Liquid defeat Astralis; to ESL One NY semi-finals

Liquid have progressed to the semi-finals at ESL One New York after defeating Astralis 2-1.

The best-of-three Group B decider match between Astralis and Liquid started on Inferno where the Danish team started on the T-side. Nicolai "device" Reedtz & company won the pistol round without losing any players but Liquid responded in the second round with Josh "jdm64" Marzano's triple kill.

The North Americans made it 7-2 after coming up top in the early stages of the half but Astralis went on a six round streak to lead 8-7 at halftime. Liquid picked up the second half pistol round but couldn't win against Astralis' force buy in the following round as the Danish squad led 9-8.

Despite having a 13-9 lead, Astralis crumbled, losing six rounds in a row which gave Liquid two map points. Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski's team converted the second map point into the victory to take the lead in the series (16-14).

Liquid beat Astralis in a three-map series

Astralis got the first four rounds on the CT-side on Cache but lost the fifth round. However, they responded and made it 5-1 in their favor. Liquid were unfazed and won eight of the last nine rounds of the first half to take a 9-6 lead.

After winning the first three rounds of the second half, Astralis lost the first weapon round as Liquid led 10-9. The rest of the half was a very close affair, with Liquid wasting two match points as they allowed Astralis to take the map to overtime, in which the Danes would come out victorious.

Astralis fall in the group stage

It all came down to Mirage, which saw Liquid get out to a 4-0 lead on the Terrorist side. Powered by Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen, Astralis went on a massive run, taking eight rounds in a row as they kept their defense very tight. Liquid would still react before the end of the half, winning two more rounds to keep their hopes alive.

Now on the CT side, Liquid won the pistol round and the following anti-eco. A third-round buy from Astralis failed to bear fruits, leaving them with no money in the bank and giving Liquid the lead for the first time since the early stages of the first half.

Astralis tried to find a way back into the game, but they struggled to break through the North Americans' defense. The rounds won by the Danes were few and far between, which propelled Liquid into a 15-11 lead. After calling a tactical pause, Astralis found a lifeline with an all-out B push, but Liquid fought back immediately to send the Europeans home empty-handed.

In hindsight, that ESG win seems like a fluke. SK didn't seem like the SK they usually were. My excitement blinded me from that. This is the REAL test for Liquid

Liquid is a good team in terms of aim. Elige and twist are insane aimers, JDM is a good awper, only nitro is kinda slow but it's ok he does good entry fragging But they were missing a good IGL. Let's be honest Hilo wasn't a good IGL. He was a streamer more than anything... When liquid got Stan I was very happy for them because Stan is probably the best NA IGL. He carried OpTic to win Eleague season 2 against astralis. Oh and there is zews, a excellent coach, SK won 2 majors with his help Tldr: liquid have all the right pieces. They have a good future in top10

I who have been watching them since they had daps and NAF know this better than anyone. Don't get how this ties into my point of SK having an off day at Mykonos. I thought the team could make top 5 for the longest time after Stan joined. The results at the time went against it though. Tier 1 quid is starting to show up now

Just pointing it out that even if they love to SK it doesn't mean it was a fluke they are a great team regardless.

Why not? Who else do you recommend? Another fragger? We see how that worked out. FNS isn't seeing much success. daps is even worse. RUSH wasn't seeing much success either. tarik too. They still signed them. I think a guy with a brain deserves a spot on the team for once. They tried Slemmy and it didn't last long, and it's sad that once that didn't work, they just quit going after IGLs and went back to looking for killers.

It was something about how stan plays lurk role and he said it was hard for him to call while he plays that role. To me he was getting frustrated by his stats so he wanted to see if anyone else wanted to try IGL and Nitr0 stepped up. Didn't really help considering -30 k/d and he wasn't even igl'ing lol
