North to DreamHack Tours grand final after beating Gambit

North have booked their spot in the grand final of DreamHack Open Tours with a 2-1 victory over Gambit (13-16 on Train, 16-11 on Dust2 and 16-5 on Overpass).

The series kicked off on Train, Gambit's map pick, with North winning their CT pistol in convincing fashion. Gambit responded well in a force-buy, however, and eventually hit the four-round mark thanks to a 1v2 clutch from Rustem "mou" Telepov.

North responded with a successful CZ-buy, and put together a small run of rounds to restore parity at 5-5. But Gambit were unfazed and regained control of proceedings to close out the half with a 9-6 lead.

In the second half, Denis "seized" Kostin's men increased their lead to 12-6 after picking up a near-flawless pistol round. North responded competently with a five-round winning streak to bring the deficit to a sole round, but Gambit did not lose their composure, losing only two more rounds before closing out the map, 16-13.

North will take on the winner of GODSENT vs. HellRaisers

On Dust2, North's map pick, Gambit started out as Terrorists and with a quick 3-0 lead. North won the first gun round in a 4v5 retake that saw Philip "aizy" Aistrup find a triple-kill, but Gambit instantly countered them in the next round.

After North had equalized the score at 4-4, Gambit got back to winning ways by stringing three rounds together. Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen's men did not stop believing, and, despite another anti-eco round, still managed to reduce the deficit to 7-8.

Now playing on the T-side, aizy nearly pulled off a 1v3 clutch in the pistol round, but Mihail "Dosia" Stolyarov denied the 21-year-old at the last second. Still, North won their force-buy with double-kills from MSL and aizy, inspiring the Danes to go up 10-9.

After building up their economy, Gambit still tried to get back in the game, but their efforts were in vain as North would go on to close out the map with a four-round streak.

mertz led the way for North with a 1.18 rating

The deciding map, Overpass, began with aizy picking up the T-side pistol for his team with a 1v3 post-plant clutch. Three rounds later, it was aizy's time to shine as he found three opponents to help his team to remain in the driving seat.

North kept running over the defence, eventually forcing Gambit to call a tactical pause in the ninth round. That did not stop the Danish squad, who saw Daniel "mertz" Mertz clutch a 1v2 post-plant situation, but then the Kazakhstani-Russian side were finally able to respond with their first two rounds on the board.

Gambit could not follow that up, however, as North upped the tempo and secured a dominant 13-2 half-time lead. Gambit still tried to mount a comeback in the second half after winning the pistol round and the subsequent anti-ecos, but North would not let that happen, stringing three rounds together en-route to a 16-5 finish.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to be a North fan. Their playstyle is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of MSL's strats will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also aizy's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from whimp's literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike valde & Kjaerbye truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in mertz's existential catchphrase "300 hz" which itself is a cryptic reference to mertz' insane deagle skills. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as ave's genius wit unfolds itself on their Facebook livestreams. What fools.. how I pity them. :joy: And yes, by the way, i DO have a North tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid :sunglasses:
