Gambit overrun FaZe; OpTic move past Liquid

Gambit have picked up their first victory at IEM Oakland after thrashing FaZe, while OpTic have moved up to second in the group after defeating hometown favourites Liquid.

Gambit got off to a flying start to the match as they cruised to a 5-0 lead following fast B executions in the pistol round, in which Bektiyar "fitch" Bahytov got three kills to his name, and in the first full gun round despite being on a shoddy buy.

FaZe then finally managed to hold Gambit off, but they were instantly reset after being caught off-guard by the Terrorists' aggressive manoeuvres. The Kazakh team kept pressing on and eventually increased their lead to 8-1, forcing the European mixture to call a tactical pause in a bid to halt their opponents' momentum.

Gambit demolished FaZe in a one-sided match

It was only then that FaZe managed to string some rounds together. But their run would not last; Gambit continued to play at an extremely high pace and closed out the half with a commanding 12-3 lead.

Gambit then piled more misery on their opponents by winning the pistol round. A series of force buys from FaZe failed to produce any results, giving Dauren "AdreN" Kystaubayev's men the last rounds they needed to run out victorious.

Elsewhere, Liquid took on OpTic looking to extend their perfect start to the tournament. The first round of the match went OpTic's way, but then the North Americans responded on eco thanks to a quad kill from Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski with a Desert Eagle.

Liquid took that chance to secure a 4-1 lead, but they were unable to hold on to it as OpTic responded by stringing a few rounds together. The North Americans then tightened up their defense, winning four of the next five rounds to take a narrow 8-7 halftime lead.

OpTic beat Liquid in convincing fashion

Now playing as CT, OpTic put in a near-flawless display. The Europeans shut down any chances of Liquid building up an economy or stringing rounds together, and eventually took the map at 16-10 to move up to second in Group B.

Definitely underrated when they win 16-3 and has 20-80 to win the match on most betting sites :)

Too Inconsistent w/o Zeus tho. Don’t expect Gambit to make it out of groups at the next major.

I don’t, do not worry. FaZe has to prove themselves at the major too, since that is a whole different beast than all other tournaments.

It's a bo1, it has never been consistent except when NiP went 87-0, other than that every single best team has always lost silly bo1's.

SK at their height lost 16-0 to renegades, teams have always, no matter how good they are still lost in silly ways in bo1's. The current top 10 teams are very close when it comes to skills and tactics, the only thing making certain teams (SK, faze, Astralis) stand out more so than the others is consistency, they are at their top level far more than the other teams in the top 10 but all it takes for them to lose in a big way is one of the top 10 teams performs to their highest level and the top 3 team performs at a normal to low level.

SK was definitely on the level of NiP and fnatic when at their height, faze would have to keep their current form up for at least a year and a half to be considered on their levels.

cool story. look at the games vs faze in Mykonos and Epicenter. anyway gambit is t1 team regardless of the hltv stats.

I consider T1 as top 5 teams of which gambit are definitely not. The problem is there is no set definition of tiers for CS.

It is generally known that first ten teams in HLTV ranking counts as tier1 team in CS:GO nowadays

Generally known where? The HLTV rankings take into account placements at big events and if a team decide to not compete at any big events for 3 months their ranking would tank regardless of how good of a team they are so are not a good indicator of who the best teams are. I have never seen anyone who knows even a little about CS:GO state tier one is the HLTV top 10 never mind it being "generally known"

It is like if someone considers UK as one of the developed countries, but another group of people don't. At the end, it is needed to formulate a general ranking. Same here, and HLTV ranking is like your datum point. It is nonsense if everybody makes their own "tier1" list of teams and saying that it's a fact. Indeed, that's just one's point and nothing more. I'm mentioning this "I consider T1 as top 5 teams of which gambit are definitely not."

When will you wannabe know-it-alls realize that CS has become so inconsistent on the Pro scene that set tiers do not exist anymore? xD

Bro if Renegades beat Optic and G2 beats liquid. Gambit automatically is in if they win their game vs Renegades under those conditions.
