hampus: "It's pretty hard [to break out], you need to find good people to play with"

We finished off the group stage with an interview with Hampus "hampus" Poser who led GODSENT to the playoffs of the WESG 2017 World Finals.

The Swedish team didn't have too many issues so far in the tournament, cruising through the first group stage and only losing to one of the favorites, Cloud9, in the second one. GODSENT made the playoffs with the second seed out of their group, and were drawn against Space Soldiers in the quarterfinals.

hampus is pretty happy about qualifying for ECS S5

Following GODSENT's match against Belgium, which they won 2-0, we talked to the young in-game leader about his path to his current squad and how it has been working so far.

I wanted to start a bit back, with you playing in passions and Red Reserve. You broke through a bit, reached top30, played some LAN tournaments. In the end it didn't work out, but can you give me an overview of how that team worked out for you as a player?

In Red Reserve we played with xajdish at the beginning and we played pretty good, we won vs NiP in the Minor Qualifier and we qualified for a LAN in Poland. But after a week with xajdish, the organization wanted to kick him to bring in Maikelele. So we switched to Maikelele, I don't know if I was too happy with that, but I guess it worked out since we played pretty good, got to the final in Poland, got the final in Valencia.

After Valencia we split up with Maikel, I don't really remember why, some weird, personal reasons I guess. After that we started playing with djL, who was our coach before. I guess we didn't get along so well in-game as we hoped we would do. So me and RuStY went and joined passions and the rest stayed in Red Reserve.

Is it hard breaking out in the Swedish scene as a new player?

I guess it's pretty hard, you need to find good people to play with. Me and RuStY, we played together for so long, in passions with different lineups all the time. You just need to find the right lineup to break through.

Were you always in-game leading, through all of those rosters, is that something you always wanted to do?

I have always in-game led, but I don't think I really wanted to do it. It's just that no one else wanted to, so I was like: "Why not?". But now actually I like it.

Tell me about joining GODSENT, how did that happen?

They asked me to help them at the WESG qualifier in Barcelona, and we got to the finals so I guess they liked me after that.

What is the style of play that you like to see the team play, how do you like it to work?

We play a lot together and we play pretty aggressively, that's the main thing. But also, if someone wants to do something, he can. And it works.

You recently qualified for ECS, I guess that's a big deal for you since it's your first big league you qualified for. Tell me about the feeling after getting that achievement.

It feels really good actually, GODSENT lost in ECS the season before, I think they only got two wins there, and now they qualified again. I'm really happy that we qualified, I hope that we get at least more than two wins this time.

What was the approach you had with the team coming to WESG?

We didn't prepare at all actually, we just played a lot of official games and we had to play MDL with a stand-in, we played with konshi and allu. And now [at WESG], we aim for top 4.

So far, how things have gone, you made it through the first two groupstages. Can you sum up the experience you had here at WESG?

The first group was pretty easy I must say, all of the games were pretty one-sided. The AGO game was supposed to be hard but I think we played pretty good and got a good momentum against them.

And in the second group we played Cloud9 in the first game and I think we should've won Train. We lost both pistols and with one pistol I think we would've won. And now versus MAX, I've never seen them before so I guess they are pretty unknown players. That was pretty easy, and now against Belgium it was rough in the beginning, but we solved it.

The draw is going to happen a bit later, is there anyone you would particularly like to avoid or draw?

Personally, I don't really care, but we played Space Soldiers a lot of times. It's nice to play them but it's also hard to play them, so I guess I would want to avoid them. I want to play fnatic, a Swedish quarter-final.

so does he have to have good teammates in order to play BEASTLY? is he a pure nub when he plays with nubby teammates? Something doesn't add up here. You dont need a good teammates in order to become a top player. You can be top player while even while losing.. Just see S1mple for example.

When s1mple broke out he was playing with WorldEdit and B1ad3. Those aren't bad teammates. It's hard to get noticed if you play on a shitty team. People call you an "onliner" or things like that. Look at Stewie2k, he was doing well on a bad team and everyone criticized cloud9 for signing him. Or look at ropz, he was playing really well online but all the good teams refused to sign him. Those two were lucky, because teams took a chance on them. In Sweden, there's only ever like 3-4 decent teams. And when teams like Fnatic are signing old players like Xizt instead of signing new talent, it's very hard to make it into a top team, no matter how good you are.

Nice with "new" fresh blood in th scene, and especially IGL's. They are needed. GODSENT can actually become something if they keep at, maybe not a constant top 10 team, but definitly a 10-15 team.

If only there were enough good swedes to make a team with Golden. I think NIP should kick someone (f0rest or Get_Right) and sign Golden.

He wants to play Fnatic? Is that just bravado or did he forget how bad their CT sides in particular got crushed by a T1 team?

There is no age restriction at ECS that would prevent Brollan from playing Good for GODSENT

Yeah with onliners like brollan. But low key I didnt know this guy was igl. If fnatic knew whats good for them they'd take him over the new bot they picked up.
