Cloud9 defeat BIG to win DreamHack Denver

Cloud9 have won DreamHack Open Denver after defeating BIG 2-0 in the final.

Tarik "tarik" Celik opened up the action on Cache with a trio of kills during a B retake, with Cloud9 following that up by taking the next anti-eco. A successful third-round buy sparked a great run from BIG, who won four of the next five rounds, but then the North Americans tightened up their defense to retake the lead.

Down 4-6, BIG clinged on to life with an A execution thanks to Fatih "gob b" Dayik winning a 1v1 against Jake "Stewie2K" Yip, who was left fuming. The North American player would redeem himself just two rounds later as he single-handedly won a round with everyone else on his team on eco, setting Cloud9 up for a 9-6 half.

The second half began with a near-flawless B execution from Cloud9, putting them on double digits. BIG hit back on eco, however, after Kevin "keev" Bartholomäus had found three kills early on, and they kept their defense very tight, never letting their opponents run away with the lead.

Cloud9 win their first title since the last Americas Minor

With the score 13-12, Cloud9 pushed A on eco hoping for a bomb plant, but they got much more than that as they won a very messy round. Johannes "tabseN" Wodarz still kept the deficit to a minimum with three quick kills, but then the North Americans picked up two rounds in a row to lock down the map, 16-13.

Next up was Train, where Cloud9 got off to a flying start, winnning eight of the first nine rounds to put BIG in danger of getting blown out. gob b then rescued his team with a 1v3 clutch on the outer site, but BIG's inability to string rounds together made it impossible for them to build up an economy, with the half ending in a 12-3 scoreline in favour of the North Americans.

Cloud9 piled more misery on their opponents by taking the opening three rounds of the half to hit match point. With their backs against the wall, BIG finally adjusted their offense and took a round, wreaking havoc in the North Americans' economy. Cloud9 took some time to recover, but once they did it was all over for BIG, with Stewie2K hammering the final nail into the Europeans' coffin with a 1v2 clutch after William "RUSH" Wierzba had picked up three key kills.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to support Cloud 9. The tactics are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the CT setups will seem overly complex or even stupid. There's also Stewie's genius play making which is deftly woven into his play style - his personal decision making draws heavily from Shox and Get_Right demos, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these strats, to realize that they're not just genuis- they say something deep about the game itself. As a consequence people who dislike c9 truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the genius is Tarik's decision of playing pop, despite rush being the best pop player in NA . I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Tarik and Stewie's genius unfolds itself on their computer screens. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Cloud 9 tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 2 ranks of my own (gold nova 1)

Yet another horrible double choke from mouz put c9 in the position to win this event. How can you be happy as c9 fans. I would be downright disappointed by the way they play. If they almost get 2-0’d by a team like mouz...

The Mouz/C9 semis determined the winner of this event. Both teams would've defeated BIG in BO3. Sad that Mouz didn't win.

I don’t think it’s sad. They deserved to lose. But people going apeshit over c9 winning this are delusional. It was their TASK to win this event looking at the opposition. The only possible threat was mouz. And they should have lost 2-0 against mouz. So c9 fans should be concerned imo. On the mouz question. Imo this lineup is just contaminated or something. I’d say strip everyone off the roster and contract hen1 lucas1 fnx etc. You get a major spot and have a real chance to get legend status.

looking at adr is just stupid, if you are in the ct side and the other team doesnt attack your bombsite and they all die attacking the other one, you just lose ratting cause you saw no one, that is really stupid, having a good kdr is way better to identify the better player, it means you won more aimduels or outsmarted the enemy.
