lurppis: "the list is a complete joke"

With the ESWC committee releasing the preselected teams for ESWC Cheonan Masters earlier today, Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen fires at ESWC, stating that the list is a complete joke.

Crack Clan find themselves on the waiting list for ESWC Cheonan Masters. The team captain, Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen is clearly not happy with the teams ESWC selected. In a interview at readmore.eu he speaks out how he really cannot understand some of the teams selected. ESWC wrote prior to the signup, that accomplishments/motives would pay a factor when the committee picked the teams.

"Besides some good placings over the past three years we've been ranked 3rd-8th in ZoneRank/G7 rankings the whole time, yet we don't make a top12 list that includes two teams I've never heard of, Singapore's best team, and Australia's best team, neither of which has ever even made top8 in an international event."

With American team Evil Geniuses and x3o being invited, he also clears out that that the only American team that could deserve a spot, would be Gravitas Gaming.

"On top of that, they've invited the new EG.usa team that have yet to achieve anything in CS 1.6 since the end of 2006, and recently placed 5-6th at Kode5 USA.

Also invited are x3o, who placed 2nd at the same event.... Obviously the American team deserving to be invited are Gravitas, I think they've been f***d out of their spot almost even more ridiculously than us if possible."

If you wish to read the entire interview, then head over to readmore.eu where you will find more comments from the Crack Clan captain.

Great, he feels the same as I do. I mean, I put in an application for this event for redemption - just mainly to see what feedback we'd get. Turns out though, a team with more or less the same achievements as us (nothing) is selected. Its made a mockery of the whole event tbh.

What do you know about their achievements in Asia? Just curious if you really have any information, and maybe they thought it would be fun for the people spectating the tournament live to have some Asian teams.:)

Hahahahaha, LURPPIS IS A COMPLETE JOKE! ^^ Where are your results mate? top what in what event in the last 2 years? Or you think that just competing in the groups in some event is a big result and you should be invited for that? As someone said, I agree in some points, but being best in Australia might be better than being top15 in Europe if orga is doing # number of teams per continent. x3o is currently top ranked US team, in their league, so they can cover on that even if Gravitas is better.

Last 2 years? That may not be much, but it surely is much better than what 7 (eg, x3o, speeder, immunity, ultimax, titans, wnv) of the 12 teams have achieved.

Sure, I agree that you are top5-10 (maybe not now) team in Europe, but as I said in my previous post, you can't deny the fact that top team from Australia, top team from Asia, top team from America etc deserve spots more than some top5-15 team in Europe? You follow football right? It's same as some European nation in football would say..."Oh fuck, how did Senegal get to world cup and we're better than them, omg, there are Iran, and we would own them" and stuff like that... I hope you at least get my point now!?

We are top10 in the World if you look at our tournament history and G7 rankings. Are any of the teams I mentioned "not worth of the invite" in the top10? No. That's why we should have been invited instead, in my opinion. And no, I don't watch/follow soccer.

It's football :) G7 rankings are not official CS rankings, and you know it. There is no official CS orga in the world (like FIFA in football for example, if you even heard about that!?) It's same as if I made some orga and made rankings on my criteria. Fragbite does it, gotfrag does it and so on...Your team surely wouldn't be in top10. Or you want me to list teams that are better AND have done better than your team over the past year or two!? Who cares if you were even top team in the world like 5 years ago? Even 2 years ago is too far back. Players change fast, teams change, results change, there are a lot of events... Point is: # slots per continent and that's it. YOu are not top3-4-5 on your continent and you can't (obviously you can) complain cuz some top Asian team is there before your.

Only Americans call their football 'football' and soccer 'soccer'. I guess you are not an American!? I didn't mean slots per continent literary, but you maybe think that placing 7th on some European event (like you always place) is better than winning some Asian tournament (like some of the invited teams did), but they just don't share your opinion. It's just that.

None of those teams have ever won or even placed in any "Asian" tournament, the Chinese and Koreans are far superior in CS to Taiwan/Singapore/Australia/Japan. We placed 7th by a couple of rounds, but we still beat mouz and tied SK, and beat both x3o and EG (instead of whom Gravitas should be going in the first place). Ohh, and I think I'll decide what I'll cal soccer/football. Also assuming there may be people from other countries than Finland reading I think it's only obvious to use the correct names.

Who cares even if you beat all and but placed 7th in the end? (can't happen but I guess you see the point) It's the final rankings that count, not by what rounds you lost in some match that if you'd won would make you 3rd or 4th LOL Don't even mention football, would be a total disaster considering your knowledge. Better to stick with just calling it football. :)

Maybe you should check that list again, cuz there is only 1 (I think 1) tournament where he claims they placed 1st. All rest they are named losers 5-8th place is simply not good enough to be considered top top team.

Dude, please understand it doesn't depend on where you are or where you are from. It depends solely on the language you are speaking in. If you are speaking American English, than if you say football you are refering to American Futebol in British English. It doesn't matter if you are in Peru, Turkey, Portugal, Australia or on HLTV.org. What matter is the language you are speaking. As all forms of English are allowed here at the forum, it's correct to say soccer, as it's correct to say football.

There may not be? Why? Official CS orga can be easily created, ranking system like in tennis for example etc. It's very easy to create something like that. Until there is something like that, all is matter of opinion. Mine is that CC is overrated, mostly by themselves, with this statement being one solid proof of it. They think that God himself sent them to make the difference in the world and so on... .... ...

CrackClan doesn't deserve any invite in any international event. Firstly they're the biggest lamers in the world, and what lurrpis said confirm that they think they're superior to every team in the world. Secondly, they didn't achieve anythings either in the last events, and the worse part is that they were playing ffa in most of them. So when you don't care at all when you're playing an event, stop crying when you're not invited in the next one... CRACKCLAN IS THE JOKE HERE !

crack clan are rubbish, lurrpis was postin shit the other day after they beat lemondogs, saying how good they were, when spawN fisker and striek rhavn't even been playing for ages and didnt have any time to get an tactics together, crack clan think they are allmighty gods jst because they go to most big events, they are over rated finish lamers who never win anything, give some unknowns a chance, they cnt do any worse than CC

And you sure know they are not able to attend ESWC becouse they simply can't attend qualifiers in other countries.

cmon have u seen them playin in EM? It looked like they didn't care at all about the event, that's why i say they souldnt be invited. They are the biggest lamers in 1.6 scene atm, that's true and it's not coming from me (ask mSx for instance t.t). THEY RE BETTER THAN ME? I'm not getting paid or playing, and i don't want to make my living playin counter-strike. The fact that they are better than me doesn't allow me to give my pov? Sorry but clans like emL, ALT or ATS deserve this invite way more than crackclan.

cmon,I've seen them.Ruuit has left them, but ( if you are not only partial man ) you had too see they was trying and they did good job. ALT?ATS? .. be serious, not like Joker from Dark Knight And if you are only Cs watcher, then you don't know how hard they have to practise to be in their level. I don't think they are best or something like that, but they are still good.Dunno why they aren't in the list - if I exaggerate this, why is for example TitaNs,x3o,EG in the list? .. Don't want to make quarrel.Just opinion against opinion

How do you see if they're being serious or not when you're watching HLTV at home? :P I mean they were serious at INFERNO ONLINE, where they won every match without losing more than 5 rounds per map I think.

I never said we would be better than any of the 5 good teams that were invited. We had 2 days of practice before EM, what do you expect? Even with 2 days of practice we beat your beloved EG and x3o, mouz and tied SK. Also, we played seriously the whole time, maybe if you ever attended a tournament yourself instead of watching HLTV at home you'd know the difference.

but lemondogs is a mix clan, they don't have any sponsors i guess and they are together for less time than EG team (except n0thing, who is new) and ok, i know that e.g.fisker,spawn and vilden played together years ago, but they had a big break, EG was playing css so it's even similar situation.

Umm... No. The hype can only get you so far, they were ranked top10 in the world by GotFrag the minute the news post went up about their team, but they have yet to break top4 in their OWN COUNTRY. Yet still, somehow they're getting invited over Gravitas who have won multiple events in a row in USA right now. What they did in 2005-2006 shouldn't help in 2009.

Nah, actually I got an email answer to my question from ESWC Korea and they said EG was invited because they were ranked best in GotFrags World Rankings out of American teams, on a ranking that was put up after the news post about EG, before EG ever played their first match. Now thats eSports ridiculousness at its best, LOL.

I guess counter-strike is finally becoming over run by the businesses backing it. Obviously for teams that no one has even heard of to have gotten in means that SOMEBODY got paid a pretty penny for them to get in. And I TOTALLY agree with the US part. WHY EG.us, WHY? They haven't even been able to compete in their OWN LOCAL scene, yet they get invited to a huge international event - taking the place of a team that really deserves it, or at least another shot at an international event? I mean, c'mon. Gravitas didn't do amazing at EMIII, but they looked REALLY really good. Especially compared to even x3o, which is supposedly america's best team. Absolutely no reason for them to be there. On a side note- Frod blows.

Nebojsa, you're wrong, and now you are too deep with your opinion to back down from it. They deserve to participate in the event due to the history and current gameplay. It is unfair to rule them out due to previous bad performance, and laughing at their desire to be in the playoffs is purely childish. It seems that many good clans have been overlooked, alternate being the other one - performed brilliantly on EM, and look...they didnt even get to an invite. Lurppis may have spoken a bit too harsh, since cold words never solve anything, however anger is understandable in this situation - imagine yourself being put in this situation...wouldnt you feel cheated out, just like lurppis?

1. History counts for nothing unless it's some close history (their history is left way back, and as you've seen, his 'successes' are 7th 5-8th etc and top3 on some smaller tours) 2. I can count at least 5 teams that deserve the invitation more than them, Alternate being one of them. 3. I wouldn't feel cheated out, I would take it like all sportsmen do, continued to train hard and try to get some results next time. I don't see any other teams complaining like he did, do you?

You would feel cheated out, just like sportsmen feel unfair and unjust decisions. I too think other teams should have been given a chance, however CC is still among them, since their performance in EM showed they are a clan that can surprise in the most unexpected moment.

I guess you know how I would feel? ^^ Mate, since there is no official CS rankings, in the world, noone can complain about the list of invited teams. I know how that stuff works, and I agree with all of it except for the US team, but it's also a matter of judgment. 3-4-5 from Europe, top team or top2 from Asia, top from Australia, top from US and so on...No way that 5-15th team from Europe deserved spot more than some top Australian team, even tho they are better. You see it all the time, Olympics, WorldCups etc

Alternate and mibr didn't even apply, what are the other teams that should be there? I'm not sure if you realized but you had to APPLY for this tournament, which all of the "best" teams did not. Anyways, would be nice to see the list of 5 teams that deserve the invitation more than we do based on past results :). You don't think Gravitas are complaining? I just honestly don't care about what some nicknames on esports websites think about me so I can voice my opinion when something this ridiculous happens. Gravitas feel just as cheated out as we do. Now you see, in real sports, people actually make a nice living out of it. In CS at least we don't make a living off CS, we don't get salary and for example prize money wise we're still waiting for EM2 prize money, event that ended almost 13 months ago. We play simply for the competition/chance of money, for us missing out on big tournaments actually makes a huge difference.

They don't make a nice living in all sports, maybe in home high-profile sports like football, basketball etc. Doubt anyone makes money running 10.000m in Africa. They, like you, just compete cuz they like it. And I'll say it again, in pictures...That 10th placed runner on 10.000m in Africa is A LOT better than some 2nd placed from Australia, obviously, but still Australians will get invited as more continents are wanted to take part. Same is here, or you just don't want to accept that fact? You are invited in all European competitions, but when there are some world competitions, it's not the quality that counts, it's just the matter of including the world. And yeah, if you didn't care on what someone thinks about you, you wouldn't even reply to these posts on hltv.org ->

I answer cause I like arguing but you're just not making any sense, this is the ESWC Masters, the fact that it's in Asia shouldn't make any difference when for most teams its the only way to qualify for the grand finals (that may or may not) happen. Anyways I'm looking forward to a list of 5 teams that deserve to attend this event more than we do, you said you had it so lets hear it? :)

Yea, I know you like arguing, it's just the way you are! :) Even if they didn't apply, they deserve the spot more than you (I don't know who applied and who didn't) Alternate WeMadeFOX - eStro Giants/Blank (even tho they folded they are way better teams than you and have better results in the past year) ATS.dk k23 There are a lot of teams that are better than you. Even some mix team from Sweden would beat you easily.

Hahahaha...yea. That's because you think that placing 1st in some Finnish lan is better than placing 2nd in Swedish tournaments (Blank/Giants) k23 have WAY better results than you whenever they play in a major even, when their budget allows them to. I think they even beat you most of the times you played, but I'd have to check on that. wemadefox, alternate - did or didn't, will play or won't, I said they are teams that are better than you and deserve those spots more than you do. You again confirmed those talks how you think you are inferior to everyone, by your upper post, but you just are too proud to admit it. Bottom point: Get results and than whine, 7th is just not good enough.

We also have beaten both SK and fnatic many times, and we've actually beaten other teams too, unlike Blank/Giants. They qualified thanks to a better map difference, nothing to do with us really, we just beat A-gaming/excello only 2-1.

Surely we did, but you're saying Giants was better than us cause they lost vs us but got a better map difference vs other teams? That's just dumb.

Exactly. So why are you speaking than? I will explain to you, since you are a bit tarded...CS is a team game. There is a difference between playing some mixes, some deathmatch and playing serious team matches. 1. Spawn stopped playing on team basis long time ago, all other was just stepping in, with not training, pracc etc. 2. striker is also always stand-in, never seriously been in some team, for some while. And what about other 3 players? Or you think that even if walle and f0rest were there instead of spawn and striker that that team is serious and strong? How can 2 players carry 5 man game if other 2-3 didn't play in like 5 years or so (vilden for example)

i'm sry but i'm so so agree with lurppis... WTF IS THIS LIST? \*mTw fnatic SK ex-MYM x3o Evil Geniuses mousesports wNv Speeder immunity TitaNs Ultimate*/ OK for mtw-fnatic-SK-MYM-Mouz-wNv... But x3o-EG don't deserve And Speeder-immunity-Titans-Ultimate -> WTF are these teams? is that a joke? The best choice for sponsors/organisation/viewers/everybody is that a tournament must have max of competitive teams. Why they don't pick crackClan-emuLate-Alternate-Gravitas in place of unknow and "noob"-teams? this tournament going to be sooooo boring. Because only 2-3 teams can pretend to the victory... Others are there for nothing....

"CS isn't only Europa, american and asian teams must have a chance to win." My point of view is not base on geographic variables but on the real level of teams. x3o-EG-Speeder-immunity-Titans-Ultimate are NOWHERE on cs internationnal level... So have a chance to win ok right, but give slot to goods teams as (crackClan-emuLate-Alternate-Gravitas) And orginize qualification for others... omg... What is the good think when some teams like Speeder and Co going to loose every matchs 16-1/16-2/16/3?

The best way to promote cs is to make the matches entertaining, and the best way to do that is to invite teams that are roughly equal skill-wise, not just some teams that gonna get crushed. And to Nebojsa: funny how you keep saying lurppis thinks he knows everything and yet you seem to think that you know everything

lurppis, I have followed you guys since youve been around and are by far my favorite team and are probably the most stable team in the world based on roster changes there has been for years. I dont see the point in arguing on a forum to people that are being redundant and don't understand how far off eswc is with their invites. Overall I think you guys will get in as one of these teams won't be able to attend even though you should already have your spot.

Lurppis, well, If you don't remember how k23 have beaten CC (Gameplay) *ass*, It's your mental problems. But I would like to fresh your memory . By the way, it was 4 months ago, Rekrut Championship which took place in Moscow and k23 have faced Gameplay. Do you remember who won this match? Yes, you are right, k23 did. Do you remember what was the score? k23 16 - 7 Gameplay. Go here sk-gaming.com/match/11919 and check it out. Also, lurppis, you were saying "k23 won a WCG in source, but have they ever even participated in another international tournament?" Let me answer to you regarding this question. k23 did participate in WCG 2008 in Germany. Let's take a look at top 8 teams of WCG 2008 rankings : 1. MTW. 2 Sk gaming. 3 Estro 4 CBTEAM. 5-8. Gravitas Gaming, k23, Gameplay, MYM. So, It wouldn't be right to say that CC will overtake k23. Please, stop hatting. Moreover, as I remember your team will be in KODE5 Spain. k23 will be there as well. If your team will get a chance to play versus k23, I'm pretty sure CC will be overtaking by them. So, Good luck

Since lurppis seems to be following this I hope I may be able to get answer. I'll be honest and say that I did and do not follow you guys very closely but from what I remember I read a lot about your teams being shattered. I know you were roccat, you were GamePlay and you are now Crack Clan. I guess between that you were just a sponsorless team. Anyhow, I believe that this may be the reason for the lack of an invite, the lack of consistency in your teams. Let me make an example. Let's say you'd be invited and you'd win the tournament. The news would say "Crack Clan wins ESWC" and Crack Clan would be in ESWC history for ever. Now let's say 2 months later your team disbands again and you guys go organisation-less. Crack Clan dissapears from the screens. People in the future will look at the ESCW history and say "Who the hell is Crack Clan!?" and people will only be able to say, well they're former GamePlay, who were former roccat and so on and so forth. Maybe that consistency of you staying within the same organisation for a longer period of time would make the difference.

That argument is ridiculous. The changing of organizations has been out of their control. Organizations like GamePlay made promises they were unable to live up to. The roster itself has probably been the most consistant roster in the world over the past 3 years, with minor roster changes do to inactivity. Hoorai - lurppis, plaste, nasu, conte, ruuit 69°N-28°E - lurppis, plaste, nasu, conte, ruuit Roccat - lurppis/tihOp, plaste, nasu, conte, ruuit GamePlay - tihOp, plaste, nasu, conte, ruuit CrackClan - lurppis, plaste, nasu, conte, SpikeOne That seems pretty damn consistant to me in terms of a team. If you do follow what has happened in the past the orginizations part due to financial issues. I don't get where their teams have been shattered. The only dumb thing they have done was when they cut plaste for like a week, but they got smart and brought him back quick.

Too bad someone censored the thread, as many users has said it rocked, wiggles said it was the most epic thread of the year, and yes it was a lot of fun reading!

There has been no censorship but flamming has been set to its end. As said in my previous message if users want to discuss the issue, fine. If someone is unable to do it in a respectful way (neither calling someone this or that, or starting flames) better not post at all.

Discussing in an aggressive way doesn't mean you flame, or whatever you call it, I just hate him and he hates me but we didn't do anything wrong.

We didn't mess it up, everyone liked what we did to it. :P Think that was the point with lurppis statement too, he wanted to make a big deal of it, and he did.

I don't see what the problem is here. CC & Gravitas are obviously better than Speeder, Immunity, Ultimax, TitaNs and x3o, but in the end it's ESWC staff's business who they want at their tournament and so forth. And at least like three of those teams will probably not be able to compete anyways, due to lack of funds, so honestly I think CC will get their spot anyways. If you'd stop changing the lineup all the time and instead focused on praccing you might actually make it to the top and these things wouldn't be a problem..

Calm down guyz :) Look lurppis, they've got reasons why they didn't called CC,and there's nothing u can do about it,they made their choice. My personal opinon is that u've got rly good team, and u should be invited 2 eswc, but what a hack,it's 2 l8 now :)All u have 2 do is concentrate on the incoming events, sit down and practice hard ;) It's not like this is the last eswc :) Don't worry,b happy :)

Best topic in hltv.org for a long time hahaha that lurppis just can't keep his mouth closed, and this can be as good as bad. btw this time I have to agree with him, but I must say that the roster changes since the old roccat + the sponsor changes fucked up the team pretty much. Ah and I miss ruuit.

The asian teams are probably chosen because the event is being held in Asia so the asian people have some teams to cheer for and to give the asian teams a chance to compete against some european teams but of course Gravitas Gaming should be invited instead of Evil Geniuses. I think this has a little to do with the organizations. If Gravitas line-up was playing for EG I think they would´ve been invited because ESWC rates EG higher than Gravitas for some reason, shouldn´t be like that and I hope it isn´t. If this event was held in Europe it would of course be most european teams participating. lurppis, I understand that you´re mad but there will be more events where you get a chance to pwn, just wait :)

Like lurppis said, there is only kode5 besides ESWC and they have to beat mTw to get there.

But ESWC stated that the invite was made on accomplishments, that's why they're upset. If they just would have said that they invited teams from Asia because this or that, noone would have made such a big deal about it.

Obviously organization changes/changing one player here and there doesn't have any effect on this, look at the other teams that were invited with roster changes. As I said a million times, EG got picked cause of GotFrag vote ranking that was made before they played their first match ever as a team, and ESWC said the teams are picked based on ACCOMPLISHMENTS, not based on having multiple teams from Asia/Oceania participate. If they would have said from the get go that they're inviting X amount of teams per continent it would have been different. And yeah, there may be more events but the way I see CS I play for the trips, I don't really want to go to Kode5, DreamHack or other events in middle Europe, this was basically the only event in the first 8-9 months of the year that we had a realistic chance of going to, that I wanted to attend. Every time at DreamHack & CeBIT we decide we're never coming back to this place, but in reality CS is so small you can't afford to miss events just cause you don't like the places/venues. If I looking at level of teams/prizes this is lower than Kode5 so it wouldn't be that bad to miss if that was what I wanted, but I just wanted to go to Korea =D
