IEM Katowice 2018 EU Closed Qualifier bracket drawn

The matchups for the IEM Katowice 2018 Closed Qualifier, that will take place on February 3-4, have been drawn.

Twelve teams will be in competition for the four IEM Katowice 2018 Europe Closed Qualifier, where four LAN spots are up for grabs. Out of the twelve squads, eight squads got a direct invite, while four of them made it through the two open qualifiers.

North will debut their new roster in tomorrow's qualifier

Among the invited teams are the likes of MOUZ, Natus Vincere and fnatic, while the four qualifier slots were claimed by Singularity, HEROIC, Epsilon and AGO.

Today, the double-elimination bracket, which will be played out exclusively using BO3 matches, has been drawn. With 12 teams in the competition, the four best-ranked ones have been placed directly in the quarter-final, while the other eight teams will have to earn their place there.

The thing is, gambit didnt have to face and beat the top 4 teams in the world. C9 did and did it quite convincingly. Im not sayin NA is #1 but it sure as hell isnt as much of a joke as it used and i have no idea how no NA team is in this

It's based on the ESL Ranking system, or more accurately the club ranking system. eslgaming.com/worldranking/csgo#/ The seeding for the IEM Katowice event will also be based on these rankings

I'm guessing since they don't do ranks below 34 every team outside of that are considered rank 0 on the rankings therefore they moved down from 0 to 18

Not really if you understand their logic. The Club Rankings look at results over the last 12 months instead of the usual 6 of their Power Rankings and 3 of HLTV. North had a strong early and mid 2017 where as NaVi didn't start getting good results until later on in the year.
2018-02-02 22:49

wow, what a joke those club rankings are! they count every event of the last 11 months with 100% weight. btw, the hltv rankings use: 2 months in the form category with 200 points for 1st; 3 months in the lan category with 300 points for first; 12 months in the achievement category with 500 points for 1st. but, other than esl, hltv has a weighting system for their achievements, meaning you get less and less points over time for any given result. that imo much better reflects overall strength, giving astralis full credit now for winning kato in march 2017 is ridiculous.

I understand the HLTV system. I actually sort of like how it works. Although it doesn't have decay on really good results it also doesn't have decay on bad results. Someone like Fnatic who was having a lot of trouble with their roster in early to mid 2017 didn't start getting good results until lately so they maybe shouldn't be as rewarded as a team like Astralis who had consistent results. Saying that though I also like HLTV's since it gives a more recent idea for who the best in the world is.

i'm confused. in your 2nd sentence, are you saying hltv doesn't have decay? because it does, even within the first 3 months, although a small one. and looking at the achievements of ast and fnc, they're pretty even overall. the xmas/newyear break gives the major more importance, so fnc has a slight edge.

The third sentence, that starts with Although is mean to transition to me talking about the ESL system since I'm pretty sure it doesn't have point decay. I understand the confusion there.

Come on... We all know Epsilon is the weakest team alongside Singularity, it would be a huge surprise if they didnt go out with 0-2 record. Just lets be honest here, they are at a 12th spot in my power ranking, the fact they got drawn against NaVi... its just impossible for them. They also made it into the closed qualies cause of an easy route through the open one, if they met AGO or SS along the way or even Wololos they would be out already

Yeah lets dream. Btw isnt cosmeen the guy known for his worse spray than Kjearbye? I mean as even more obvious one, sorry if Im wrong but there is a lot of cheaters from Romania and I dont know why

has kjaerbye a bad spray? LOL btw I watched some matchs with cosmeeen, online and Lan...the entire Gifinity Elite Series was LAN and in LAN u cant cheat...and he was good at that competition... of couse was a minor tournament with a bunch of shitty UK teams but he is a good player i think...not a top team player but a good one...4 example it seems to me he frags more than STYKObot but yet Styko plays into a top team...so...we'll see :)

Kjearbye's spray? Obvious cheating. "Oh shaking my hand around my target is helping me to aim better"... ummm, okay? He zigzags in 90 degrees angles, thats what an aimlock does when its badly configurated, unfortunately he cannot stop spraying like that rn cause he would be lynched for hacking. But yeah, there was one romanian guy whose spray was even more shaky than Markus' one.
