Rogue defeat Rise Nation and secure ESL Pro League spot

Rogue took a 2-0 win over Rise Nation (19-17 Inferno, 16-13 Mirage) to place second in the North American ESL Pro League Relegation and secure a spot in the next season of Pro League.

The final match of the ESL Pro League Relegation saw Rise Nation take on Rogue, with the BO3 deciding the final spot in the 7th season of Pro League. The action kicked off on Inferno, with the Canadian side showing why they picked the map early on, as they put up a dominant Terrorist side. After a 7-0 start, Rise Nation extended their lead to 10-1, with Kaleb "moose" Jayne being their main man throughout the first half.

To make things even worse for Rogue, Andy "vSa" Xu stepped up with clutches in rounds 13 and 15, earning his side an incredible 13-2 Terrorist half. The map seemed all done at this point, but the North American veteran Spencer "Hiko" Martin would go on a tear in the second half, with Rogue picking up nine straight rounds to make things interesting.

Rise Nation's lead came down to just two rounds (13-11) when they picked up two out of three rounds, putting up a team effort to get to match point. Hiko wouldn't let it go, though, and clutched a 1v3 on the opponents match point, eventually forcing overtime.

Rise Nation finally got a good start to a CT side round then, with Brandon "Ace" Winn's AWP double on short giving them the first additional round. Michael "Uber" Stapells and Casper "cadiaN" Møller clutched a 2v3 in the following one, though, Rogue finished the half with a 17-16 lead and eventually closed out the game 19-17 to complete a miraculous comeback.

cadiaN and the rest of Rogue were loud throughout the series

Mirage stared with a crazy pistol round that included Hiko picking up a knife kill, while Daniel "vice" Kim had to go big and win a anti-eco 1v3 two rounds later to secure a 3-0 Terrorist side start for Rogue.

Rise Nation replied with a clean full-buy win, but two closely contested rounds that went Rogue's way set the tone of the first half. The Canadian side was constantly on the back foot economy wise, which Uber and co. exploited by going fast and hitting sites together.

As the score was 8-1 in favor of Rogue, they ran over Jonathan "Jonji" Carey on B and secured the site to extend their lead, with the young player making up for it with two key kills that earned his side the round in the follow up.

Josh "shinobi" Abastado added a 4K and helped his team finish the Terrorist half 12-3, Uber secured a hat-trick of frags in the pistol and Rogue were soon on the verge of closing out the game.

It was 13-3 when Rise Nation stole away a force-buy round an started slowly bringing the game back. They got to 15-7 when they had Will "dazzLe" Loafman, moose and then Ace pull off crazy clutches to keep the Pro League dream alive, eventually getting the score to 15-12. There is where the comeback attempt ended, though, and with Ace unable to pull of a 1v3 on A, Rogue took the 16-13 win to secure ESL Pro League Season 7.

His LAN stats in '17 were 0.99 compared to 1.09 online. I honestly dont see that much difference when you account hes playing a lot more trash NA teams online to stat boost.

I honestly don't believe shot calling as an excuse for poor fragging. I may shot call for a shitty team that's not pro but I consistently frag and uphold a good rating. It's honestly not that hard if you have pre thought out strats with your team that you just said let's do the Z strat and they all know what to do.

Have u been calling on Lan / bigger online tournaments, where the opponent might outsmart the pattern of your calling? Have you been needed to adapt to opponents or are you just prepared for everything with your team? Its easy to Call against random noobs. You are allowed to have ur own beliefs but do not generalize when your knowledge is limited to personal experience. Not saying personal experience is bad - it just does not show the whole picture.

Yea sure I can see where your coming from maybe the swiss cs scene just sucks ass and I can top frag while calling. My point is if you have a enormous set of strats to call from and your team knows what to do based off of a simple code name then all you have to think about is what the other team is gonna do and most of the times the coach can do that for you. I used to be on a team in american football where you had over 60 predetermined plays that the captain would call out with a code name and no matter what the other team was thinking or could do, you'd still execute that exact thing and there's always room to go rogue and do something out of the ordinary or out of the blue. Honestly all you have to do is look at Tarik from cloud9. He's calling and he can frag like crazy. It's a lot about having the right mentality.

Not comparable. IGLs who are competing against pro teams absolutely have an excuse to not frag on the level on their teammates. The majority of IGLs are constantly watching the radar and micromanaging their teammates to ensure the strats work, they don't get to focus on getting kills.

It's fair to say that an IGL shouldn't always frag as hard as their teammates, and I'm completely okay with that statement, but the problem is that Rogue isn't even that tactically sound. They're an absolute mess, and to say it's okay to both lead and play poorly is an issue in my eyes. Shinobi isn't Sean Gares, who actually has really solid insight into the plays. He's just a guy calling a set up or a default, and that's about it, if he's reading his opponents he's not doing a very good job.

Nt rise nation Super impressive how they rose so quickly online. Maybe next year they'll be able to convert it to LAN success. NA premier improved a lot last season and Rise is testament to that. There's still an enormous gap between NA and EU premier but it's closing faster than I thought it would

Nice throw by Rice Noobs. Inferno they were given so many opportunities to close out the map, but failed to convert. Most blatant misplay was 29th & 30th rounds force buy instead of saving 29th and having a decent buy for the last round. (Not like their force buys had any effect previously.) Well deserved win by Rogue.
