OpTic disqualified from ELEAGUE Premier

OpTic Gaming have been disqualified from ELEAGUE Premier as a result of their recent roster changes, the tournament's organisers have revealed.

According to Turner Sports, OpTic's changes are "inconsistent with ELEAGUE’s rules", which state that, "if more than two players on a team's roster change, such team will be removed from the tournament immediately."

OpTic are keeping only Oscar "mixwell" Cañellas and Keith "NAF" Markovic from their previous team. On Monday, it was confirmed that the Spanish player will be joined by Aleksi "allu" Jalli, Adam "friberg" Friberg and Emil "Magisk" Reif in the starting line-up, with the fifth player, presumably Kevin "HS" Tarn, expected to be revealed soon.

mixwell and NAF the only players left of the team that won ELEAGUE S2

Replacing the ELEAGUE Season 2 champions will be a third team coming out of the Americas Open Qualifier, which will be held from August 26-27.

The news comes as yet another blow for OpTic after the team learned that it would be replaced by Cloud9 at DreamHack Masters Malmö, also because of the recent roster changes.

This is as retarded rule as it can be. SPOT belongs to ORGANIZATION, not players. So if barca releases 10 of their players, team will be forced to play 3rd spanish league all of the sudden? Whoever came with this bullshit is idiot, period. It makes only a tiny bit of sense because of shuffles between 2 teams, but even then.

I assume it is as it is because the for Eleague invites were based on results in the previous Eleague tournament (Eleague S2 I believe). Now that Optic only have 2 players from that roster (One as a substitute) it isn't the same team that won the previous season and therefore shouldn't be automatically invited.
2017-08-23 12:34

A spot shouldn't belong to an organization. It should belong to the players at least the majority of the players. They put in the hard work and effort to make it to and through the tournament not the organization that can just change its roster at any given moment. What happened when the current SK left Luminosity and joined SK I think is crap and that should at least be changed. But as far as the "Spot" belongs to "Organization" and not the people who are actually doing work is complete BS and should never apply anywhere. Look at the majors. If a team doesn't have at least 3 of the members that made it to legends (or if for some reason 3 players are dropped right before the major and they are in challengers) the spot is lost and the team is replaced. In the sense of eLeague major with Fnatic and GODSENT. GODSENT had a legends spot for a short time prior because KrimZ, JW, and Flusha (who all were on Fnatic in DH Cluj and got Legends) went to Godsent. Krimz goes back and fnatic regained their spot as Legends since they had 3 from the prior major (Krimz, Olof, Dennis). The reason why this is the way it is, is so it's completely fair to the players, the people that actually matter in tournaments. You don't want an org to get a position or have a position from the prior tournament (OpTic) and then they suddenly gain a team that is arguably better than their prior team (OpTic) for either malice intent (Wanting to win so they hire a better crew) or for reasons of everyone split up (Optic's case)

It was exactly the opposite, SK could not participate because of the spot belonging to LG, now the spot belong to optic but they cant play because the roster change. Stupid ELEAGUE.

No, you are stupid. If one team qualified for a major, and then they bought in 5 new players to actually play the major there would be fucking uproar. Stop being so autistic, it's completely valid in this case to disqualify optic, if you think otherwise you are, by definition a fucking idiot.

Probably changed the rules so that theyre in line with the other tournament rules. Because otherwise teams would change the fuck out of their rosters
2017-08-22 23:23
0
It's the same rule, just a different situation. In that situation, the 5 players changed orgs and so neither org was allowed to participate because their submitted rosters changed more than two players (all 5 players) after the cutoff date. The same thing here: more than two players changed after the cutoff for roster submissions, so the roster is ineligible for the tournament.

In that sense that the players don't own the spot either, as SK was disqualified last time. So basically it has to be the same org with the same 3/5 players, or you are out. Which is stupid. At least in major, the players keep the spot.
