NiP pull off comeback vs. Astralis; Cloud9 upset MIBR

The favourite for the tournament, Astralis, fell to Ninjas in Pyjamas on Overpass (16-14), while Cloud9, playing with their coach Soham "⁠valens⁠" Chowdhury, upset MIBR on Inferno (16-13).

Astralis ran up a 5-0 lead on the CT side of Overpass quickly, locking down the second round after some early equal trades in the party area. After an eco, Ninjas in Pyjamas finally got on the board by hitting the B site, forcing Astralis to save two guns, with a similar situation repeating in the following round, this time on A. (6-2)

The Swedes extended their streak to three rounds when Emil "⁠Magisk⁠" Reif and Nicolai "⁠device⁠" Reedtz combined with two and three kills, respectively, to get Astralis back on track. The Danish team ended the half dominantly, 11-4 up, but Christopher "⁠GeT_RiGhT⁠" Alesund and Patrik "⁠f0rest⁠" Lindberg, with two apiece, gave Ninjas in Pyjamas the win in the CT pistol and a chance to come back in the second half.

NiP completed the comeback against Astralis

Round after round went the way of the Ninjas and they brought the score down to 11-9 before Astralis got their first T round on the board off of Lukas "⁠gla1ve⁠" Rossander's clutch. However, Ninjas in Pyjamas instantly replied with a strong Mid hold, forced Astralis on pistols and allowed Ninjas in Pyjamas to tie up the score at 12-12.

The back and forth continued towards the end of the game and the teams were once again locked in a tie, 14-14, when Astralis faked out Ninjas in Pyjamas and got into the B site. However, they weren't able to hold it against the better-equipped Swedes who won the round, and then the game, 16-14.

After picking up the CT pistol on Inferno, Cloud9 went on to extend their lead by shutting down MIBR's long push in the first buy. The North American side, playing with their coach valens, made the score 5-0, when MIBR got themselves into a 2v3 after plant on A. Tarik "⁠tarik⁠" Celik and Jake "⁠Stewie2K⁠" Yip got the first two kills, but Timothy "⁠autimatic⁠" Ta was able to clutch it out against his former teammates and keep a clean slate for Cloud9. (6-0)

MIBR shortly got on the board after securing a 3v3 after plant on A and got a second as Fernando "⁠fer⁠" Alvarenga and Stewie2K found entries with pistols. (7-2) With tarik spearheading for his side, MIBR managed to tie together five rounds, eventually ending the half just 8-7 down.

MIBR got the lead for the first time in the map by claiming the pistol and the followup, but a 1v2 clutch from autimatic on the B site had the map all tied up again at 9-9. From that point onwards, Cloud9 continued running over MIBR's defences on both sites and claiming rounds, barring one they lost due to the time running out. Without Gabriel "⁠FalleN⁠" Toledo's troops being able to reply, Cloud9 closed out the game, 16-13.
