Presenting 'HLTV Confirmed' Episode 2

The second episode of our new show 'HLTV Confirmed' is up on our Twitch channel, this time focusing on the new MIBR roster and the brand's legacy.

In the second instalment of HLTV Confirmed, your host Lars 'Yossarian' Esmarch takes a look at the history behind the legendary Brazilian team Made in Brazil (MIBR). The show will feature interviews with Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo and Marcelo "coldzera" David, who, along with Fernando "fer" Alvarenga, Ricardo "boltz" Prass and Jake "Stewie2K" Yip moved from the old SK roster to revive the famed brand under the Immortals organisation.

Two legendary 1.6 players in the form of Danny "zonic" Sørensen and Alexander "ave" Holdt show up in the episode, sharing their thoughts on playing against the old MIBR lineups.

FalleN opens up about reviving MIBR in the second episode

The episode also features a look at the key storylines to watch out for at ESL One Cologne 2018 in a preview with HLTV.org's Zvonimir 'Professeur' Burazin, who will be our staff writer at the German event.

I've been playing cs since 1.3 and Mira is very wrong about internet problems in Brazil at least for São Paulo (where most of the brazilian talents come) and Rio. Back to 2002-2003 he had Netrangers who provides a dedicated server with ping above 20 for these states. We usually have lower bandwidth and more expensive one (compared to EU) but we always had good latency that is what is most important for gaming. I think at 2005 almost all good neighboors have optical fibre. From what I have seem from rank S streams we had better connections back in 2003 in São Paulo than most of american pro players are having now (maybe duo to the server being to far from their location?). Fallen do not leave in the center so you have longer distance to travel and t the latency is bigger. But FNX and BIT was playing for the online team WF since 1.3 and the former MIBR guys had a dedicated lan house in the shopping with ping almost 0 since it's was direct in the backbone.

Fiber around 2005 in Brazil? Not even close... NET was offering 2 to 8 Mbps on cable in 2005, it would take another 5 years to reach 60 and only this past 2 years some areas are getting actual fiber (FTTH). The problem was more of distances, for traveling and also internet. Kids didn't have the money to travel to lan events, so it was always localized events. Online events also suffered from the distances as ping can't be the same if team A is 3 times farther away from the server as team B, and most servers were in one or two locations. NA also suffered from this and teams would often find a middle ground location to host their matches... And, of course, they couldn't practice with euro teams due to high ping. Even today with FTTH the latency to play from Brazil in a NA or EU server is just too big. With 100/60 FTTH (Rio de Janeiro) i see usually 130 to 200 ping to the US.

At 2005 you don't have FTTH from the main telecom companies but you have that with the small ones (Predialnet in my case). You should take a note that even if you haven't fiber to your room they must probably had it in a node at your building or very near if you live in a metropolis. Even good ADSL connections and cable had good latency (< 30). Ask to someone who played competitive leagues at Quakenet in the beginning of CS 1.6 or earlier.

Awesome episode! The skypeinterviews worked surprisingly well. And cool to attack the subject from a number of different angles. Looked a bit weird that the "headlines" were presented in a box overlapping 90% of the screen where you could still see Youssarian behind it, but only the very top and bottom :D Looking forward to next episode!
