Astralis star Nicolai "⁠device⁠" Reedtz is the winner of the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award of FACEIT Major 2018 by HLTV.org and betway.

The Danish AWPer scoops the honour after inspiring Astralis to win the tournament with a team-leading 1.26 rating over the New Legends and the Champions stages.

device hit peaks in his team's Swiss stage victories against Vega Squadron (1.88 rating) and MIBR (2.19), but he remained a key contributor in the playoffs, posting just one below-average rating, on the first map against FaZe - a series in which he ended up being the top performer after putting on a show on Inferno.

device wins his third MVP of 2018

He was the hardest player to kill at the tournament, averaging 0.55 deaths per round, and was ranked third in rating, behind Denis "⁠electroNic⁠" Sharipov (1.36) and Oleksandr "⁠s1mple⁠" Kostyliev (1.34). The Na`Vi duo had been strong contenders for the MVP award heading into the final, along with Astralis' Emil "⁠Magisk⁠" Reif and Peter "⁠dupreeh⁠" Rasmussen - two players device wound up outshining not just in terms of rating but also impact in round wins.

This is the eighth MVP award of device's career, the third this year after winning the medal at the ECS Season 5 Finals and at ELEAGUE Premier. During Astralis' first Major success, it had been Markus "⁠Kjaerbye⁠" Kjærbye to win the honour after an impressive grand final showing.

he's the definition of playing the percentages, the most of Astralis probably. They're the team that consider saving 4v4 instead of retaking and win games like that. You can call it what you want but he's just the guy always making the victory as certain as possible. Also, theoretically speaking, the AWPer should always save the most.

people say that he lives off of eco and exit-frags, that he is too passive and that he doesn't have enough impact. neither of which is true. he is consistently one of the players in astralis with most opening frags (only topped by magisk in this tournament i believe) and counting his eco-frags, you'll see that he's actually one of the ones who farms the least amount.

yeah pretty sure only xyp gets less eco kills than him

Without a "major upgrade", for my graph s1mple has 98 points and devve has 96. With major win+mvp, he now has 101 points which is better than s1mple. EGB & HLTV look on these important tournaments more, too. It works like this: do a 2 rating2.0 on tier3 event = do a 1.25 rating2.0 on tier1 event. s1mple was good until the end, but at the end, devVe and co got him.

I admit I didn't watch groupstage but in palyoffs dupreeh was much much better HLTV have introduced so many different stats nowadays that they can just make any player look good if they pick the right ones. some exmaples: - when happy was LMS all the time, he got massively downrated in the top20 players in 2015, even though his team won 8 tournaments. Now suddenly, players always get massive props for having few deaths per round. - impact in key rounds vs rating. What a stupid argument to have, when rating 2.0 is supposed to account for impact anyway (plot twist: it doesn't ofcourse) - Rating in play-offs/ in close games/ vs high ranked teams: Sometimes it matters, this time it did not :>

I just like to say shitty things to shitty persons, because they deserve it. They are so full of their egos, I liked complete Astralis back in time when Kjaerbye was in line up, and yes I like Magisk also, and I still like him, but it's not always all in CS. device seems like so full of his ego, as well as gla1ve and xyp9x, dupreeh is great guy, too, btw.
