MIBR beat MVP PK to secure ZOTAC Cup Masters final spot

MIBR are through to the grand final at the ZOTAC Cup Masters after dispatching MVP PK 2-0.

The second match of the day in Hong Kong began with a strong start from MIBR on their opponents' map pick, Inferno, as they got out to a 3-0 lead following a fast A execute in the pistol. A triple kill from Hyun-Pyo "XigN" Lee then put MVP PK on the board, but the Brazilians hit back instantly to restore a three-round lead.

Contrary to expectations, MIBR ended up surrendering their lead. With XigN putting in the work, the South Korean side kept their defence very tight and took an 8-5 lead before the Brazilians secured the final two rounds of the half.

MVP PK further added to their lead by winning the pistol round, only to get caught off-guard by MIBR's CZs in the next round. The Asian team still tried to respond, but they could simply not find a way through the compact MIBR defence, especially on the B site, with the Brazilian side winning nine rounds straight to run out 16-9 winners.

MIBR will take on Kinguin for the ZOTAC Cup Masters title

Dust2, the map that followed, started with MVP PK winning the pistol round but then losing the subsequent anti-eco. Despite their best efforts, the South Korean side had no response to the swift attacking display of MIBR, who closed out the half with a commanding 12-3 lead.

A 1v2 clutch from Seon-Ho "xeta" Son in the second half pistol still gave MVP PK's fans some hope, but once MIBR bought up the pattern of the game changed immediately, with Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo's side quickly hitting match point. With no margin for error, the Terrorists upped the pace and started stringing rounds together, but their resistance was finally broken in the 26th round.

The important part is these teams have some really crazy aimers, a team with serious problems would lose to them pretty often.. as they were in their slump It's the more drilled teams that we need to see a bunch of matchups against, especially Astralis, but lets wait until we see them play NaVi Liquid FaZe mouz. Good signs though, they'll get a lot better yet

There's no reason to cheer: MIBR looked unconvincing, too often undecided and made too many errors. They narrowly won against a team which is ranked 52 but in their current form they stand no chance against Australis, Faze, Luquid and Navi. It's sad really.

Notice the rating were not under 1.0 either game ? contribution (KAST) and ADR is fine, his play has had a big effect on players following up. He's playing a more difficult role most of the time, eg dust2 CT pistol he's first contact at mid doors virtually no support, getting info and having to be reactive, extremely difficult not to just get flashed and steamrolled then they ambush stew on B for 90%+ round won already He's doing fine, will find his comfort zone as time goes on. He's made a significant role change in the past and became the most troublesome CT aggressor in the world within a year..

I actually just watched both gotv demos from his POV. Definitely looked a bit rusty, normally much smoother. I think he is showing signs of what SK were famous for, being rusty after player break and taking great benefit from the grind, eg that run after cs_summit where they won6 out of 7 tournaments in a row, they clearly got better and better. Was surprisingly decent stats considering circumstances in some rounds and how rusty he looked aim wise

That's the thing, they were a team who would grind out rounds, close games, win 2v2s and 3v3ish situations. So over long periods when teams are playing the same CS over the course or the tournament season they're going to be able to finish out those games by consistently winning clutches and close situations but after a break they arent going to have that same synergy or ability to always come out on top because they're rusty.

He used to have the freedom to make unexpected hard to deal with plays as CT, and be able to value his life much lower than almost any role in the game (except TACO space making, 'entry death' role as FalleN put it) Being able to disrupt the T's on their side of the map for the first 1/3rd of a round and often get a kill, sometimes more, or do damage to multiple players, exhaust T utility and give the other 4 significant info was ridiculously effective at times, e.g Overpass played into this style really well for a long time and the rest of the team were so strong in their positions they could make highly effective, earlier rotates and use less utility controlling the most important points of the map, stifling site entrypoints with utility, crossfires and flanks and so on We'll see how effective the overall formula is over time, but when they had felps I wished for him to become this different type of player, during C9's major run RUSH is a good example of a highly efficient.. "damage and control" player.. a ROCK. If they had let felps do his thing and had fer preserving his life, playing a supporting element imagine how the team could have progressed ? much of the positive effect it could have would have been 18months of other teams analysis mostly going in the bin because they weren't playing the same team at all anymore

Yep just like I said above, at least someone gets it. felps+fer could have worked because fer is just that good, IMO in this style he will become a dominant midround and damage CT player, and near unstoppable post plant force

I watched demos, he looked quite rusty aim wise too, expect him to be noticeably crisper in the final. Wasn't terrible hit some nice shots but just getting warmed up by the end it seemed Kinguin playing pretty good but if mibr don't demolish them it'll be very disappointing effort
