Gambit send FaZe packing in Malmö

Gambit came from behind to beat FaZe 2-1 and book their spot in the DreamHack Masters Malmö quarter-finals.

Mirage kicked off the series with Gambit on the Counter-Terrorist side. The Kazakh team secured the first two rounds of the half but then fell short against a third-round buy from FaZe, with Nikola "⁠NiKo⁠" Kovač getting three kills to his name in an A push.

FaZe kept on pushing and eventually took the lead at 4-3, but the rest of the half was all about Gambit's near-impenetrable defense. Dauren "⁠AdreN⁠" Kystaubayev team remained compact until the end of the half, taking a 9-6 lead into the break.

Now playing on the Counter-Terrorist side, FaZe came out strongly from the break and quickly took the lead. Gambit then had a great chance to restore parity at 11-11 but spurned a 5v2 situation as Ladislav "⁠GuardiaN⁠" Kovács and Finn "⁠karrigan⁠" Andersen cleaned up the B site. The European mixture remained in the driving seat and only lost one more round before locking down the map, 16-11.

Gambit passed a tough test against FaZe

The first half of Train, map two, was a complete blowout, with Gambit cruising to a 12-3 lead as FaZe struggled to break through the Kazakh team's defense. AdreN then piled more misery on FaZe with a quad kill, but the European mixture proved that there was still some fight in them and hit back on a force-buy.

Things were looking up for FaZe, who brought the scoreline to 6-13, but then they made a massive blunder and were caught off-guard by Gambit's ivy push on a force-buy, with Rustem "⁠mou⁠" Telepov getting three quick kills. Abay "⁠HObbit⁠" Khassenov turned hero in the next round as he picked up three kills in a 2v4 situation to put Gambit on map point. A last-gasp effort from FaZe still earned them two rounds, but the Kazakh team eventually got their 16th round to take the match to Nuke.

The first half of Nuke was played at a frantic pace, with rounds going back and forth as neither side seemed able to stamp their authority on the game. That is, however, until the final stages of the half, when Gambit won five rounds in a row to take a 9-6 half-time lead.

FaZe's first event did not go according to plan

FaZe came out of the break much livelier, winning seven of the first eight rounds to take a 13-10 lead. It looked like the European mixture had the game under control, but Gambit brought the CT's streak to an end in an eco round after finding three quick kills with CZ-75s. That proved to be the turning point of the game as the Kazakh team continued to win rounds, breaking FaZe's economy right until the very end.

Ummm.. FaZe changed their setup so that the have to try to compensate for no set system yet, they've trained together what 4 maps against VP and some small shit on top? Obviously, they're a bunch of experienced players but they're different natives and need to figure out roles properly on top of training tactics and honing teamplay. Albeit Gambit has lost an IGL it's still so that they've got a set way of playing and then they're just incorporating a harder fragging guy who clearly is good at adjusting (fitch) to this system. That's just one guy, where 4 know what's happening and can compensate and pick the easier roles for fitch where needed. It's the same kind of scenario as like NiKo was the sole player joining to FaZe (his personal skill for adjusting also made it easier for the team to take him in and instantly getting it to work).

do bad at major* it's the biggest and most important event, ofcourse if they fail that all the other shit doesn't matter much, not to mention they only were 2nd place for 4 events. it's like you getting a's on all the regular tests and failing the final worth 60% of your grade, if you fail the final your final grade is usually a D or F or at best a C no matter how well you do on other tests unless your uni is just easy asf and/or not a high tier uni.

That's the thing about cs:go vs dota 2 for exampel. Even if the did really bad, it's not all there is to say. In dota the international fills so much that no ther event means that much. Sk got out in the quarters, but are still the best team by quite a bit. In my opinion you can still consider it ONE event, atleast in faze's case

it doesn't matter if it the biggest tournament or not at the end it is still a tournament like the DH Masters or ELEAGUE's seasons. 1 Major is not more important than 2 or 3 big tournaments.
