ESWC Grand Final postponed
20-3-2009 19:35
The Electronic Sports World Cup has just announced in a open-letter, that the season’s grand final event has been postponed to the last quarter of 2009.
Another one bites the dust, or at least seems fairly close to. The ESWC had already year’s back financial issues, when NVIDIA dropped as main-sponsor. The organization recovered, but is now once again faced with big issues, as no ESWC partners have renewed its support for 2009, except Ile-de-France.
ESWC ask all partners to suspend their national license fee payment until further notice and announce that no more games will be added to the current game list.
The ESWC Cheonan Masters will still take place as stated, as the event is entirely financed by local Korean sponsors.
Game-Services, the company behind ESWC, are also facing a serious cash flow crisis, which might lead to ESWC being organized by a third part or a new business owner.
The ESWC Grand Final scheduled to take place in June has been postponed to last quarter of 2009. ESWC will be looking for new opportunities in France and other countries during this time.
You can read the letter at following link. The letter is written by Matthieu Dallon, President of ESWC. We will stay tuned and wait for updates from ESWC side.
