NiP eliminate North in Katowice; fnatic beat FaZe for semi-final spot

North go out of the tournament as NiP beat them in three (Train 14-16, Inferno 16-11, Overpass 16-8), while fnatic manage a comfortable 2-0 upset over FaZe for a semi-final spot (Inferno 16-11, Cache 16-8).

After picking up a 4-1 lead at the start of the T side of Train, Ninjas in Pyjamas was overaggressive in a B site afterplant on which North pounced and started stringing rounds together. The score was tied at 4-4 when Valdemar "valde" Bjørn Vangså pulled of a 1v3 to get his team into the lead and the Danes continued that streak to go up 8-4.

Dennis "dennis" Edman stole the following round away with four AWP kills (8-5) and Ninjas in Pyjamas added one more before the switch to make it 9-6. Fredrik "REZ" Sterner stopped valde's clutch attempt in the pistol to get Ninjas in Pyjamas the much-needed good CT start, but North were dominant in the rifle rounds, soon finding themselves in 14-10 lead. Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg with the Deagle and William "draken" Sundin with the AWP saved them then and the score was soon once again tied, but North managed to win two frantic rounds on A to win Ninjas in Pyjamas's map pick 16-14.

NiP recovered the series after losing on their pick, Train

Ninjas in Pyjamas started Inferno poorly, with the only resistance they could put together early on being REZ single-handedly locking down banana on the first buy round, getting the ace. North still got a 6-1 lead, but then Ninjas in Pyjamas started bringing things back, with f0rest's crazy 4K from balcony proving pivotal in that regard (6-3). The Swedes tied it up the score at 6-6 before Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund and REZ locked won a B execute to finally take the lead, and they eventually finished the half 8-7 up.

North were clinical in the second pistol round, only losing one player, but none of that was seen in the next round and Ninjas in Pyjamas took the force buy to swing the game in their favor. The Swedes were soon 13-8 up when dennis's double-entry on short opened up the A bombsite, allowing Ninjas in Pyjamas to secure the afterplant easily and later on close out the game 16-11.

The start to the deciding map, Overpass, was a back-and-forth affair, but Ninjas in Pyjamas ended up on top and started adding rounds to the board. As the score was 6-1 in their favor, Ninjas in Pyjamas went for an aggressive mid play and shut down North before they could reach the fountain area. North then picked it up, adding their first round in a while and following it up shortly by exploding onto the B site.

As the Swedes' money started looking week, the Danish side started adding more and more rounds, with Daniel "mertz" Mertz clutching a 1v1 against the opposing AWPer to make it 8-6. The half ended 9-6 for Ninjas in Pyjamas, North won the pistol, but went down to the second consecutive force buy from the Swedes in the end. With that, it was 12-8 before North could afford their first buy, but GeT_RiGhT denied them that round with a 1v2 clutch.

draken made a big play to earn his team a chance to get onto map point after entries went North's way, while GeT_RiGhT and dennis clutched it out, eventually taking the 16-8 win on Overpass.

In the series that decided which team would go straight to the semi-final, Inferno was kicked off by FaZe grabbing the first two rounds on the defensive side before fnatic won against the leftover weaponry by recovering a 3v5. The Swedes went on to grab a 5-3 lead, but their momentum was broken by Finn "karrigan" Andersen who spearheaded a B retake and got two key kills.

When the score was 6-6 and FaZe was hoping to end the half on a high, they made a mess out of a 4v2 situation which Maikil "Golden" Selim and Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson turned on their heads, setting their team up for a 8-7 Terrorist half finish. The lead was advanced by a pistol round win, after which neither team could establish dominance for some time. fnatic finally tied four together, with KRIMZ making it 14-10 as he got a hat trick of frags. FaZe stole away a force buy before the end of the game, but fnatic was still able to close it 16-11.

fnatic secured three back-to-back wins and a place in the IEM Katowice 2018 semi-final

Following up on a strong Inferno, fnatic went on to grab a 7-0 lead on the Counter-Terrorist side of Cache, FaZe's map pick. The European mixture usually proved quite deadly on the offensive side, but this time, they were hitting a wall until round eight, finally adding one to the board. FaZe followed that with an A explosion and eventually broke fnatic's economy, making the score 7-4. karrigan's team looked better in the second half of their Terrorist side, but the Swedes mustered two force buy wins to make it 9-6 for the half.

Nikola "NiKo" Kovač and Håvard "rain" Nygaard got two apiece in the pistol to win the round, but no momentum was built as Jonas "Lekr0" Olofsson got a double entry with the Deagle, stealing away the following one. fnatic hit 13-7 before NiKo had a trademark Deagle round on A, securing three in total to earn FaZe their eight. fnatic instantly replied, though, as a B split worked perfectly and set Robin "flusha" Rönnquist and co. up for a 16-8 victory and a 2-0 score for the series.

fnatic were very persistent in their attempts to succeed without a true IGL after 2015. As you all know, they failed to achieve anything special since their 3-months dominant period. Then they finally gave up and picked a dedicated IGL. Yeah their results are inconsistent, but at least nowadays they can take maps off T1 teams, something that another ingameleaderless team (G2) hasn't been able to do for several months already. I'm saying this for those who want to replace karrigan with a regular fragger. If you think NiKo can successfully lead, recall how it didn't work in mouz - they showed nothing cool and NiKo's level expectedly dropped, because when a madfragger needs to focus more on what his teammates and opponents do and think of how his teammates should react on that, he can't get as many frags as he could when he was a regular rifler. I would rather replace olofmeister, e.g. with KRiMZ or s1mple, though I know it's pretty much impossible. rain should also fix his shit. His bad days are pretty rare but a team can't win when 3 players lose so much more duels than they win, but karrigan is their IGL and he's focused on what is going on on maps, while rain&olofm only job is to run and kill people. GeT_RiGhT should step it up, I feel like he's not really comfortable with what dennis&pita want him to do. I'm almost 100% sure NiP will win no big titles because dennis didn't like to call in the past and he doesn't seem like a guy that can make up complicated strats or efficiently counter-strat opponents, plus NiP kicked a mastermind called THREAT. May be a more loose style is what they want, something like mouz or C9 play, but they don't have enough of pure aim and consistency for that. aizy should do something too, I've no idea why MSL keeps him in the team so long. Playoffs prediction: Cloud9 > FaZe Liquid > NiP Astralis < Cloud9 Liquid > fnatic Cloud9 > Liquid

Cloud 9 will not win another title so soon. After the fluke that some people called Major they haven't shown anything impressive. FaZe should be able to take that match because of the raw firepower only. They lost today only cause of the off day that some players had and I don't see that happening again. Liquid vs NiP is a tricky one and it could go both ways. NiP have a new roster but have a greater firepower than Liquid. Liquid also doesn't have a dedicated awper which could cause a lot of problems against someone like Draken. So I'd give a slight edge to NiP in this match. Finals should be FaZe/Astralis vs Fnatic. Will be a very interesting game and I look forward to it.

Why are you giving so much credit to Karrigan? Guy got kicked out of Astralis and Astralis immediately won a major and rose as one of the best teams in the world until device's injury. Kicking Karrigan is one of the best move Astralis did. In Faze his man has THE MOST firepower compared to any pro team, yet they still couldn't establish that dominance they should have. If we assume what you said is right that 4 heavy hitters + an good IGL that doesn't need to frag is a good combination, then the failure of Faze either proves that Karrigan is a bad IGL or what you said is not true. In any case, Karrigan is dragging the team down.

The fact that Gla1ve picks up kills Karrigan couldn't immediately made Astralis a better team. Same thing goes to Fnatic after kicking pronax. They immediately swiped all the titles in 3 months until olof injured his hand. The thing about Karrigan is that he's not very good at ingame leading as well as fragging. If Faze were to replace someone, Karrigan would be the first to go. Whether or not there's a good replacement is another story.

Why are you underestimating the fact that Astralis didn't pick some nonamer or a regular rifler in place of karrigan? Astralis picked gla1ve, the guy that caused bad times to VeryGames and sometimes NiP when those two dominated the others. The guy already knew how to defeat top teams. I'm not overrating karrigan, I'm just stating the fact that there are no better IGLs available for FaZe at the moment. Don't even mention xizt xD FaZe pretty much have no options at all. And btw fnatic lost olofm and dennis, and guess what? They picked Golden who's a decent fragger at best, and they improved. Why? Because Golden turned out being a pretty good IGL. He's not a turned madfragger that thinks he can call (flusha, shox, NiKo), he's initially an IGL. I'm not saying that you should be an IGL from the very beginning otherwise you will never be good at calling, but NiKo should focus on what he does best - on madfragging.

I have no problem with replacing Karrigan with Krimz and make NiKo the IGL. That should make Faze a better team. And btw fnatic lost Pronax, the tactic master, brought in Dennis, and guess what? they won everything. Before Fnatic lost olof and dennis, olof went though that hand injury and he couldn't return to his old form. Also, the shuffle between Godsent also made the team environment pretty chaotic.

> That should make Faze a better team. It would only add more firepower, but strats-wise they would lose. Experiments sometimes work successfully, sometimes don't, if FaZe are ready to spend hundreds of thousand of dollars on something that can easily fail - then whatever, to me NiKo as an IGL is not an improvement for FaZe, whomever they pick, even s1mple. But in the end it's not my money, so it's up to FaZe. > brought in Dennis, and guess what? they won everything And guess what? After their 3-months dominating period they won NOTHING, 16 LAN events with dennis - 2 finals & 4 semis. That's why they kicked dennis, sold olofm and brought in a dedicated IGL, because flusha gave up. pronax is an example of a washed up IGL, think about Ex6TenZ & Happy.

"It would only add more firepower, but strats-wise they would lose." But if somebody could convert -20 to 0 or even +, that's 20 more frags. That single handedly could make a difference in the game.

Dennis picked up the slack from Pronax, fnatic immediately improved. How's that MM? Teams with so called "good IGL" and superior firepower but can't win shit. TSM,Astralis with Karrigan North with MSL Navi with Zeus Making NiKo the IGL and bring in another heavy hitter is def a + for FaZe. NiKo is a smart player. He could IGL for sure. They could run simple strats like fnatic in 2009 and still be effective.

flusha saw pronax' mistakes and knew how to fix them, that's why they had that sweet 3-months period after which they won nothing and made only 2 finals out of 16 offline events. Know why? Because flusha doesn't have enough of analyzing skills and creativity, he improved what pronax did but when he needed to make up something brand new and anti-strat his opponents he failed to, because his style was figured out and countered well. And it will never happen again because we have too many good teams: SK, Cloud9, Liquid, mouz, Astralis, with fnatic, Na`Vi, NiP being close to them, you may win 1 tournament like G2 but then you will get nothing for many months because your creativity suxx and because you can't make right conclusions out of what you see is happening with your opponents and your teammates. NiKo's style will be mostly run'n'gun, his own level will drop so olofm will not be able to suck, that's why it doesn't work this way, if you want FaZe to repeat Gambit's destiny go on, make NiKo call.

There is a tradeoff in every move. You essentially need to eliminate the enemy to win the game. Elimination of the enemy converts to frags. A good IGL could make other players more frag. A heavy hitter could pick up the slack that a IGL left. Let's say Karrigan make other 4 players frag 5 more. That's a total of 20. Let's say Krimz frag +10 in every game, converting a lot of Karrigan's -20 BO3 game into +10. That's +30. The team win more duels and convert more rounds. It can't be a bad thing. Golden and fnatic is improving that's right. FaZe is an incredible team as well, top 3 in the world. We are here talking to make FaZe a dominant force. FaZe could stay the same and still win tournament. When you have Raingod, Godian, Olofgod, Niko in a team, add any fifth you can win tournament from time to time for sure. Karrigan contribute to the team just like Golden does, but we are here finding ways to establish a era of dominance.

> add any fifth you can win tournament from time to time for sure Yeah right, because it's MM and having 5 madfraggers is the ultimate victory formula xD It never works in pro cs but it will definitely work in the case of FaZe. +10 frags here and there and babam xD You're missing one small thing: the other teams also have firepower and NiKo is not immortal, neither are rain, krimz, valde, shox and especially olofm.

yeah, kick Karrigan and FaZe are already left with no Strats, and the whole team becomes shit, like nobody can call XD just try to take out a single comment I made and attack as hard as you can, when you know i am exaggerating the super firepower FaZe possess, which is the essential reason we expect them to establish an era.

No, why? NiKo sets up his loose style like every other regular fragger did in the past, since they pick a solid fragger (gl buying one) it might work at some tournament, but then guess what? olofm still sucks, NiKo's s1mple strats get figured out and they start failing to get even to the quarters. The latest example of an IGL effect was Gambit - wow they won a major, but surely not because of Zeus, Zeus leaves - wow they still beat SK, and then BOOM - Gambit turns out being only a decent team without any chance to win anything again. 4 madfraggers + fitch/seized, what will they achieve? Nothing, not even a single final. But who needs them IGLs anyway, look at how successful is shox in the last SIX months after Malmo. Replace olofm with KRiMZ and karrigan with whoever else - k0nfig, valde, s1mple - they will win a couple of tournaments but nothing more, because guess what? SK, Cloud9, Liquid, fnatic, Astralis also know how to shoot, and apart from that FaZe will not have anything.

wow look at Navi with Zeus, winning a lot right? G2 at least wins Malmo. Replace Karrigan with Krimz, they can't win any tournaments, because guess what? FaZe can't make decisions anymore and they have 0 strat :D

Na`Vi has Edward that plays like a braindead and a ruski duo that can't be consistently good for at least a month. Gift them FalleN and they will still win nothing. Replace karrigan with krimz and they may fluke a tournament, then get figured out and win nothing more in the coming years.

If you can't figure out the relationship between strats and frags, we can't have this conversation anymore. Also you don't just play T side in CS.

Do they play aim_maps or what? Their individual aim skills don't mean much outside MM, because great aimers are countered by smart use of grenades and doublepeeking, watch pro cs please.

They are pros. Smarter use of grenades and doublepeeking could be achieved without Karrigan. You still have no knowledge abou the relationship between strats and frags, watch pro cs please. Watch Karrigan get abused please.

Wow you know so much about competitive cs, stupid FaZe bought karrigan although they could easily have made some regular fragger call and it would be the same xD You know they miss you on their analyst desks for so long.

Karrigan is a good piece on the market. I am just saying if FaZe were to replace anyone on the roster when the time comes or opportunity is available, it has to be Karrigan.

want me to do the same? >Yeah right, because it's MM and having 5 madfraggers is the ultimate victory formula xD There is a tradeoff in every move. You essentially need to eliminate the enemy to win the game. Elimination of the enemy converts to frags. A good IGL could make other players frag more. A heavy hitter could also pick up the slack that a IGL left. Let's say Karrigan make other 4 players frag 5 more. That's a total of 20. Let's say Krimz frag +10 in every game, converting a lot of Karrigan's -20 BO3 game into +10. That's +30. The team win more duels and convert more rounds.

not to mention how many rounds FaZe lost because the other team abuses Karrigan's site. Those are direct rounds lost simply cuz guy can't frag.

I am sure add Karrigan to fnatic, fnatic would still improve. fnatic simply has more room to improve because the team was doing awful. FaZe is top level already. To establish an era in the scene today, you can't have anyone slacking behind.

Rating is not the only stat you fuckboy tard, and he's the IGL with better stats. Also good don't talk about shit you have no clue about you see one stat and make your conclusion off that, Tarik is way more aggressive player and autimatic is a baiting pos trash player doing nothing as usual so stfu.

Good, everytime you type a message you show how little you know about the game. Just keep looking at the stats only cause you clearly do not even watch CS Go. Auti has slightly better rating and Tarik is the IGL of the team who has better stats in every important category you do realize right you can go compare their stats right now if you want. You can deny all the shit you want, you are retarded, one kid is passive baiting pos who dies way less per game which boosts his rating and the other is playing extremely aggressive and still doing better than him as the IGL as well, you're autistic if you're not baiting tbh or literally know nothing because you don't actually watch any games just look at rating and think you know everything about the game pathetic kid.

Ps. If you want stats to look at autimatic right now is the fifht best player in the world based off ratings at big events in the last 3 months. Good luck trying to decipher what that means. Tarik is 16th on that list.

If HLTV did a top 20 players of 2018 right now Tarik would be higher on the list I hope you know that right, auti slightly better rating vs Tarik MVP of Major that they won this isn't even a discussion anymore just you fanboying, I don't like either of them I'm just telling it how it is.

Its hard not to jump on the NIP hype train. I don't expect them to beat liquid, but if they go down with pride this event has been an overall success. get right sure looked shaky on train vs north but he got better and better as long as the game went on and he played a key role on overpass in the end. Have followed him for almost 12 years now and to see him win and scream out in frustration and releif at the same time is such a joy to watch.

dennis immediately made NiP better. Dude is the MVP, truly. Fnatic is the surprise of the tournament and pretty awesome to see them get back to form.

Draken played amazing... but he is so hit and miss! I hope dennis can bring him some stability! Also this just comfirms my disappointment that dennis wasnt bought by heroic. Taking him in instead of m0ddi or even snappi as igl would have been awesome.

Why? heroic is currently ranked higher than NIP, and jugi is far more stable than draken in any way. Yeah, rez is amazing, so is f0rest when it suits him... but the organisation around heroic is far superior to NIP, there is a reason they haven't had a big signing for years. Imo its just a question of when they establish themselves as a top 10 team, and dennis could have helped with that happening faster.

Heroic are only ranked higher because Xizt left NiP and tell me, who went out in groups and who made it to playoffs in Katowice? The level of skill on NiP is higher than on Heroic and NiP speaks Swedish while dennis would have to speak English in Heroic.

You have no idea about nordic language... it can work. And besides, heroic is at a breaking point. They have been doing consistently well, are starting to get invited to tournaments, and qualifying, and thus have attended the first 3 events after the major. Nip hasn't even qualified. Yeah, they did well now, because of dennis, not the core of the team. Your points have abosolutly no merrit. EDIT: My bad, NIP were at summit, they just sucked. :D
