their way, but once Liquid got money in the bank it was all over for the Europeans.

Nothing went wrong. They actually played better than expected and have played really well lately. They just don't have a deep enough playbook. They will get better as time goes on as long as they stay with what they have. Hey, they beat C9 and G2 the superteam got crushed by them. It's a win win situation.

Sorry bud but Elige is far from the top NA player. While he is good in Liquid in the position he plays, it wasn't always that way. A great team would be him, stewie, auti, twistz and mixwell with autimatic calling. And before anyone says autimatic doesn't IGL, he does now and has been for the last month or two with C9.

I think a better lineup would be: Elige Nitr0 Stanislaw Twistzz Jdm Easy to tell you're a C9 fan because of how you defended auti being igl over someone like stanislaw. Who do you think is the top NA player if it is not Elige? My guess is you answer stewie.

A motivated Stewie2k is better than Elige, he can do what Elige can do + more. IGL (a mid level, if have to --- not saying IGL, just showing he has some brains of his own), Entry, Rifle (along with Pistol/SMG), Lurk, Awp, Scout with ease.

my theory why everyone thinks stewie2k is a better player than elige is coz he's a highlight player, elige on the other hand doenst have the highlights but is always dropping 30 against euros

Elige is better currently no doubt, Team Liquid seems motivated and fixed with Stanislaw and new teammates. Stewie2k obv sees Cloud 9 teammates doesn't give a shit so why would he? If I could I would put Stewie2k on TL and take off either JDM (to get a complete awper when the awp isn't available he turns to bot) or replace Stewie with nitr0 (but nitr0's motivation is coming back) and nitr0 has high potential himself. I dont know... I still put Stewie2k > Elige for the fact he can do more. but right now Elige is a better player (better stats)
2017-06-03 07:44
0
It's true though, stewie is a better player. I'm not a c9 fan, but stewie is really good. Best NA awp even, though he's to good with rifles to not rifle and his team already has an awper. And the only one to challange him over the top 1 awping spot is mixwell. If you don't agree you probably just looks at history which tells SKA and JDM are the number 1 and 2 awpers, this isn't the case anymore. Stewie makes the plays when his team needs it the most, never chokes and pretty much always has a good game. Elige is great, top 3 NA for sure, it's just that noone is better than stewie currently is, in north america. Don't know why it's even a discussion? Anyone with some kind of knowledge about the scene would agree that stewie is currently the number 1 in NA, no question. Anyway Stan would be the IGL in a NA ''superteam'', free up autimatic and let him roll, make stewie and mixwell switch up the awping and put twistzz in there as the entry fragger or second entry. As support I'd say NAF or someone like that could take the spot. NAF wouldn't even have to be a dedicated support player, just not be the starplayer and he would set up the team to succed, which he has shown he can do. He can also frag like a beast so that's no problem either. RUSH also has a place in this team but then you'd have to replace twistzz. so that's a tough one to call. That double awp and with the firepower + stanislaw would just be too much for any NA team to handle and could potentially do extremely well internationally. Greetings from Sweden.

nah, now sk will beat Liquid in THEIR home turf. C9 often matches up well vs SK, but Liquid just hasn't got the mindset to play SK. The biggest choke in CSGO history, a major final win, something like 17 straight map wins over them last year (as a matter of fact I don't remember LG dropping a map to liquid on LAN ever since that tournament with the hiko incident) that being said, i'm glad to see jdm is improving, maybe Liquid can win a map like Train if they start as CT (which I doubt would happen)

lol beats 2 shitty NA teams and a fluke win over north who doesn't care about the game since they have nothing to play for, and the weakest opponent in the quarters in envyus and goes to semi finals. what a joke of a tournament and a joke NA team getting by on luck...

Envy getting to the semis would have equally qualifyed as a joke. It can never be considered as a t1 tournament to begin with with no astralis and faze

Envy actually had to beat a few good teams to get to the playoffs,in comparison to liquid

the fact that liquid beat them convincingly in a bo3 is encouraging though

+1, cobble was the only fluke here, Envy shouldn't have got more than 12 rounds there xd

Its because he awps, hes almost never is the first one to push onto the site, if all 4 of his teammates die and its like a 1v 3+ , then he usually saves.

Macau Never get tired
ESL rules are the biggest joke in the world. We can't see Astralis and FaZe there only because of some stupid shit made up by retarded brains among rule creators, instead we're forced to watch pathetic teams like nV (bo1 heroes), NRG (because NA should be equal to EU no matter what, right?), and shitton of other weak pieces of shit. The whole tournament can be described in 2 sentences: 1) Many bo1 fails that decided who should go to playoffs. 2) SK rape everyone in bo3 again on their way to ez victory. ESL, KYS.
