Astralis with stunning comeback vs. SK; NiP breeze past Cloud9

Astralis have won their second match at IEM Oakland following a triple-overtime marathon against SK Gaming, while Ninjas in Pyjamas made light work of Cloud9.

The match between SK and Astralis began with the Brazilian team picking up the pistol round and the following anti-ecos to secure a 3-0 lead. The first full gun round also went the Brazilians' way as Ricardo "boltz" Prass opened up the action with two entry frags in the canal, forcing Astralis to call a tactical pause. That move did not work out as planned, however, as SK remained in control, not giving their opponents any breathing room.

Down 0-8, Astralis finally managed to get a round on the board after denying SK's execution. That was the type of opening that the Danes were desperately looking for, with Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander picking up a trio of kills in the next round to prevent the reset for his team. Until the rest of the half, Astralis kept their defense very tight, losing just one more round to keep their comeback hopes alive.

Astralis keep their hopes alive in Burbank

The second half began with a dominant run from SK, who put their opponents against the ropes by winning five rounds in a row. With no room for error, Astralis finally clicked, winning five rounds straight, but then a quick double kill from Marcelo "coldzera" David put his team on match point.

Astralis refused to throw in the towel and took the game to the 30th round. SK thought they had won the round after Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo killed the opponent planting the bomb, but Nicolai "device" Reedtz miraculously rescued his team with two CZ kills in the nick of time to force overtime.

The first two overtimes could not determine a winner as the two teams kept cancelling each other out. In the third overtime, Astralis picked up three rounds straight on the Terrorist side and then one more as CTs to close out an eventful match and keep themselves in the race for a playoff spot.

Meanwhile, Ninjas in Pyjamas and Cloud9 faced each other, also on Overpass, with the North Americans taking a quick 3-0 lead thanks to a 1v4 clutch from Jake "Stewie2K" Yip in the pistol round. After buying up, the Swedes took control of proceedings, with a triple kill from William "draken" Sundin eventually giving them the lead.

NiP were far too hot for Cloud9 to handle

As the game wore on, Ninjas in Pyjamas's economic control became crushing, and Cloud9 simply could not find a way to break through the Swedes' stern defense, with the half ending in a lopsided 11-4 scoreline.

Now playing on the Terrorist side, Ninjas in Pyjamas continued to play at an extremely high pace and won five rounds straight to seal a convincing victory that puts them with one foot in the playoffs.

I literally can not understand why SK do not kick BOT TACO. SK always win matches with 4vs5. They manage to win every single matches because cold.fallen.fer.boltz are so great pro players compare to BOT TACO ffs. SK will be the invincible if they kick TACO srsly. It has been almost a year SK playing game with only 4 pro players in their team.

Most amazing and thrilling match I've ever watched (Astralis vs SK). Because these are my 2 favorite teams, favoring Astralis a bit more. So much tension followed by relief and this a dozen of times. Truly one of the greats. Sad it was only in the groups.

Great match , FalleN is a beast , device saved astralis in the last second at 14-15. This proves that the new SK is beatable even at 14-6 score. Coldzera as always pissing me off with his rating , 38 kills but almost no impact beside 2-3 doubles. Xyp9x is a monster in high pressure situations and ofc poor taco , some bad timings cost SK the game. GGWP , best bo1 of the year so far.
