ESL One Cologne playoffs to follow scheduled starting times

ESL One Cologne will stick to the scheduled starting times for the playoff matches, the event's organisers have revealed.

This means that, even if a match ends earlier than expected (after just two quick maps, for example), the starting time for the following match-up will not be brought forward.

On the event's official website, ESL explains that the decision was based on "feedback from viewers that were taken by surprise when they missed a game because it started earlier than scheduled."

ESL One Cologne will run from July 3-9, with the playoffs being held in front of an audience at the Lanxess Arena. Sixteen teams from all over the world will be taking part in this tournament, which will have $300,000 on the line.

Maybe they should begin to start matches on time instead of delaying them even further.

I suggest to also stick to the schedule and stop making us watch your analyst desk for 15-20 minutes instead of watching the match. Like if you specify the start time - stick to it, it's the time when the match should start.

This. In theory, should be the rule. In practice will be totally different (if they don't schedule like 4 hours 30 minutes for a single BO3 or another super long retarded time) : if the BO3 gets super close and long (3 maps with 30+ rounds), next game will be late anyway.

This. And when a game will be super long, super close (3 maps with (multiple) overtime(s)) it will take too long for the schedule (if they don't schedule something retarded like 4 hours 30 minutes for a single BO3) and next game will be delayed anyway.

Pretty much. Ridiculous decision given they have no TV schedules to conform to or anything like that. I also watch from NA, if I'm lucky sometimes I'll get a chance to watch my favorite teams play because they can start ahead of schedule and the game would start around 1am instead of 3am. So if they think they can increase the amount of viewers by having a lot of people wait for a game in the middle of the night they are going to have a hard reality check. Nobody likes to watch the countdown screen with their awful music selection for hours.

They may "save" some casual viewers (wanting to watch a single game of the team they're fan of, in this case the schedule will help them), but the average watcher (who wants to watch multiple games in a row) will definitely suffer from having to wait (sometimes 1+ hour) between 2 games because previous one was a stomp.
