Beyond the Summit has revealed the first-round matchups for the upcoming cs_summit 2 tournament.

Running from February 8-11 at the Summit House, in Los Angeles, the second cs_summit iteration will see eight teams compete in a double-elimination bracket, with every match featuring a best-of-three format.

The draw for the first round has thrown up a fascinating tie between Ninjas in Pyjamas, who are desperate to return to action after missing the Major, and the new Liquid roster, featuring Keith "⁠NAF⁠" Markovic, who was signed from Renegades on Monday.

Cloud9 will face Heroic in the quarter-finals

North, who swapped two players after the Major, will lock horns with Vega Squadron, while Boston champions Cloud9 will take on HEROIC.

We have an internal scene, like lithuania and those random ass countries. We've got the talent but RNG are the only big AU org. But we know we won't make it on the big stage because a) our broadband might as well be from 2003 b) No publicity c) games are here still seen as things that make kids become mass murderers d) computer parts cost a fuck ton more than over in USA, and shipping kills you even if its a 1 hour drive.

Well cs_summit is taking place during a post-major mini player break. Faze are likely wanting to rest and have a little time to themselves before Starseries and IEM Katowice. NIP on the other hand desperately want to play matches to try to maintain some sort of form.

C9 and SK obviously are teams who thrive on momentum so taking a one month break doesn't benefit them. North want to work on their new lineup, plus they went 0-3 so not like they're in need of a break. Liquid want to get more time in with steel. Vega want more international lan experience. NIP probably didn't want to risk a horrible failure at starseries and instead chose a smaller event where they sort of had a chance at doing something.

Basically it was pick them or Renegades/NRG. They decided to go with the team that would bring more viewers. Swag/Steel/AZK. Plus steel was there last year as an analyst so there's a previous relationship. They're not the best team they could have invited but they're the most interesting.
