GameGune 2009Johnta: "Ready to face any team"
HLTV.org sat down with DTS.chatrix's Ivan "Johnta" Shevcov and asked the Ukrainian several questions about the upcoming GameGune event.
DTS.chatrix are one of the strongest contenders for the GameGune trophy, a competition that will take place next week in Bilbao, Spain.
After adding Ioan "Edward" Sukhariev from pro100 to their ranks, DTS have become an improved side and recently won their first big competition, ASUS Spring Cup, with the new line-up.
At DreamHack Summer, though, they exited the event at the quarter-finals following a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Millenium. They are now looking for better fortunes at GameGune, where they are one of the top seeded teams.
What do you know about the teams of your group?
Both Frag-eXecutors & eSport-Eu have good players and a pretty good CS level. I can't say anything about XIX, because it's the first time I have heard about them. Anyway, it's going to be a hard tournament with a lot of strong teams so we are going to be ready for tough matches with any opponent.
Which team at GameGune do you fear the most?
Hm... actually no-one. We feel our game is good and we are ready to face any team in the world.
What are DTS.chatrix's goals for this tournament?
A Top 3 placing.
Just days before GameGune, you will play Arbalet Cup. Aren't you afraid that some of the teams you will face in the group stage might be watching your tactics?Yep, a little bit. But we will save some extra ideas for GameGune.
Two months ago, you announced Edward as your last player. What has changed in the team since he joined?
Edward is an amazing player. He has added more aggressive stuff to our playing style. Plus, since we added him, we have become stronger in a psychological way.
How have your team been practicing for GameGune? Any special practice regime?
Yes, we have already gathered and started our practice in our main training base - Chatrix internet cafe. Also, we go to gym three days a week and play some sports before CS training starts.
At Dreamhack Summer, your team crashed out at the quarter-final stage after losing to Millenium. Was that a surprising result?Actually, yes. We felt our game was good after the group stage. But we are a team that fight with itself more than with opponents. It's like we can show a very good level one day, and lose to a weaker opponent the next day. I'm not saying Millenium was weaker, they played very well during the whole tournament... we just didn't show our real level.
After GameGune, what tournaments will DTS.chatrix attend?
We have got two online leagues - CGL UA & SuperCup. The Online qualifiers are almost finished and we are waiting for the LAN finals in August-September. We will also have to defend our winning status at ASUS Open Series at the end of August. And the main event for us will be the Ukrainian WCG qualifier.
What is your opinion on Virtus.pro, who will be at both Arbalet Cup and GameGune?They changed Xenitron for Dio, so I can't predict their level now. All I know is that they have got very good players, so it could be a surprise for any team they will face.
As the only Ukrainian team at the event, you will be under pressure from the Ukrainian fans, who saw Amazing Gaming finish third last year. Are you worried about this pressure?Not at all. We are not worried about this kind of stuff.
