Chiefs win WCA 2017 APAC qualifier

The Australian side Chiefs won the WCA 2017 Asia-Pacific Closed Qualifier, earning $22,000 and securing a spot at the final tournament.

The WCA 2017 online closed qualifier for the Asia-Pacific region kicked off on July 24th, with a nine-team round-robin BO1 group stage. After all the matches were played, the four best teams advanced to the playoffs: The MongolZ, Signature, BOOT-d[S] and Chiefs, with the Australian side placing first with a 5-1 record.

After winning the AOC CGPL Finals, tucks' side finished first in the WCA APAC qualifier

The double-elimination playoffs draw matched up Chiefs with The MongolZ and Signature with BOOT-d[S]. The first game ended up being a tight one, but Chiefs managed to close out the series 2-1 despite dropping Train, a map they had a good streak on, to the Mongolian side. BOOT-d[S] dealt with Signature comfortably, securing a spot in the upper bracket game against the Australian side.

In the match that secured a spot at the WCA 2017 global finals, Chiefs were the ones that picked up a 2-1 win, with Liam "malta" Schembri standing out over the course of the series. The two teams then rematched in the grand final, but this time it was a cleaner win for Tyler "tucks" Reilly and co., who closed out the series with a 16-5 on Mirage and a 16-14 on Train.

Renegades is still better then Chiefs, I mean Chiefs would be better than teams like Complexity but they wouldn't compete with teams like C9 Liquid Renegades SK or Immortals in pro league

They never beat Tyloo so why should they be given a chance in NA? I never ever hear anyone saying Tyloo should be given a chance in NA when tyloo can speak english well enough

I'd say d[S]were throwing because they didn't want to play after qualifying but that 16-14 makes me think otherwise

Won't happen, Jks already declined offers from Cloud9 so I doubt he would go to Optic, Optic most likely will get FNS and Allu

Wasn't the C9 offer in the VOX days though when the Aussies stuck together. Isn't JKS and Nifty actually going to optic or was that just a rumor?

Nah they were Renegades, It was when Seangares left so it was start of 2016 I think, It's just rumours and Jks and Nifty will probably decline since Renegades have been looking good lately they just need Nexa to step it up and they will be easily top 3 NA

Mongolz had the series vs BOOT, they just couldn't close it out. Either way, it's nice to see my home country boys doing better compared to the rest of the year.
