AMD to pull out of esports

With the world in a deep recession, a financial crisis still in effect, massive layoffs at most big companies, and red numbers on the bottomlines at most companies focused on high tech consumer products esports is bound to have a rough year in 2009.

Today the German website spiegel.de reports that AMD will be withdrawing all their major esports sponsorships, this includes SK-Gaming and the World Cyber Games. AMD dropped their sponsorship of mTw earlier this year, and now look to be completely getting out of esports.

SK manager Alexander Müller told spiegel that SK knew for a long time and are looking for new partners. Hopefully this means SK will not have to undertake drastic team cuts like we saw MYM do earlier this year with their WC3 and Starcraft teams.

Also Intel has hinted that they might be changing their commitment to esports, saying they will re-asses their situation after CeBIT, this could hurt Turtle Entertainment, the company behind ESL, who has Intel as their main sponsor. Turtle say they will clarify exactly what is going on soon.

U see the logic? They have no money to put into esports -> U don't give them money -> they won't be able to put money into esports much longer.

So they borrow money, put them in esports, and get the money back with a premium.. That is how advertising works you know.. :)

Yeah yeah, the question was not about that =) The idea of Sillen just doesn't follow logic =) If he wants AMD to stay in the cybersports, he needs to support them.

i dont care about what you think....i think they are cheap bastards...they can afford to sponsor eSports but just dont think it is smart...so im not gonna buy anything from them...if they get back to eSport i will buy.... i just want them to realize how important it is to sponsor eSport for them selfs and for eSports..

OK so if I have a different opinion I'm automatically stupid? U'r just weird. They get millions from gamers even if there won't be their logo on the wall at events or their company name in the nicks of players. They are so big, they've got almost a monopoly with Intel. They'll get the money anyways.

its easy show how many earned intel in the last year. intel overrolled amd. its the same in the automobil industry some companies have really big problems(bilions) the others only small(few milions). and intel is one of them that haven't really big problems with their system. see the computer Industry is still grow up.

They have a lot of capital, but if they are doing minus for every chapter what's the point to keep spending so much? That's the logic they follow.

1million to sponsor it is not much for them look how many they earn last year and you will see what much is :-) and its not spending: they pushing the gaming szene and why? many gamers spend much money on their PC(CPUs from intel) to be famous. it could be a huge chance for intel to get their respect from real gamers. AMD is broke and dying in the stock market. but we will see :-)

I see your point, I just mean those fancy bosses won't understand that, they just think where to cut some money off. The idea of a business is to make money. If the idea is lost, they will find a way to succeed again.
