NRG qualify for IEM Sydney 2018

NRG are through to IEM Sydney 2018 with a 2-0 win over compLexity (16-10 on Cache and 16-9 on Nuke).

Earlier, the semifinals featured a tale of two upsets as Complexity and NRG beat OpTic and Liquid through all three maps to reach the grand final, while TeamOne, Torqued and Luminosity were swept in the previous round of the single-elimination bracket.

The grand final of the North American closed qualifier kicked off on Complexity’s map pick, Cache, where Pujan "FNS" Mehta and his men secured the pistol and the following anti-eco’s, thanks to back-to-back triple kills from Bradley "ANDROID" Fodor. NRG finally got on the board in their buy round when the squad practically walked into the B-bombsite for the plant, where Jacob "FugLy" Medina then held the post-plant with a triple kill. Complexity struggled to keep their economy afloat with several resets and saves that allowed NRG to take a two round lead, 5-3.

Complexity finally got on their feet with a double AWP set-up that cut the deficit within one, however, NRG returned with five straight before ANDROID settled the half with a triple kill, 10-5. Complexity continued their momentum with four straight right out of the gates, until three Deagle kills in mid from Ethan "Ethan" Arnold created a 4v1 situation for the CT-side to end the streak. NRG pressed on to pick up three more rounds, extending the lead to 14-9. From that point, Complexity were only able to pick up one more round before Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov’s double kill helped his team claim the series lead.

daps and co. are headed down under for IEM Sydney

The series then landed on Nuke, where Damian "daps" Steele and his men went straight down the vents to plant on B, however, Rory "dephh" Jackson was one step ahead and picked up two kills for the defuse to win the pistol. The following anti-eco went the way for Complexity, but another quick vent dive to lower saved the economy for NRG, who were able to buy in the next round to secure a win.

NRG went on to pick up four straight before dephh secured the 1v1 on the B-bombsite for the defuse. A back and forth affair was  going on for the remainder of the first half, though Complexity edged it with a 8-7 lead. The second half was all NRG on the CT-side as Complexity had very little economy to win more than one round. NRG pressed on to win seven straight in the series sweep to book their spot at IEM Sydney 2018.

It's a tournament in fucking Sydney you braindead fucktsrd obviously they will have more spots for Oceania. The whole point of such tournaments is to promote growth of regional scene.

No you fucking retard he is just saying that a tournament with such high skill teams shouldn't have their 2-3 Australian teams cuz that's like their 5 for the rest of the world and it has a prize pool of 250k or 200k

First: Yes, that need to have 3 aussie+asian teams. First: Develop local scene and give the oportunity to play in a big tournament. Second, and the more important: THEY NEED VIEWS. The timezone is bad for everyone out of asia. More asian teams can bring more people from asia watching It.

It's the only big tournament in the region mate, of course they're gonna have 6 spots for APAC teams, these people are closer and will be more likely to travel to see the event, which is more ticket sales, which is more money. It's probably mostly about economics.

Viewership affects it more tho. There wont be more than 3k people on a game like Corvidae - Tainted Minds. Meanwhile an elimination game that could be for example Gambit - EnvyUs would have at least 40k people. 37k for three hours, thats a lot of money from sponsors

The only non-deserved thing are the 3 qualifier spots for asian and 3 qualifier spots for australian teams LUL I would much prefer to see VP, NIP, G2, Gambit and Liquid over some t5 teams that will get 6 rounds in the whole tournament
