ESL One Cologne 2017mousesports beat fnatic; FaZe survive Heroic scare
mousesports and FaZe have won their first matches at ESL One Cologne after defeating fnatic and Heroic, respectively.
The first big match of ESL One Cologne pitted fnatic against mousesports, respectively the No.7 and the No.12 teams in the world heading into the event. The Swedish giants got off to a flying start, cruising to a 6-0 lead as mousesports struggled to find a way past the impressive CTs.
Chris "chrisJ" de Jong then handed mousesports their first round of the game with a 1v2 clutch, with the European mixture following that up with another round. Jesper "JW" Wecksell pulled off a quad kill in a force-buy round to give fnatic their seventh round of the game, but the Swedish team could not build on that as mousesports rallied back with two clutches in a row from Tomáš "oskar" Šťastný. mousesports continued pressing on and eventually restored parity at 7-7 before fnatic picked up the final round of the half.
Now playing on the Terrorist side, fnatic further added to their lead with a successful A execution in the pistol round. After losing both eco rounds as well, mousesports won two gun rounds in a row following triple kills from Denis "denis" Howell and Robin "ropz" Kool.
mousesports did not let a lengthy pause due to technical issues get to them and remained in the driving seat. Despite calling a timeout, the Swedes simply could not find a way through the CT's tight defence, with mousesports locking down the map in convincing fashion.

Meanwhile, FaZe and Heroic faced off in a nail-biting match that went to all 30 rounds. The Danish team drew first blood thanks to a triple kill from Patrick "es3tag" Hansen in the pistol round, but FaZe rallied back in the next round and jumped out to a 10-3 lead as they kept their opponents from stringing rounds together.
After taking the final two rounds of the first half, Heroic went on a massive run on the Terrorist side. FaZe's rounds were few and far between, which constantly left them strapped for cash. Heroic eventually brought the scoreline to a 14-14 stalemate, but FaZe tightened up their defence in the dying stages and won the map in the 30th round.
