Liquid take a 2-0 victory over Cloud9; Gambit eliminate TyLoo in Katowice

Liquid end up victorious in the North American derby despite a slow start (16-11 Inferno, 16-12 Overpass), while Gambit had a tough time against TyLoo, who they defeated in three maps (16-11 Inferno, 8-16 Overpass, 16-9 Cache).

Cloud9 started off the North American derby against Liquid by running up a big lead on the Counter-Terrorist side of Inferno. Timothy "autimatic" Ta scored an ace and made the score 7-0, after which his team went for a three AWP buy. Cloud9 lost that round, but recovered to make the score 9-1 and break Liquid's economy.

In an unlikely situation, Nick "nitr0" Cannella's team stole away a round on B with just upgraded pistols and started winning rounds which saw them finish the half with just a five round deficit (10-5). Liquid took the second pistol, and with the follow-up rounds going their way, things were starting looking scary for Cloud9 who not that long ago had a massive lead.

Liquid got the score back to 11-10 when Cloud9 won a force-buy on B to tie the score up again. However, just the following round, Tarik "tarik" Celik's team ran out of time to plant the bomb in a situation that looked likely to go their way. Cloud9's approach towards A in the ensuing round was easily shut down by Liquid, and their bank was broken (13-11). Liquid didn't look challenged in the last couple of rounds, and closed out Inferno 16-11.

NAF's second-half performance was key for Liquid on Inferno

Jake "Stewie2K" Yip and co. kicked off the Terrorist side of Overpass with a pistol round win, going up 4-0. Liquid then opted for a mixed-buy, balancing out their cash, and found success with it. Liquid managed to tie three rounds together then before Cloud9 replied with the same streak (7-3).

Similarly to Inferno, Liquid managed to recover a rough first half in the end, getting an 8-7 lead before switching to the Terrorist side. There they lost another pistol, which saw Cloud9 go up 11-9, however, Liquid then won an eco that got them back in the match.

The score  was tied 11-11 when a tactical timeout was called, and following it, Liquid bypassed the whole Cloud9 defence by pushing A long, getting the bombsite and the round for free.

In round 24, Lucas "steel" Lopes struck a fatal blow to Cloud9 by finding an entry kill on B, making the score 14-11. As his team got onto series point, Keith "NAF" Markovic opened up the round on Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham while his team broke into B to take Overpass 16-12.

In the first round lower-bracket match of group A, Gambit started off with a 5-0 lead as CTs on Inferno. Then Kevin "xccurate" Susanto and HaoWen "somebody" Xu won a 2v3 situation for their side and TYLOO started coming back into the game. With a successful A apps explosion in round 10, the Chinese team managed to tie the game at 5-5.

Gambit then won a force buy by stacking B and got up to eight rounds, but TYLOO managed to find a way back and tied three rounds together to finish the half just one round behind, 8-7. In the Terrorist pistol, Gambit hit B where only one player was defending, and despite an easy plant, Rustem "mou" Telepov still had to clutch against three low-HP players for his side to win it.

After cleaning up the anti-ecos, Gambit won a fast Mac-10 round on A, making the score 12-7. TYLOO starting locking things down shortly after, but Denis "seized" Kostin's 3K on the B site entry and Dauren "AdreN" Kystaubayev's ensuing 1v2 were the final nail in TYLOO's coffin, after which Gambit took the map 16-11.

Things were looking dicy for Gambit after losing Overpass and a poor start to Cache

On Overpass, Gambit's pick, the action started with seven rounds being traded back-to-back. Force buys were successful for both the CT side of TYLOO and the T side of Gambit until finally Hansel "BnTeT" Ferdinand with three kills and somebody with two gave TYLOO their first consecutive round. Gambit looked bleak after that, unable to do much on buy rounds and finished the half 11-4.

Abay "HObbit" Khassenov opened up the CT pistol with two kills, starting off a string of three round wins for his side and some rounds were traded back and forth before TYLOO reached a 14-8 lead. xccurate and co. then hit A and got three unanswered kills, which set them on route to close out Overpass 16-8.

TYLOO had an impeccable start to Cache, the decider map, going up 6-0 on the Terrorist side. Gambit finally got on the board after that, and avoided a reset by clutching tight rounds back-to-back. With mou topping the scoreboard, Gambit got back in the lead, finishing the CT side 8-7 up.

The Kazakhstani team took the Terrorist pistol, as well as the first buy round where they overwhelmed B, going 12-7 up. TYLOO earned their first CT round soon, but Gambit pushed them back and sealed the deal soon, securing a 16-9 win on Cache.

Yeah jdm inconsistency was just too unreliable, plus he was pretty useless without an awp in his hands, which in the long run would effect the team's eco. Many t rounds now they just play 5 AKs by choice, having an awp is extra 2k they have to spend to have a "full buy".

neither defending faze nor saying they didnt care but how the fuck would you know if they care? If you’re not a winner you’re a loser, and with the salary FaZe get im sure they get enough. Nevertheless its still a win for Liquid.

This is what I replied to..."3rd round playoffs that they didnt care about lmfao". He blatantly said they didn't care. I actually didn't say they cared. I said he's naive to think they don't care. Please work on your reading comprehension.

Yeah but how would you know if they didnt or did regardless of the fact that you know the ‘money difference’ between 3rd and 4th

as a liquid fan you must watch their games. Do you not see how many impact frags he gets and how he does alot of the dirty work setting up the stars, running in first etc.

For sure. I think it's a tough call. Steel may not be at the top end of the team but for sure he puts in work. It's funny how it always seems like he's going to get caught out but then somehow turns it into a quick 2 kills when it matters. Not saying I don't like him or dislike what he does but to kick the igl seems silly. I don't feel like Nitro has done bad enough to warrant that. I'm perfectly happy with the team as it is now.

oh yeah for sure i wouldnt add autimatic, i was just objecting against kicking steel. some people need to realise adding star players and different roles wont equal a superteam all the time. I honestly think Liquid can win this event. Good day to you mate

C9s mechanics seem so off these past 2 tournaments. They lose so many aim duels and miss so many easy shots. Meanwhile liquid is looking better than ever I think they can go far this tournament

Gg wp hopefully liquid could produce some good results because they spent a lot more money on this roster than c9 and finally started beating them consistently. Otherwise they will just kick another player and waste even more money because they never win tournaments

Not denying that just saying. Twistzz was an up and comer doubt it cost them a lot to pick him up, elige and nitro have been around a long time. Steel? That's a question mark for me, naf would be the costly one but to think it's anywhere near that... I dunno.
