ESL announce CS:GO Women's Sydney Open

ESL have announced a four-team female competition for the Oceanic region with ~$7,700 prize pool on offer.

The tournament will be held at IEM Sydney's community stage on May 6. According to the rulebook, "only players considered female as per government-issued ID are eligible to enter the competition". In addition, they must be Australian and New Zealand residents at the age of 15-years-old or higher.

After attending CPH Games female event in 2017, ARTeMis' team is eager to compete

ESEA will host two open qualifiers on April 18-19 with the top two teams of each qualifier moving on to the main event at Qudos Bank Arena. The qualified teams will receive "$1,500 AUD travel stipend towards their transport and accommodation costs". Any costs beyond that amount will not be covered by ESL Australia.

"The ESL Women’s Sydney Open is a fantastic opportunity for our local players to showcase their skills in front of the most passionate audience in esports at the Community Stage at IEM Sydney. For ESL Australia, this announcement marks the beginning of a commitment for our team to develop more opportunities for women in esports.”

- Nick Vanzetti, Managing Director of ESL Australia.

Female teams from the Oceanic region can sign up for the online qualifiers below:

The prize pool of $10,000 AUD (~$7,700) will be distributed in the following way:

1. $6,000 AUD (~$4,610)
2. $2,000 AUD (~$1,540)
3-4. $1,000 AUD (~$770)
3-4. $1,000 AUD (~$770)

Think of the crowds the players bring to the stadium/ stream. For example FaZe, Fnatic, SK, C9 all bring a higher crowd number because they are established in the scene and are highly respected as well. Whereas no name grills are not a big draw card to attend the event.

did u see a grill in fpl? i didn't. It's not about crowd or respect, we don't have enough skilled female pros. RES is the best female team, but they are only 10lvl faceit and that's all.(mimi wasn't even close to fpl when she played an fpl-c) LUL

just googled around - she was tied 1st and would've probably qualified if she didn't play for the rest of the day. She played another game and lost it, so fell off being 1st place. She's probably the closest to actual semi-pro/pro male level players out there

Great, another tournament where every single team attending will have 0% of evolution on their level. Girls will only play better if they keep playing vs men CONSTANTLY, getting trashed lots of times, until they realize what they're doing wrong. It's like a white-belt tournament only.

why they dont they just qualify and play the male tournament? :) its 2018, year of equality and emancipation. otherwise i will demand a male only tournament as well. that's some straight discrimination to host a mixed tournament and a female only one in 2018. thats 2017 shit. like that just a waste of prize money
2018-04-05 09:48

Waste of money once again. This makes the same sense as separating men and women in chess which is also bullshit.

Its not bullshit actually, men are smarter and dumber than females, females are more average, men are the extremes. The biggest geniussus are men, but the biggest morons are too. The mind of a woman works different than that of a man. I will only accept female-only tournaments when it's also accepted that men and women are not the same ;)

Honestly, participating in main tournament qualifiers first should be the obligatory requirement to even get to female tournament qualifiers. They wont progress at all if they avoid playing vs best which they have been clearly doing for years while whining bout equality and other shit

In my opinion this categories split is too unfair to the women. Let them play against the guys. It doesn't matter if it's gonna be a girl only team or if they'll be able to mix both genres. But this shitty prize pool is what prevents them from living exclusively from cs.
