StarSeries i-League Season 5NiP and GODSENT win their StarSeries i-League Season 5 openers in Kiev
Both Swedish teams playing the last round of the day started off on the right foot in Kiev as NiP beat HellRaisers in two maps and GODSENT won their opener against Renegades with two 16-3's.
The match between HellRaisers and Ninjas in Pyjamas kicked off on Overpass, the Swedes taking the lead after the pistol round. With 3-0 on the board, the teams traded rounds, with Fredrik "REZ" Sterner getting a triple in the seventh round and Özgür "woxic" Eker returning the triple in the ninth. Vladyslav "bondik" Nechyporchuk then got a triple with the UMP in toilets and finished off the last round of the half with one more kill to make it a quad and close the gap, 6-9.
HellRaisers then ran straight into Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg who got two entries on B in the second pistol round, which Dennis "dennis" Edman followed up with a double of his own to secure their lead. Kyrylo "ANGE1" Karasiow & co. won the forcebuy thanks to a great play by woxic who downed four, bringing the scoreboard back to within three and resetting Ninjas in Pyjamas’s economy. HellRaisers went on a streak, taking the lead 13-11, but a five round run late in the map by Ninjas in Pyjamas closed it out, giving the Swedes the lead after their pick.
The second map started off with Ninjas in Pyjamas once again taking the pistol round on the attacking side thanks to a 1vs3 clutch by Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund, but they lost the follow-up going down 1-3 before the first gun round. With 2-4 on the board, Ninjas in Pyjamas tried an A rush, but were quickly downed by bondik. After that, HellRaisers took control and won the half out 10-5.
Two great entries by William "draken" Sundin, who held his own in jungle until the rotation came on the second pistol round, helped push the Swedes closer to HellRaisers, although a plant meant the latter would be able to buy after only one eco. f0rest, pushing underground, flanked a B push from the terrorists and getting three kills bagged the first gun round for his team. HellRaisers were able force Ninjas in Pyjamas on a pistol buy and an eco, getting ahead 13-9, but Ninjas in Pyjamas started to build momentum to make the comeback. The Swedes did in fact crawl back all the way to match point, but two heroic rounds by HellRaisers took it to overtime.
The first round of overtime saw woxic with two kills on B trying to clutch, but was unable to clutch it out with two Ninjas in Pyjamas players remaining. The following round also ended up on B, but this time with HellRaisers coming out above thanks to doubles by Issa "ISSAA" Murad and ANGE1. Having won the last round on the CT side, Ninjas in Pyjamas got within on after winning the first round on the attack. Despite giving one up, the Swedes were able to close it out and take their first win of the tournament.

A play on A by GODSENT on Renegades’ pick, Inferno, gave them the first round as Simon "twist" Eliasson and Hampus "hampus" Poser were able to win a 2vs2 afterplant. With 3-0 on the board, the first gun round went the way of Renegades, as Karlo "USTILO" Pivac with a triple and Aaron "AZR" Ward with a double stopped the Swedes in their tracks. Able to win the following round, GODSENT quickly started to run away with the half, going up 7-1 and decimating Renegades’ economy several times, who were able to win one more round but were once again reset, making for a one-sided half that ended 12-3.
The second half of the map saw the CTs take the pistol round as hampus and Fredrik "freddieb" Buö got five headshots making it a clean round for their team. Having won the anti-ecos, GODSENT closed it out without giving another round up, 16-3.
The second map, Overpass, started with a quad-kill by Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad in the pistol round that gave the lead to Renegades, but GODSENT won the forcebuy in the second round. Joakim "disco doplan" Gidetun then broke Renegades economically, making it 3-1 and increasing his team’s lead. Once again GODSENT was on another level, taking it to 9-1 after ten rounds, and then closing out the half giving up only one more round, 13-2.
The second pistol round also went the way of Renegades, but once again GODSENT broke them winning the forcebuy and planting on A, closing out the second map as one-sidedly as they did the first one, 16-3.
