Asia Minor groups revealed

The groups and the group stage format for the upcoming Asia Minor, which will see two teams qualify for the Main Qualifier for the ELEAGUE Major, have been revealed to HLTV.org.

After ViCi's pullout from the Minor due to visa issues and them being replaced by BOOT-d[S], the team list for the tournament that will be held in Seoul, Korea, has been set. Today, HLTV.org has learned the group draw from the event.

BnTeT's side will start off the tournament against Tainted Minds

Group A will feature two prominent Australian teams, the NA-based Renegades and the Oceanic hope Kings, as well the well known Koreans of MVP PK. Finishing off the group will be The MongolZ, who have recently qualified for IEM Oakland.

TYLOO and Flash will be the matchup many are eager to see from group B, but the Chinese sides will start the tournament with matches against Tainted Minds and BOOT-d[S] respectively.

The full group stage draw is available below:

Group A Group B
Australia Renegades China TYLOO
Australia Kings China Flash
Korea MVP PK Singapore BOOT-d[S]
Mongolia The MongolZ Australia Tainted Minds

The group stage will be played out using the GSL system, with BO1's for the opening matches and the winners match, while the elimination and decider matches will be BO3.

Renegades and The MongolZ will kick off the event on the first day, when group A will be played, with the second group to be played out on the following day.

These are the opening matchups for the Asia Minor:

Day 1
Australia Renegades vs. Mongolia The MongolZ
Australia Kings vs. Korea MVP PK
Day 2
China TYLOO vs. Australia Tainted Minds
China Flash vs. Singapore BOOT-d[S]

At this point, it has not been confirmed if this Asia Minor will use the tried-and-tested double-elimination playoff bracket that we saw in use at recent Minors.

B.O.O.T is SE Asia tho but it is unfortunate that no middle east/south asia teams, especially since this was purely off invites and there was no qualification process. IMO every region of the world should get a chance at the qualifiers, including Africa/ME/South Asia, even if they aren't major worthy we should be trying to expand and promote CS in every region.

Still don't understand why Asia gets two spots for the offline qualifier, it's just Renegades here can keep up with top teams

Well, there will always be teams like Tengri, not only from CIS. It's not like many teams from Asia came even close to qualifying for majors lately, yet people cry about CIS

They always qualify for Majors, right? That's a LUL It's incredibly dumb to argue about a region on the basis of one team's results. Many CIS teams regularly play at Majors and do well, that in itself is a reason to give CIS teams slots at qualifiers, look at any ranking-based real sport for instance.
