Torqued stun Vega Squadron

The first Lower Bracket match of the tournament began on Inferno, Torqued's pick, with the North Americans responding really well to a pistol round loss as they won a force-buy, setting themselves up for a 4-1 lead.

Vega Squadron then brought the deficit to a minimum off of triple-kills from Nikolay "⁠mir⁠" Bityukov and Pavel "⁠hutji⁠" Lashkov. But since those rounds had been very expensive for the Russian side, they were left strapped for cash once Torqued regained control of the game, with the half ending with a 10-5 lead for the North Americans.

The second half began at a frantic pace as both teams managed to win scrappy force-buys, with Torqued then stringing a few rounds together to increase their lead to 14-6. Vega Squadron then found a way back into the game after punishing the CTs' overaggression, with the North Americans being held off any economic development.

With Dmytro "⁠jR⁠" Chervak stepping up his AWP game, Vega Squadron tried to push the game to overtime, but Torqued eventually sealed the deal in a B retake thanks to a triple-kill from Matt "⁠Pollo⁠" Wilson.

The map that followed was Mirage, where Joshua "⁠steel⁠" Nissan opened up the action with a trio of kills in the pistol round. After losing the following eco round, Vega Squadron rallied back with a third-round buy after overtuning a 2v4 situation in the B site.

Torqued then kept their defense very tight, winning five of the next six rounds, but a late resurgence from Vega Squadron saw them bag four rounds to bring the deficit to a minimum - and they could have taken the lead had they not allowed Kenneth "⁠koosta⁠" Suen to clutch a 1v3 situation.

The second half began with Torqued winning the pistol round following a successful B execution. The game then entered a scrappy period of play as neither side could stamp their authority on the game, with Vega Squadron twice recovering from three-round deficits.

With the score tied at 14-14 and a solid economy, the CIS side looked set to take the series to a third map, but then they shockingly let the game slip and lost two rounds in horrific fashion to lose a map that was all but won.
