Misfits bench ShahZaM ahead of Minor

Misfits have announced that they have decided to bench Shahzeb "ShahZaM" Khan with immediate effect.

On Twitter, Misfits justified the move with Shahzeb "⁠ShahZaM⁠" Khan's "inability to commit to coming to the gaming house" for a bootcamp ahead of the Americas Minor, which will start on June 8.

The North American organisation added that "it is in the best interest to have someone present" to make the bootcamp as productive as possible as they will battle to secure a spot at the offline qualifier for PGL Major Krakow.

ShahZaM benched by Misfits

ShahZaM has been part of the North American team since December, when they still represented TSM. Since joining Misfits' ranks, the team's most notable achievement is a semi-final run at DreamHack Open Tours, where ShahZaM had a team-leading tournament rating of 1.17.

Misfits are yet to announce who their fifth player at the Minor will be. Skyler "⁠Relyks⁠" Weaver, the team's backup player, had already been announced as a replacement for Sean "⁠seang@res⁠" Gares, who will be getting married on that same weekend as the event.

The North American team have the following quartet available for the Minor:

Its his job. It's not even for a extended time. It's for a bootcamp. If he doesnt WANT to bootcamp I.E. prac a lot better with your team, that means you're messing with you're team's abilities.

It's 100x easier to practise with your team when they're actually physically there. You can monitor their commitment to the game, how much they play etc. Explaining strats is 100x easier and you get more done in 1 day. If Shahzam doesnt come it's just a huge stab in the back for the rest of his teammates that do commit to the Gaminghouse to get better.

Gaminghouses are amazing for teampraccing, not gonna go into it, but that's just a fact. See you're still of the mentality "eSports is not a real sport" or smth. "seangares is playing a video game". Seangares is leaving his wife at home TO DO HIS JOB. Sailors leave their wives at home to DO. THEIR. JOB. It's what gets bread on the table. Shahzam is being a hassle for disturbing the potential for great to amazing team practise. And it's not even potential, a gaminghouse will improve the quality of practise. Just for one second consider CSGO / eSports as a real job, and then think again REAL HARD about how Shahzam isn't being a hassle. He is in every sense.

Not every team uses a gamehouse. Gamehouses are not ESSENTIAL for praccing. He is not disturbing anything, he doesn't want to leave his own home to play, he isn't losing his job as he has made money in other ways on CS. Shahzam is not forced to move, he can find another team/stream. A gamehouse will indeed improve the quality of their practice, however it is not essential. He wants to practice with his teammates, but wants to be comfortable. Would you prefer he plays somewhere he doesn't feel comfortable, then rather than being a hassle is just a nuisance to the team skill wise?

The practice is for LAN not an online tournament. You are not going to have the same comfort as you have at your house as you do at a LAN. So you might as we'll get used to playing with your teammates in an uncomfortable setting so that you are ready for it at the major. You want to practice how you're going to play which is with all 5 members in the same place.

he has played in a lan environment longer than half his team, if anyone needs to get comfortable its the new players. However, bootcamping is what most teams use for playing at Lan, as it actually shows them an unfamiliar environment. Maybe he doesn't want to live with his teammates? Is a decent reason, he can play with them and bootcamp with them when needed but you can't force him to live with teammates. he has a valid reason for doing what he did, and in reality this is more than likely a cover up.

No they all should and need to get used to playing TOGETHER in an uncomfortable setting. It doesn't matter if hes more experienced than his teammates on LAN. It's a team game and they need everyone to do what's best for the team. If the other 4 feel that It's best to live in a gaming house together and improve that way then how weird would it be to have him in a different place in the country, potentially on a different schedule than them not fully committing. Also you don't know that this wasn't in his contract with the organization. So yes if it was you CAN in fact force him to live with teammates and if he declines living in a house with them then obviously he's going to get immediately removed.

Weddings are not just something that pop up. It was probably planned way before they knew this date was going to be the minor. Meaning Gares probably mentioned it a long time ago and got everything in order with the org beforehand. So, either Shahzam didn't do the same, and went "I'm getting married in two weeks, by the way, so I can't bootcamp with you." Which still makes him the dumbfuck, not the org or the team. Or he did tell them before, just like Gares did, and the org just now decided that he can't go (otherwise, these news would be old.) What do you think is more plausible?

That's exactly what I am doing. Nothing more, nothing less. I refuse to think that the org gave sgares special treatment. So that leaves the option that shah didn't handle his absence like sgares did. That's the only assumption I'm making, and I think it's a fair one to make. Because the "evidence" we have, is literally "inability to commit to coming to the gaming house." In sgares case, it's not inability, it's planned by both parties way in advance. It's like saying that because you're on a vacation in Spain, the company fires you for your inability to be at work.

But this goes quite a bit further than "doesn't try as hard". This is just wrecking the practise. First of all, imagine practising with 4 people at a gaming house, and having your 5th somewhere else coming to the PC at whatever time he wants. Even if he is your star player, you can't just give him THAT much more priority over the other players. Morally wrong, but again, it's spoiling practise as well.

How do you know he's not there? It makes no sense, he should be benched then too. I HIGHLY doubt he isnt going to be at the bootcamp. Like that would be just stupid. Wherever you got this information from, Im 90% sure it isnt true. It doesnt matter which teammember isnt there. If Sean isnt there, the bootcamp wouldnt be as usefull, but also if any other player from the team isnt there it wouldnt be as useful.
