Gambit defeat fnatic in Kiev; FaZe breeze past TyLoo

Gambit came from behind to defeat fnatic 2-1 in the first Swiss round at the StarSeries i-League Season 4, while FaZe made light work of TyLoo after two quick maps.

The big match of the second pair of fixtures began with Gambit almost overturning a 2v4 situation in the pistol round before Abay "HObbit" Khassenov was taken down in the decisive 1v1 confrontation. A botched third-round buy put the Kazakhstani team in a tough economic situation, but then they seemed to have picked up the pace as they twice brought the deficit to just two rounds.

It looked like the rest of the half would be keenly contested, but that was far from the case. fnatic kept their defence very tight and cruised to a 10-4 lead, with the final round going Gambit's way thanks to a quad-kill from Dauren "AdreN" Kystaubayev.

fnatic further added to their lead by taking the pistol round, with Robin "flusha" Rönnquist getting four kills to his name, but then they fell into Gambit's trap as they were caught off-guard by the CT's A stack.

That round breathed new life into the Gambit camp, but their dreams and hopes would be wiped out soon. A quad-kill from Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson, who ended the map with a 1.86 rating and an impressive 122 ADR, gave fnatic their first gun round of the half and propelled them to take the map without losing any more rounds.

Gambit lost the first map but turned the series around

Next up was Overpass, which began at a very high pace, with fnatic rallying back from a lost pistol round thanks to Jonas "Lekr0" Olofsson landing four Desert Eagle kills. Two rounds later, HObbit put Gambit back into the game with a 1v3 clutch, with that round sparking a great run from the CIS side, who would secure a 7-3 lead.

With the game slipping away from them, fnatic tightened up their defence and won three of the final five rounds of the half, one of them courtesy of a stunning 1v2 clutch from flusha.

Now playing on the CT side, Gambit simply ran away with the lead, winning seven rounds without response to seal an emphatic win and tie up the series at 1-1.

fnatic were out-classed on the last two maps

It all came down to Cache, which quickly turned into a bloodbath. After losing the pistol round, Gambit hit back on a force-buy following a quad-kill from Rustem "mou" Telepov. That marked the beginning of a phenomenal run from the Kazakhstani side, who would take 13 rounds into the second half after giving the Swedes very little room for manoeuvre throughout the half.

Things then went from bad to worse for fnatic as they lost the second half pistol round following an A play from Gambit, with Mihail "Dosia" Stolyarov picking up three quick kills. With no room for error, the Swedes hit back on a force-buy to keep their hopes alive. Even after watching their opponents reach match point, fnatic continued to fight valiantly, but they would collapse in the 27th round, in which a trio of AdreN kills sealed the deal for the new Gambit roster.

Meanwhile, FaZe, the current No.1 team in the world, locked horns with TYLOO in what turned out to be a one-sided affair. On Inferno, TYLOO only managed to break through FaZe's tight defence 11 rounds into the game and it was only thanks to a 1v2 clutch from their newest member Kevin "xccurate" Susanto. The remaining rounds of the half were extremely messy, but the Chinese side could only get one more round before the break.

FaZe piled more misery on TYLOO by taking the following pistol round with an A execution. With no money to work with, the Chinese team were simply helpless to keep their opponents from locking down the map.

TyLoo were no match for FaZe

Overpass followed the same trend as the first map as FaZe got off to a blazing fast start, taking six of the first seven rounds to put TYLOO in danger of getting blown out once again. The Asian team then scraped a few rounds, but as the half came to an end they were trailing their opponents 5-10.

FaZe remained in the driving seat in the second half and won five rounds right off the bat to hit match point. It was only then that TYLOO finally managed to get their first round of the half, but it merely delayed the inevitable defeat as the Europeans would lock down the map shortly afterwards.

Gambit will probably get rekt on cache the next time they play it. There's no way any other team allows seized to push A main that much. Here's a heatmap of seized on the ct-side. The dude was allowed to push A main 7 times and net 8 kills just from it and a shit ton of information. hltv.org/stats/matches/heatmap/mapstatsi..

I actually thought fnatic was better than this , so disappointed. Losing to fucking gambit in a bo3 like wtf i thought fnatic was saving strats for lan in those online games but it seems like they really are trash and were trying hard even in online. Fucking 7 months of practice already should be winning against teams like faze and sk and here they are getting fucked by a tier 2 team that made a change that too bringing in a guy like seized what a fucking joke lol
