coldzera: "summit was a tough tournament because we played too robotic"

The Brazilians started off the tournament in Kiev by taking on MVP PK. The series went on to be a 2-0, with the underdogs putting up a strong fight on the second map, Cobblestone, having a 9-6 lead after the Terrorist half.

We talked to Marcelo "⁠coldzera⁠" David following the game that saw SK go 1-0 in the Swiss system, and touched on cs_summit 2, Ricardo "⁠boltz⁠" Prass and SK's slow playstyle.

I wanted to start with the last tournament you had, cs_summit 2. You finished third there, how did it go from your perspective?

cs_summit 2 was a hard tournament for us, we are trying to fix some mistakes we had inside of the game, but we need to take a lot of time because the players are not too confident. We are working on this. For this tournament, we prepare much better than summit so I think right now we can show our game style.

One of the things that people noticed at cs_summit was that, statistically at least, boltz wasn't having a great tournament. And he wasn't with you at the Major, did that play into it, that he wasn't in form or used to playing at tournaments? His last event was ESL Pro League in December...

For us, it's hard, because we changed the playstyle when we played with felps at the Major, but we prepared with boltz. He didn't have a good tournament, but he is working better right now.

I think that we just need time to get better with the team, but from my perspective, no one had a good tournament at summit, everyone played really bad. However, for this tournament, we prepared better [as a team], and individually we are better prepared as well.

At summit and maybe here as well a bit, on the T side you displayed a slow playstyle, something that seems different from before. Is that something you are trying to add to your style, what is the thinking there?

For summit, our worst map was Inferno so we worked on a lot of strats, different strats, and we played more passive and more slow and tried to play more robotic. We practiced a lot of Inferno, and I think that when we practice that map we just do strats, strats, strats, we forget about our game style, we just hold and execute our ends of the rounds.

This tournament is a pretty stacked one, what are your thoughts on the tournament and what are your expectations here?

Our expectation is of course to win. It's good to see the Swiss format in a BO3 because now, the underdogs have to really be good to beat you. For me, the tournament is amazing with this format. I think that if you want to go to the playoffs you need to play better than all other teams. So the format is really good.

Let's touch on the second map here against MVP, they started pretty well on Cobblestone, I think it was a 9-6 half on the T-side. What are your thoughts on that, why were they giving you so much trouble?

They play really good on Cobblestone on T side, they have good strats and good flashbangs. Every time they went B, I and TACO would get blind for a millisecond, but in that millisecond someone would die. They played really good, they played a good style. They remind me a little bit of us, so I think they copied two or three of the strats that we do, but they played really good.
