Astralis beat Cloud9 in Group B opener

Astralis have won their first match at the ECS Season 4 Finals in Cancun, Mexico, after defeating Cloud9 16-11 on Train.

Cloud9 opened up the action in Group B with a successful A execution, setting themselves up for an initial 3-0 lead as Terrorists. With a successful gun round, the North Americans remained in control of proceedings, forcing Astralis to call a tactical pause in the seventh round.

It was then that Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander's men were able to pick up their first round despite being on a shoddy buy. After following that up with another round, the Danes wreaked havoc in the Cloud9 economy. In the tenth round, Astralis looked set to keep on stringing rounds together, but double-kills from William "RUSH" Wierzba and Timothy "autimatic" Ta in 3v4 situation helped their team get back in the driving seat.

gla1ve and co. are off to a good start in Cancun

That would not last long, however, as the Danes immediately responded with a very tight defence to reset their opponents' economy. Astralis kept pressing on, with the half ending in a surprisingly close 8-7 scoreline.

Tarik "tarik" Celik's team began the second half on the right foot, picking up their second pistol round of the game and countering Astralis' third-round buy. Nevertheless, the Danish men did not want to throw in the towel, and replied with a successful B execution with nothing but pistols.

Despite winning an eco round, Cloud9 simply could not keep up with Astralis's high pace, with the Danish team eventually locking down the map, 16-11.
