SK pull off comeback against NiP; Cloud9 defeat TheMongolz

SK have picked up their second win at IEM Oakland after defeating NiP 16-13, while Cloud9 bested TheMongolz, 16-9, in their first match of the tournament.

SK kicked off their match against Ninjas in Pyjamas on the right foot, winning a near-flawless CT pistol on Cobblestone. Still, much thanks to two Deagle entries from Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg, the Swedes would turn rally back immediately, setting themselves up for a three-round streak.

The Brazilians then got their second on the board, but Ninjas in Pyjamas kept racking up rounds and cruised to a commanding 11-4 halftime lead.

FalleN's men managed to beat NiP after being down 4-11

SK did not want to throw in the towel, and came into the second half with all guns blazing, winning the pistol, both anti-ecos, and the first full gun round thanks to a 1v3 clutch from Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo.

And even though Ninjas in Pyjamas then won a full eco, the Brazilian squad kept finding gaps in the Swedes' defense, losing just one more round before completing the comeback, 16-13, to secure their second victory in Burbank.

Cloud9 and The MongolZ faced each other on Mirage in what was their first match in the tournament. The North Americans got off to a great start, picking up a quick 4-0 lead as CT, but the Mongolians responded with rounds two of their own to break their opponents' economy.

On a shoddy buy, Cloud9 returned to the driving seat, with the North Americans following that up with three more rounds. Tsog "Tsogoo" Mashbat then came up huge as he clutched a 1v4 situation, paving the way for his team to reduce the deficit to 5-7.

From there on out, however, Jake "Stewie2K" Yip and co. did not concede any more rounds until half-time, and went on to reach match-point after winning the second pistol. The MongolZ then kept themselves in the game by stringing four rounds together, but Cloud9 crushed the Mongolians' hopes with a semi-buy win to lock down the map, 16-9.

Probably tilting for NiP to have such a nice advantage and then loosing 6 rounds in a row. Never the less, they are looking good as they have beaten 1 of the potential finalists, and made it close between the current worlds #1 (The group stage includes round differentials).

My point is that SK don't practiced for almost 3 weeks and Astralis were playing with a stand in, just read TACO's interview and Stewie2K's.

It's true that SK have been playing/pracitcing with boltz for a few days. Let's remember that they won EPICENTER with boltz. If I recall, coldzera said at EPICENTER that boltz had allowed him and fer to become more open and free with their roles in the team, which obviously gave them a confidential boost to their mentality. Overall SK look strong at the moment with boltz abling fer and cold to go nuclear.
