DESPE ban lifted by ESL

Çağatay "DESPE" Sedef made headlines last week after ESL handed him a two-year ban for cheating. Now, ESL has reverted the ban.

Alarm bells rang when Çağatay "⁠DESPE⁠" Sedef's ESL profile lit up with a two-year cheating ban, but ESL has now revealed that the ban was unwarranted and the Space Soldiers substitute's name has been cleared.

DESPE's account was cleared after a review showed his ban was a mistake

From the beginning, Space Soldiers called it a false accusation and said they would be in touch with ESL to figure out what had caused Turkish player's profile to receive the ban. Now, ESL's Jonas "⁠bsl⁠" Alsaker Vikan has made the following statement about the ban and the tournament organizer's decision to lift it:

"Recently, a Turkish player, DESPE, from team Space Soldiers was given an ESL ban after suspicion of cheating. The ban occurred due to an erroneous connection of DESPE's ESL Play account with the ESL Play account of a banned cheater.

"Having reviewed the case in detail, it is definitive however that there has been no wrongdoing on the part of "DESPE". There is no evidence or documentation connecting "DESPE" to the account in question or to cheating of any kind.

"Consequently the player has been unbanned and ESL wishes to apologize to "DESPE" and Space Soldiers for the false flagging by our system & admins and the consequences of this."

indeed. but really valves' junk anti-cheat system is beyond worthless - can't even ban people while they have something running in the background, they have to get the community to review it LUL. And the people that do actually get banned half the time aren't even cheating; yet the cheaters are still out there not getting banned LUL. Like that one youtube guy or whatever that did an analysis on MM games and about 97% of the games played featured a cheater, or someone that was to be banned in the near future for using a cheat. Worthless company valve.

that's like some of the States making Ganja legal while it's still federally considered illegal. Why unban a cheater and allow them to play for money still, doesn't make sense. Match fixers and cheaters should never be allowed to play in any sort of event after conviction no matter who organizes the tournament..

I understood the IBP unban, because they are still not allowed at majors, making their appearance pretty limited. That's fine for me. But unbanning cheaters like Despe... gg, sold out. They didn't unban anyone you absolute idiot, ESL has a timed ban for example a cheater will get banned for 1-2 years if they do nothing to obstruct that ban they will be automatically unbanned when their ban expires this isn't something hard to figure out. Your logic is flawed "I understood the IBP unban, because they are still not allowed at majors" In this case iBP was manually unbanned, ESL went out of their way to unban them, and just to make myself clear 5 players match fixing is way worse than 1 player in a team cheating, cheating is unethical and scummy of course but match fixing is actually illegal and a crime that deserves fines and jail time don't even put these 2 things in the same category it makes you look like an idiot.

Well..... Hacking > Matchfixing in my book. Sure, matchfixing is illegal, but cheating is killing the game. And it actually is - slowly. If the law cared about eSports (but it does not, because no one has the balls to insert it), hackers and cheaters would get several years in federal prison for abusing a game and code. You already see this in China for example, which I respect. Those scumbags deserves to get smacked in prison whilst picking up soap, might teach them to get an actual job. Releasing matchfixers after taking their dream away from them will prevent them from doing the same now. That won't ruin the game (ALBEIT IN COMPARISON THEY STILL SHOULDN'T BE UNBANNED, BUT STILL) - releasing around-every-corner cheaters like Despe, KQLY etc... Mmh, once a cheater always a cheater, because it has no punishment other than career loss outside of Asian countries. And let's be honest: If you, like KQLY, got that much money as he got out of it, why not put on a show for the gallery, and act like you're sorry? Ofc he's not. That is true you have already seen in China and Korea where eSports has regulation, players who have been caught match fixing being given time in prison. For cheating I've never seen someone get more than a ban or a fine which imo is the proper punishment ban for 1 or 2 years and able to come back, cheating has the possibility to change the outcome of a game but people today are closet cheaters and not full blatant so that chance is not very high, you don't see people spin botting on pro matches for example (other than shara). 1 player cheating in a team that most of the time is even clueless themselves and don't know the guy in their team is cheating is not even close to the level of 5 players banding together and organizing match fixes it's quite literally organized crime, gambling has very poor regulation in our game as well which makes this shit so much easier for them. Remember iBP wouldn't have even been punished if one of the NA players girl friend didn't leak the evidence, even with Richard Lewis attacking them and CS Go lounge showing evidence it still took some random chick giving info for anything to happen. I read your whole comment, I will have to agree to disagree, I think cheating is scum shit and unethical but fixing the actual outcome of a match that people watch and gamble on is next level shit especially when all the players are aware of it, organized it and all participate in the action.

As expected. Good job, ESL. I told everyone the moment DESPE was apparently caught cheating that he wasn't, yet no-one believed me. I feel sorry for the inconvenience caused to DESPE, it must have been difficult for him being called a cheater falsely, as is every pro practically according to HLTV, but being banned officially because of suspicious activity is a different. I'm glad DESPE's name and credibility as a professional player is clear. :)

You guys will never be satisfied with anything done by ESL or Valve. ESL has little to gain, being paid by SpaceSoldiers (lol so much money) and risking their integrity in the future when one of these players retire or being cut will open their mouth and leak the story about how corrupt ESL is. Back in the day, I used tunneling service to get better ping when playing WoW, and I've been banned 3 times because the tunnel I was using somewhat linked to a botter's account. The system mistook our IP and banned multiple people. This ban was of obviously lifted less than 24 hours later. Things like this can happen when using a 3rd party program.
