kioShiMa: "The players removed Happy from the roster"

Former Envy player Fabien "⁠kioShiMa⁠" Fiey has revealed that in-game leader Vincent "⁠Happy⁠" Schopenhauer had been removed from the roster ahead of the CS:GO Asia Championships.

Happy played no part in the Chinese event, with his role assumed by kioShiMa, who would lead the team, featuring Alexandre "⁠xms⁠" Forté and Christophe "⁠SIXER⁠" Xia as stand-ins, to a semi-final appearance in Shanghai.

In a Twitlonger post that was originally meant to be released before the event, kioShiMa sheds some light on the issues that his team faced since his return, in February.

kioShiMa opens up about the team's struggles

The 23-year-old revealed that he the atmosphere in the team "was not healthy for building great teamplay", adding that the majority of the players "did not agree with the playstyle" or with how they were being used in-game.

"We tried as a team many things to make EnVyUs a better team, kioShiMa wrote.

"We tried to follow the in-game leader's way and nothing else, we tried to share the decisions, we swapped roles, we had many discussions as a team to try to solve what was wrong, but we never managed to really find out the issue."

Shortly before the crucial ESL Pro League relegation stage, Envy parted ways with coach Damien "⁠maLeK⁠" Marcel, who, according to kioShiMa, "was getting in conflicts with how the in-game leader was seeing the game". The move, however, did little to change the fortune of the team, who would be relegated to ESEA Premier.

"It was not great, we did not really improve, everything was the same, the players felt like we were not being used to our full potential, we felt forced to do stuff we did not agree on, the chemistry was not there at all," kioShiMa added.

"Even with those problems, we gave ourselves one last shot at DH Tours, but everyone knew that it could be our last tournament as a team.

"The struggle had been going on for too long and we could not see a way out of it without making any changes or something drastic."

The former FaZe member then addressed the line-up changes before the CS:GO Asia Championships, which had not been explained by EnVyUs or by anyone in the team.

kioShiMa revealed that "the players decided to remove Happy from the roster for being to some degree part of" the issues that the team were facing. He also noted that Cédric "⁠RpK⁠" Guipouy skipped the event to "have a small break after all this fighting within the team."

"The reason I am taking the role of IGL is mainly to show the others how it could be without Happy," he explained.

"All the players have had the same IGL for a while now and do not know what it is like to play under another one."

kioShiMa did not disclose what will happen now to the team, after EnVyUs pulled the plug on their squads following a series of "performances that really were not up to par with our history in the game."

ScreaM played pretty well in Kinguin, Titan, amazing in early G2, pretty much every time he was in pro scene when he came back until he joined nV Happy killed his motivation for sure

I can easily imagine Kio being a great leader of a team as a whole. But whether he is a good IGL, I have no idea about.

I honestly just think it was a case of letting the players off the leash at the CAC event. Happy is such a restrictive IGL, I think he would work with less good players but guys like scream and K1o just need to be allowed to go open up sites.

Scream at the begining was performing really well( against g2 for example) , Kio for his first few match after his comeback too. But they can't stay motivated more than few weeks , there is the reason, you will see it very fast. Kioshima will never lead a team to some big results like happy did , and shox a little

You can't prove your IGL capabilities that quickly. Takes a year and couple of different lineups to see if he has what it takes. But yes, promising start.. which may, or may not, be honeymoon effect. We will see. I dont think its possible to be worse than happy last two years.

Kioshima is a piece of shit. He is motivated , like scream, for 2 or two months when he start a project and then underperform for the rest of the time. He just made a twitlonger saying "Hey look i'm the solution, happy is the problem" but he got his best result under his lead. THe lead during the last tournement in china was not better, they just got 5 players very motivated for differents reasons and the result wast just average, only beating low level team. He forgot really quick that Envyus was underperforming but still a lot better before his comeback

Happy has never been a good igl, only average, and his performance and strategy has only dropped off in the past year or two, they needed a change in leadership as the team has much more potential than what they are puting out, and the lack of motivation recently was most likely because of the disagreements and restraints put on them during each game and the underperformance due to the poor results

Lol, this drama is getting better and better :) Personally i'm on Kio's side, i don't think he was the problem at the beginning and now it's up to him to show how can he be a good IGL if they would make a new team, anyway he prowed not to be a problem while he was in Faze, so now he only has to prove his current words that he's better IGL than Happy, which i hope he is. Anyway, it's nice that EnvyUs didn't held the players behind contracts to sell them and recoup some of the money put into paying them salaries. Not unexpected, Happy was never a great IGL, hes a one trick pony leaderwise and if he does not have strict role players hes system wont work. You cant put players like Scream and K1o in strict roles like others said they need freedom to excel and Happys system does not allow freedom. The funny thing is that that style does not really work in this meta anyways, all players need to be able to do everything if you are gonna succeed in the current state and that is why teams like Astralis have grown as a team when combining their structure with more free defaults.
