Cloud9 replace OpTic at DreamHack Masters Malmö

OpTic Gaming's spot at DreamHack Masters Malmö will be taken by Cloud9, the event's organisers have revealed.

The last-minute change comes as a result of the recent changes undergone by OpTic, who signed European trio Adam "⁠friberg⁠" Friberg, Aleksi "⁠allu⁠" Jalli and Emil "⁠Magisk⁠" Reif, with a fifth player expected to be revealed soon.

In a statement, DreamHack explained that OpTic can no longer field the core of the lineup that was invited, which means they are no longer eligible to compete in the tournament.

This will be the first event for Cloud9 since recruiting Tarik "⁠tarik⁠" Celik and William "⁠RUSH⁠" Wierzba from OpTic as replacements for longtime duo Mike "⁠shroud⁠" Grzesiek and Jordan "⁠n0thing⁠" Gilbert.

Cloud9 will replace OpTic in Malmö

DreamHack Masters Malmö will run from August 30 to September 3 at Malmö Arena, with 16 teams duking it out for their share of the $250,000 prize pool.

If they are able to invite a different team at this moment, they should be able to confirm the invite of Optic with new lineup. It is ridiculous to invite C9 over Optic's new roster.

Does your brain not comprehend that if you change 3 or more players your disqualified... Its a rule and the event host is just upholding tournament rules. Similar thing happened to sk @ eleague because they changed orgs. Its optics own fault for changing so many players, they knew the rules and its cost them malmo and eleague spot.

And C9 could have changed five players day before they got this late invitation. It is not sensible. And the rules dont say that the same organisation could not get two separate invites with two different rosters. According to rules they could have canceled the Optic's first invite and then invite them again. Sure that would be stupid but it is more stupid to invite worse team which is happening now. The rule is there to ensure that there would be no crashed teams with poor rosters.

Liquid wouldve had 3 250k+ events in the span of 10 days if they had accepted. Im guessing also because their e league group is close as well. Over saturation is probable cause.

real reason is money... optic new lineup is not from USA, and optic was the only US team in the event. No US team in the event is equal to less north american viewers, less interest (and money) from advertisers. Cloud9 fills this gap.

i have watched him but Stewie is still better, im not fan of C9 and also not a hater of mixwell(he is a decent player) but obviously new int. squad of Optic is tier3 maximum, while C9 can beat tier1 teams and optic will never manage it to even tier2 level with this line-up.
