Gambit pull out of ESEA MDL

Gambit have withdrawn from ESEA MDL with immediate effect, a league official has confirmed to HLTV.org.

The PGL Major Krakow champions leave MDL after just eight matches in order to focus on their upcoming offline events, according to ESEA.

Gambit were sitting in 21st place in the league, with a 3-5 record, and had a triple-header of games scheduled for today, against EURONICS, FriendlyFire and PRIDE.

Gambit leave ESEA MDL to focus on their next events

With this decision, Gambit will be removed from the league at the end of the season and sent down to the Open division. However, there is still a chance that they can claim a spot in one of the higher divisions (Main, Intermediate or Advanced) via a process similar to the invitation system that was in place this season.

Gambit are currently preparing for ESL One Cologne, with their first match pitting them against MOUZ. The Kazakhstani team have two offline tournaments scheduled for August, IEM Shanghai and DreamHack Masters Stockholm.

what are u talking about? They were good some days ago, on ESL quals. 11 hours in a row playing and they won it. So, thair desition is good so far. They will not throw unimportant games on esea enymore.

well true having the league at all without EPL promotion is just pointless. Sure you can win a bit of money but then they could also just hold a small LAN outside of the league system or just have a larger prizepool in the promotion seasons.

It's not just that, it's a slump and Gambit chose to make an incredibly bold decision because of it. Gambit are Major Champions and have proved time and time again they can beat the best teams provided everyone turns up. mir hasn't been in the team long, so boycotting to grind for Cologne might be the bets course of action, albeit an incredibly controversial one.

obviously Gambit has wide variety of upcoming tournaments , i think that was a good decision to make new way up for Mir and co. Instead of wasting time agaisnt tier 40 teams they have fully decided to take better tournaments.

Indeed. We'll see if Gambit has success out of this decision. They would need to make Quarters or higher for this to be a credible decision of surmountable success, in my opinion.

Yes true... But I also just saw that this MDL season ends on July 22nd while the major will start in early September, meaning there is over a month between their last MDL game and the Major... Sure there are two events in August but I just don't get what not playing these games is doing for them... Honestly almost seems like a move to not get embarrassed by Tier 3 teams over and over again.

Gambit wanted to withdraw from the tournament long time ago, but couldn't because of contract! They wanna focus on trainings and in this tournament haven't played serious. They more focused on upcoming events!
