NiP, SK & C9 to IEM Oakland playoffs; Astralis eliminated

With wins in the last two matches, Cloud9 and NiP secured playoff spots at IEM Oakland, while SK's good start to the tournament allowed them to make the bracket play over Astralis and EnVyUs.

Facing SK on Train, Cloud9 picked up the early momentum with a second-round force buy, going on a run of four round wins after that. SK's first gun round was a successful one and it broke Cloud9's economy, but another anti-eco blunder cost them the opportunity to take control of the match on the T side of Train.

Throughout the first half, Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham was impeccable, making up for his lackluster performance in the previous match against Envy. The North American AWPer boasted a 23-3 K-D at one point of the match but finished the half 24-6 as SK woke up towards the end of their Terrorist side.

Cloud9 came up big in the deciding match of the group stage

Cloud9 extended their 10-5 lead from the first half by winning the second pistol, however, Ricardo "boltz" Prass's double on the force stopped the North American side from building momentum early in the second half. It didn't add up to much in the end, as two from William "RUSH" Wierzba and one from Skadoodle opened up the first buy round for Cloud9, and they were able to close out the game from there to ensure their place in the playoffs - as well as eliminate Astralis from IEM Oakland 2017.

After winning the CT pistol on Nuke, Ninjas in Pyjamas set themselves up for a comfortable lead and put themselves in a good economic situation by securing the first buy. The key man in the round was Fredrik "REZ" Sterner, who picked up two kills on the lower site to deny the bomb plant. Envy first round came in round seven, and they importantly followed it up with another one, as Christophe "SIXER" Xia picked up a double entry with the AWP. (6-2)

As the half went on, Envy slowly took over the momentum, with Vincent "Happy" Schopenhauer spearheading his side with 17 kills on the T side. In the end, the French team was able to minimise Ninjas in Pyjamas's lead to just one round before switching to the defensive side of the map.

NiP eliminated EnVyUs in a direct fight for a playoff spot

Ninjas in Pyjamas went on a six-round winning streak at the start of the second half, making the score 14-7 and putting Envy in a tight situation. A triple kill from Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom stopped the bleeding, but only shortly, as the Ninjas confidently closed out the game 16-11 with the youngster REZ topping the scoreboard.

The final game of group A was the one between The MongolZ and Astralis. The Danes had to win against the Asian team to have a chance to move on in the tournament and didn't struggle to do so. After losing the CT pistol round and the following two rounds on Inferno, Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander's side dropped only one round to Enkhtaivan "Machinegun" Lkhagva and co. before the switch. (11-4)

With Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen dropping 29 kills, Astralis had no issues closing out the game on the Terrorist side. Despite dropping a couple of rounds along the way, the final score was a convincing 16-6 in favor of the Danish side.

u know sk was throwing, right? If they lose to c9 Astralis is eliminated sk vs astralis is 50/50 many times, but sk vs c9 is 90/10 if sk is actually trying lol so obv they lose to give themselves easier time in rest of tourney

ye vp is shit. but ss seems shittier atm. so vp probably takes it. srsly sad that ss made ecs dev league finals twice to lose to vp. and now they going to fail to make it to invite. they could have made tides and waves if they were in on both leagues. would ve been great for the scene here. extatus are alrite but comingftom open doesnt really mean that much seeing as they were almost all semipros before. ago on the other handonly has guby and furlan with the xp. the other 3 came out of nowhere. still truth be told i dont really care. i want rise nation and soar to make it and maybe gx as well. na premier is way more fun.

Well they won a OT so they only got 2 points, and that adds to their 6 points to equal 8, and SK had 2 wins with 1 OT win(which gives them 2 points) and one OT lose (which gives them 1 point) so that equals 9 so they have 1 point ahead of astralis, basically saying they go to playoffs instead of Astralis

No not really. As it is impossible to get a tie whereby both teams get 1 point, a game being split 15-15 and then going into overtime is essentially a tie + a few rounds to see who wins. If the two teams get to the 15-15 tie point, like every other real sport, they get 1 point and then the winner of OT is awarded 1 extra point basically for winning 4/6 rounds.

It should be like in the NHL. Full poits to the winner and a 'consolation' point to the loser. A point shouldn't be removed from the winner in any situation thats why a 16-0 worth the same as a 16-14.

Well 16-0 is worth the same as 16-14. Personally i agree with the full point to the winner no matter what happenend.

"Taco is so important for SK. He has such a difficult role to play." Apex is IGL and can entry frag better than Taco. His fans excuses suck. Oh, and no one explains why he is even worse as CT compared to T, does he have a different role as CT as well? Retards.

After watching the SK vs. Cloud9 game I feel that they should not get away with this. SK lose this game on purpose. Its many situations that you can se they dont play the way "pro" players do, they push when they should not, they stay in same poss alot so they get naded, if this was a FINALE they whould never make mistakes like this, if this was a opening game in this event they whould not make that many mistakes. So I hope they match will be checked if they find any proof at all. SK should get a year BAN from the scene. This is just sick that they do this to get rid of Astralis. Yes Astralis is a better team then C9 in the long run of a torney, but come on SK. Have some pride!

NiP vs ENV was happening at the same time SK vs C9. Do you think SK would thrown this match to eliminate AST taking the risk to get eliminated if ENV had won against NiP? LOL

Such BS from a cry baby, all you have to do is win your games, then you don't need others to do it for you.

I am not a fan of SK but if they had to ban them means less views and less money. CSGO is slowly dying IMO and cutting off the best teams is not the best idea for the organizers

This overtime system is awful and rewards losing, reduces competitivity and favors subpar teams overall.

You goddamn cucks act like this is the first time this has happened in the history of CS. Teams have thrown matches to drop down to lower bracket for easier path in the tournament including your Swedish saints all the time. Gtfo here with your sportsmanship speech and holier than thou attitude. Edit: Stop calling out the system coz your fav team lost or is out. If SK lost that way, there would be 20 monkey threads by Danes right now dancing with their dicks out
