Golden ruled out for ECS Season 6 Finals; valens to stand in

For the second time in one month, Cloud9's coach will fill in for Maikil "Golden" Selim, who will miss the entirety of the Texas event because of ongoing health issues, FACEIT have confirmed to HLTV.org.

Golden will miss action at the second event in a row, as the Swedish in-game leader also sat out the first day of matches at BLAST Pro Series Copenhagen 2018 earlier this month.

The 24-year-old came back to play on the second day in the Danish capital, but FACEIT have now confirmed to HLTV.org that he will also miss the ECS Season 6 Finals in Arlington, Texas due to health issues. Standing in for the Swede will be Cloud9's coach Soham "valens" Chowdhury, who also took over in Copenhagen.

Golden will miss another event due to his health

In spite of retiring as a player in 2015, valens held his own at BLAST Pro Series, as the 29-year-old garnered a 0.93 rating over two maps, including a best-on-one win against MIBR.

After the first day of matches, valens said in an interview with HLTV.org that he still plays a lot with teammates and friends, and also stated that he believes the best way of being a coach is to "keep playing the game, stay up to date with the meta.".

With Golden ruled out for the ECS Season 6 Finals, Cloud9 will field the following lineup in Texas:

Sweden Robin "flusha" Rönnquist
France Fabien "kioShiMa" Fiey
United States William "RUSH" Wierzba
United States Timothy "autimatic" Ta
United States Soham "valens" Chowdhury

Jokes m8. It is weird to me that a lot gamers have like long term health issues. Like Golden and device and gtr. Then again “gamer lifestyle” was typically unhealthy.

I think it's just that a lot of people get health issues, not just gamers, you're just noticing it more in this environment. It's still a minority of players getting these problems. But there are some health issues directly related to gaming like olofmeisters old wrist problem or whatever it was. This is also a much more intensive and demanding way of playing video games than playing when off sick from school.

It doesn't make too much sense even for me, but is it ridicoulos to state the difference between Golden and valens isn't that big? I mean valens did really great in Blast PRO, I was really impressed in general. He was doing his job well and I can't see too much of an improvement with Golden, which seems to be dumb to say. But is it? Since early 2018 and the two titles, there is nothing for Golden to show or impress, at least for me. For sure I underestimate him, or more especially the relevance of his IGL abilities, but logic tells me this and not actual experiences. I hope he will prove himself, for now he seems to be replaceable though.
