Cloud9 beat NiP, 2-1, to semis

Cloud9 beat NiP, 16-10 on Train, 11-16 on Cache, and 16-6 on Cobblestone, to make It to the semifinals in Cologne.

Ninjas in Pyjamas started out defending on Train, and a quad kill round by Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg stopped Cloud9 on their tracks as they tried to execute on the A site to give the Swedes the first round. After winning both anti-ecos, Ninjas in Pyjamas were unable to take the first gun round.

After losing a second round, Ninjas in Pyjamas were then able to win a pistol round as William "draken" Sundin got a double entry with the p250 and Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund got a double with a saved AK-47 to stay in the lead, 4-2. It was finally the Ninjas who were able to take control of the half, giving up just three scattered rounds for a 10-5 partial.

The second half started with Cloud9 winning their CT side pistol round, and following it up with two anti-ecos and a gun round sandwiched in between, to shorten the distance to 9-10. Cloud9 quickly took the lead as all of the North American players on the server stepped up their game, shutting Ninjas in Pyjamas down to take a 12-10 lead and make the Swedes take a timeout.

Up 13-10, Mike "shroud" Grzesiek got an incredible after plant triple to clutch out the round and decimate the Swedes’ morale. Following it up by stopping a B rush by Ninjas in Pyjamas, Cloud9 got on map point and eventually closed it out, 16-10.

n0thing and co. got to a flying start winning Train

Once again, Ninjas in Pyjamas were able to win the pistol round, but this time on the attacking side on Cache. This time around, though, Cloud9 won the second round with two big entries by Jake "Stewie2K" Yip, who got a double entry with Desert Eagle headshots and closed the round out with a kill with the AK-47.

The match quickly evened out, as both teams got four rounds on the board, but Ninjas in Pyjamas were able to decompose Cloud9’s defenses and once again run away with a 10-5 partial, a mirror image of the first map. A quad kill by Timothy "autimatic" Ta on the A site gave his team the first round of the second half. Cloud9 then won the anti-ecos and the first gun round, planting on B after entrying and making the Ninjas in Pyjamas players call to save their weapons for the following round.

The save payed off, though, as Ninjas in Pyjamas shut Cloud9 down on the second gun round to stop the North American side from gaining the momentum that let them come back on Train. Down 9-13, Cloud9 were finally able to get into double digits planting on a 4vs2 and prompting Ninjas in Pyjamas to save, 13-10.

A double kill from f0rest in the next round and a strong defense on B by GeT_RiGhT and Richard "Xizt" Landström on the rotation stopped Cloud9 on their tracks, and GeT_RiGhT pulled a vintage spray with the AK from vents in the following round, taking out three players in B halls, to get his team to match point. Although the North American side were able to get one more round, they were unable to get past Ninjas in Pyjamas’s wall, as the Swedes took it to the third map, winning Cache, 16-11.

NiP were unable to bring it back on the decider, Cobblestone

The third map, Cobblestone, started with Cloud9 winning the pistol round, despite a quad kill by draken, who despite eliminating all opposition was too late to defuse the bomb. After losing an eco, Ninjas in Pyjamas were able to get on the board winning the second one, with two Desert Eagle kills by f0rest and two USP-S kills by draken.

Ninjas in Pyjamas were unable to follow it up, though, as Cloud9 were able to make it onto the B site and plant on a force buy, putting Ninjas in Pyjamas back in economic troubles. The match quickly became a brawl, as Ninjas in Pyjamas’s f0rest and Xizt retook a 2vs3 after plant on the A site, but then lost the following round against a B execute from the North Americans.

The match quickly got lopsided, though, as both teams started making mistakes and playing some sloppy Counter-Strike, but it was Cloud9 who profited from this chaos, taking the half 10-5.

A triple by autimatic from Danger put Ninjas in Pyjamas against the corner, further increasing the North American team’s lead. Ninjas in Pyjamas won the first gun round, to bring it to 13-6, but Cloud9 immediately reacted and reset Ninjas in Pyjamas, going on to win 16-6 and clinch a spot in the playoffs.

NiP is still garbage. They can literally only play cache. Fifflaren has gone. Friberg has too. Now it's time for Xizt to say goodbye because he's finished. Terrible IGL and individually he's hardly a T2 player.

Lmao first event for Rez and they made it into 1/8 final so what do you expect from a team with a new player? Winning the tournament? I aren't think that, 1/8 final is a good result for nip.

SK core was way better than NiP's actual 4 players. I think NiP surpassed any kind of expectative, and in the end, they will be in the winners side of the HLTV.org article "Winners and Losers of ESL One Cologne".

NiP hasn't rebuilt from scratch either. They still have 3/5 core players and Draken has been with the team long enough to be considered "integrated". NiP should be proud of what they accomplished here and try to build off of it, but by no means should C9 feel like they beat a favourite for the title. The teams are about on equal level.

Play-style wise they have. NiP have rebuilt their game numerous times in a desperate effort to avoid changing players. SK have really only done that once - when felps joined.

they changed one of the core 3 (Xizt doesn't even count) also 2 of them are youngsters, got scared shitless in the arena not the same performance they had at group stage, not like they turned for a support player which may be irrelevant to change tacs and map approach, draken still new and had exactly 21 days bootcamping the new lineup your arguments can only come from such a retard as a non flagger, counting cs_summit jeez... fucked u up in the ass

You say you fucked me, but your argument is shit. 1. Xizt is the core player. He's their Igl and has been on the team since the beginning of the roster. How is he not a core player? 2. They removed friberg, an entryfrgger, and replaced him with another entry/aggressive player, meaning their strategies are not affected as only support and awp players usually use their utility in executes. 3. The only young person is REZ. Draken is 21, same age as autimatic, so the excuse that he panicked is dumb. I agree with the assumption that REZ'S nerves got to him, though. Regardless, Stewie is just as young as he is and didn't let his nerves get to him. 4. Draken is not new. Hasn't he been on the team for multiple months? I don't care enough to fact check, but you're just pulling assumptions out of your ass. 5. What's wrong with mentioning cs_summit? That's their most recent event except for Cologne, which is why I mentioned it.
2017-07-07 17:15

When they added Rez they came out in interview and said that they will change their whole map pool, change positions for players on all maps and change strats and defaults for maps aswell so ther 3-4 week with Rez is not even close to enough time to pracise.

Where was REZ even? Where was his individual skills? Nip focuses more on strats but this game vs c9 was all about individual skills. You need to hit your shots to call your strats next round. Otherwise they will overrun you.

NiP can comeback, they have two unexperienced players. Also REZ needs to adjust to the team and get experienced against T1 teams and tournaments. If draken and REZ perform well and help GTR and forest, that team can get top3

They won 1 map at this tournament and you call that a success?? That map will be perma banned against them now. So their back to t3/4 with no map. But it's good to see you fans are hopeful

How can people that follow cs have given NiP even a Chance of going past C9.. They have been terrible for 2 years now and you think a change will make them even a t2 team?

2 years? crawl under the rock you came from. they shared the nr1 spot with SK, winning 3x 250k+ events in 2016. (not the nr1 ranking spot, but the nr1 spot for winning most events)

Pathetic comments in here. NIP did far from terrible imo. Will be interesting to see what they can come up with. Also, draken stop forcing as the only guy in the team when ur the damn awper ffs

Skadaddy was in a great form at Cologne, dudes. Auti, Stew with Skadoodle playing like this makes the team a candidate to grand finals. NaVi x C9 probably very close, like 2-1 for any of the teams.

NiP won cache with so many lucky rounds, one bullet double kill awp, 1v1, people ending rounds with less than 10hp all time, that was disgusting to watch. But luck doesnt last forever they got smashed on third map

if you call this luck, what about shroud in train? 2 clutches 3vs1, what about the 0.0008 defuse? every team can get some luck sometimes

Could be NiP more unlucky? There was so many fights where they aimed on the middle of the head and still missed. Also that round with 0.008 defuse time. At the end NiP played bad but i thing that if they woud be little more lucky they woud win. Still everyone in NiP had his moment. REZ didnt show that good but you cannot blame him for that. Its his first turnament in NiP and in past 3 matches he did great. Im happy that GeT_RiGhT woke up. GG looking foreward for next opportunity to show that Legends can win tournaments again. #GONINJAS

Cloud9's new slower paced style seems to be working a lot better for them. Impressive! Nt nip, you'll get there soon enough.

Well seems like nip got to quaters only cause they could only win cache 4 times, so the team that could play other maps deserved it.
