North, AVANGAR beat HellRaisers, GODSENT; go 2-1 at StarSeries

North and AVANGAR have moved into the 2-1 pool at StarSeries i-League Season 5 after defeating HellRaisers and GODSENT, respectively.

The second series of the day on the main stream was a rematch of the DreamHack Open Tours grand final, between North and HellRaisers. It kicked off on the latter's map pick, Train, with Kyrylo "ANGE1" Karasiow's men cruising to a 5-0 lead as Terrorists.

North responded with a strong defence to restore parity at 5-5. HellRaisers won the next round with a near-flawless execution, but then a quad-kill from Valdemar "valde" Bjørn Vangså marked the start of a great run from North, who would close out the half with a 9-6 lead.

Now playing as Terrorists, North further added to their lead with another four-round streak. Özgür "woxic" Eker and co. still attempted a response, but they simply could not find a way to halt North, who would lose just one more round before locking down the map.

North are now 2-1 in Kiev

North began their map pick, Mirage, on the right foot, securing a 2-0 lead after winning their CT pistol. HellRaisers responded in a third-round buy, which they followed up with four more rounds.

Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen then called for tactical pause, after which North won their third round, but that did little to stop HellRaisers, who would bring the scoreline to a 10-3 advantage. Still, North would bring the deficit to five rounds by the end of the half with back-to-back triple-kills from valde and MSL.

HellRaisers won their second pistol of the series to hit 11 rounds, but they could not prevail against North's force-buy, with the Danes going on another great run to cut the gap to two rounds. HellRaisers responded to get their 12th round on the board, but MSL broke their economy after coming out on top of a chaotic 1v2 situation.

HellRaisers still tried to get back in the game, but any round that went their way was immediately countered by North, who would go on to take the map in the 30th round.

Starting out as Terrorists on their map pick, Overpass, GODSENT showed great composure after winning the pistol, losing just the first gun round to secure a 5-1 lead. AVANGAR nearly got their second round on the board in the sixth round, but Simon "twist" Eliasson denied them with a 1v3 post-plant clutch.

After building up their economy, AVANGAR strung three rounds together to reduce the deficit to 4-6. GODSENT responded with a successful 2v3 clutch from Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin and Joakim "disco doplan" Gidetun, but, as AVANGAR instantly reset their economy, the Kazakhstani squad went on to take the lead in the half, 8-7.

Brollan opened up the action in the second half with a quad-kill, which GODSENT followed up with four more rounds to bag a 12-8 lead. Both teams then traded rounds back-to-back, but AVANGAR's efforts did not pay off as GODSENT proceeded to win three rounds in a row, closing out the map with a 16-10 score.

AVANGAR are one victory away from the playoffs

AVANGAR got off to a flying start on their map pick, Cache, after securing their T-side pistol with a 1v2 clutch from Timur "buster" Tulepov. Although GODSENT won the gun round, they could not stop AVANGAR from reaching a 6-1 lead.

The Swedes still tightened up their defence, reducing the deficit to just two rounds, but then another 1v2 clutch from buster marked the beginning of a great run from AVANGAR, who did not concede any more rounds until half-time, 11-4.

In the second half, AVANGAR stopped GODSENT's A execution in the pistol with double-kills from buster and Dzhami "Jame" Ali, and then followed that up with a perfect CT-side to take the series to a third map.

KrizzeN had an impressive performance on Cache with a 1.71 rating

Mirage, the decider map, kicked off with AVANGAR picking up their CT pistol, but failing to capitalize on that. GODSENT countered them in a force-buy to take control of proceedings, 3-1, but the Kazakhs shut down the offence by stringing together the next six rounds.

That was when GODSENT got back on the board on a shoddy pistol buy, but AVANGAR were in charge and lost only one more to go up 10-5 by half-time.

Just like in the first half, AVANGAR won the second pistol but could not follow that up. This time around, however, GODSENT did not let their opponents have any map control, winning seven straight rounds to grab a slight 12-11 lead.

AVANGAR then equalized the score, to which GODSENT responded with Brollan coming up huge with a quad-kill to win a 2v4 post-plant situation. Nevertheless, AVANGAR remained calm and collected, breaking through the defence for four rounds in a row to run out 16-13 victors.

This event... Who is interested in watching the Chinese teams (apart from China citizens), AGO (apart from Polaks), AVANGAR (apart from Kazakhs), NRG, GODSENT? This is the 3rd day and we have only 1 good matchup: SK vs Liquid. Virtus.Pro against Na`Vi is interesting for 1.6-nostalgic people, the rest are interesting only for those who have plenty of free time that they have no idea how to spend.

I see no point in watching a good team that you're not a fan of playing against some T3-T4 opposition, even if you're a fan of let's say Liquid - what's the point of watching them playing against let's say GODSENT?

or may be it's you who are stupid enough to call obviously not tier1 teams "tier1" and calling 2-0 groupstage matches close as if a t1 team would try hard and use all strats to beat some nonamers

acc. to u, a csgo fan should also watch matches like Windigo - Fragsters? then i feel sorry for those "fans" a match may be interesting or not, it depends on the both teams players' level, and it's weird to watch a match of 2 gold nova teams just because they play csgo
