Cloud9 add Golden for ELEAGUE Premier; STYKO remains stand-in

Cloud9 have confirmed that Maikil "⁠Golden⁠" Selim and Martin "⁠STYKO⁠" Styk will be playing for the team as stand-ins at ELEAGUE Premier.

This will be the second tournament that STYKO will attend with Cloud9, after the MOUZ player filled in for the North American side at ESL One Cologne, where the team went out in the groups following defeats to Astralis and Natus Vincere.

Golden's temporary addition comes just days after Cloud9 lost Tarik "⁠tarik⁠" Celik to MIBR, leaving the team with a three-man active roster as Pujan "⁠FNS⁠" Mehta remains transfer listed.

Golden will lead Cloud9 in Atlanta

The Swedish player is currently assessing his options after being benched by fnatic in the aftermath of William "⁠draken⁠" Sundin's signing from Ninjas in Pyjamas.

Originally a member of fnatic Academy, Golden was promoted to the organisation's main squad in August 2017 and led the team to victories at IEM Katowice and at the WESG Finals, and to deep runs at the ESL Pro League Season 6 Finals, ECS Season 4 Finals and DreamHack Masters Marseille.

ELEAGUE Premier will run from July 21-29 at the G-FUEL Arena, in Atlanta, with eight teams set to duke it out for $1 million in prize money. Cloud9 have been drawn in Group A, alongside Astralis, Liquid and MIBR, with their first match in the tournament pitting them against the current No1. team in the world.

C9 with slemmy was worse imo. Atleast with semphis in the early days they were good. Imo he best C9 roster was Sgares, N0thing,Shroud,Freakazoid, and skadoodle. I think if his C9 roster adds a new awper and replaces styko with a fragger like sick or some other good fragger they can be good. They will also have a leader that has played against teams like faze and NaVi and astralis unlike FNS who has only played against t2 teams like splyce, and other teams.

I think getting golden is a mistake. It happens so often that players from EU rarely want to stay in NA after a certain period of time, if they can get him to fully commit to the team it could work but having a homesick player with 1 foot out the door is a failed formula. Also I recognize that there arent that many IGLs in NA so it's likely they will have to go international but if they can find one in NA itd be optimal imo.

Well yeah he may be homesick but it worked out with mixwell. Also i think he will be dedicated to the team and he has loads more experience than Fns. Since he spent a while on a T1 team unlike fns who was on CLG and Complexity both t2-3 teams.

It really didnt work with mixwell though they had a good run and then the team went to shit for multiple reasons and now he doesnt want to come back and play in NA again. Are you forgetting golden was from fnc academy and was on that team less than a year ago? It's not like Golden is hugely experienced over fns, fns has been in the scene longer and has been to tournaments of the same size. Not saying fns is a better choice but your points about golden dont have much weight. And yes a team house could be a good thing but sometimes it makes things even worse if cultures clash it can be hard to live with people. I guess well just have to wait and see but this has a decent possibility for reasons inside and outside of the server.

Imo the reason optic went to shit was because they kicked stanislaw who is a good IGL. After that they had no dedicated IGL and it seemed to go to shit. While yes golden was on FNC academy less than a year ago. He played against he top teams in the world and has beaten teams like Faze, NaVi,Astralis, And others. While FNS has been fighting splyce, Luminosity and European teams like heroic, godsent, and are on the same level with them.

While yes at IEM Katowice there was a huge preformance by flusha. Fnc had gone on a 2 year loosing streak. Having not won anything until Katowice. Imo golden was a major part in that since after his and lekr0s addition to the team the older players eemed rejuvenated and played well.

Yes i know we can go at this all day. But the addition pf Lekr0 and Golden did seem to revitalize the team thier first tournament they they placed in playofffs so not that bad. But we haven't really been able to compare current JDM to Nifty as JDM hasn't been on a roster in a while. I feel as though JDM is a better pick here just for the fact he is probably cheap and has experience in teams like this. JDM being out of the scene for a while doesnt really help your point as theres a chance he be rusty while nifty has been getting more experience. You're right jdm is the easier option but out of the 3 he has the lowest skill ceiling and is known for being very poor with rifles. Basically if you have JDM you cant play the scrappy aggressive style and have to focus on getting the AWP in his hands and enabling him as well as Tim in this situation. Cerq > all NA Awpers

What i'm saying is we don't know what practice JDM has gotten in since he has not been on a roster. He has been playing a lot of ESEA and FPL if you check his profiles. He has been getting a ton of practice in. He may have gotten better with rifles too. He had a long period to sit out and practice this. When Jdm was in CLG people compared him to prime Skadoodle

Yes hes a very streaky player though, obviously the AWP role needs to be addressed for c9 and JDM could fit if they employ the right system. I really hope he worked on his rifle skills that would give people no reason to doubt him and would fix some inconsistency issues.

Yesterday's match was something i wasn't expect. For me , cloud9 will lost badly both maps and actually, to be a team who joined 2 players in recently they did very well. STYKO still needs more work to do to help more on the team, GOLDEN for me did a very good match. Ska still can be better, but he did also a great match. Not a bad face of this cloud9.
