ESL announces more nominees

The Electronic Sports League has announced the nominees in three other categories featuring Counter-Strike.

The ESL announced on Monday the nominees for the "eSports Player of the Year" award, with the likes of Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund and Filip "Neo" Kubski in contention.

It has now released the list of nominees for "eSport Team of the Year", "Best Counter-Strike Player" and "Breakthrough of the Year".

In the first category, we see fnatic and mTw in the running for the accolade, together with World of Warcraft duo Button Bashers and Nihilum Paslma and Counter-Strike Source squad VeryGames.

In the category for best Counter-Strike player, mTw and fnatic lead the list with two players each, while the last name belongs to WICKED.

In the last category, fnatic's Rasmus "GuX" Ståhl is the only Counter-Strike player nominated.

eSport Team of the Year:

Sweden fnatic (CS 1.6)
Denmark mTw (CS 1.6)
Korea Button Bashers (WoW)
United Kingdom Nihilum Plasma (WoW)
France Verygames (CS:S)

Best Counter-Strike Player:

Denmark Alexander "ave" Holdt
Sweden Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg
Sweden Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund
Poland Filip "NEo" Kubski
Denmark Christoffer "Sunde" Sunde

    Breakthrough of the Year:

Sweden Rasmus "GuX" Ståhl (CS 1.6)
Spain Pedro Moreno "LucifroN" Durán (WC3)
Korea Kang Nae "Orangemarmalade" Hyun (WoW)
United States Shane "rapha" Hendrixson (Quake)
Korea Park Chul "Shy" Woo (WC3)

The winner of each category will be announced at the eSports Awards cerimony in August.

fnatic Get-Right Orangemarmalade (GODDAMN!) but instead of Orange it'll probably be GuX, WoW is by far not efamous enough.

if you mean by famous you mean a higher quantity of people playing... that true. but in terms of tournaments, competitive players, number of top teams, number of spectators and demo downloaders... the list goes on... cs is still #1 without even being challenged, wc3 and sc are still > wow too.

If you take in consideration, since the last award was handed out, if you ask me, mTw sure continued going strong. fnatic did kick in heavy in 2009, but mTw still took EMIII.eu and finished top5 in other events.

Yeah, but do not forget, that last year they won, so this time GTR and fnatic will win the awards I guess. WoW is quiet a new thing in eSport level, so I think they will honour a WoW team in the "best team" category and breakthrough award will probably go to LucifroN.

People do seem to be forgetting the last half of 2008 which surely must be included in this award? As far as I remember fnatic did really poorly in that period..

You can see it too the other way round, poor or not that impressive mTw this year and fnatic on cruising mode. Both teams would that way be pretty even. The solution? By the end of the near, give the prizes and that way people will suffer less "headaches" trying to remember which team did what in the past or in the present ;)

People tend to remember the latest events, and forget about earlier matches. Moreover GTR is one of the reasons, why fnatic could became superior than mTw in 2009 after a long time of Danish dominance. I see your point, that why would mTw be a good choice as well, but the jury will think differently I guess. The victory of GTR and fnatic has a bigger and more epic story, and every ceremony needs this kind of hype.

I follow you on that point, still think fnatic's event wins overshadow the results of mTw in the second half of 2008.

yes, they might. but then if we count 2008, SK should be nominated aswell since they won some events at the last half, aswell as finishing second in several events this year.

At some point (not for a long time imo) mTw was just so much better than any other team. They just won all the other teams so easily and dominated the cs scene. I would give them the award for that. I can't remember any other team that has been the certain nr1, winning all of the other teams so easily. But, unfortunately, that time is over for mtw now.

i guess people are forgetting what was last year pretty quickly and concentrate their attention on the last events. so with all due respect to mtw guys and their achievments in 2008, i think that fnatic actually has bigger chance to collect the award.

Fnatic for sure, be serious people. They are dominating way to much. Get-Right since he apparently is the reason Fnatic is doing so well and even helped Lemondogs win a tournament. Come on Gux? Hes good but he is no were near the amazing levels that LucifroN has showed in WC3. Kid came out of nowhere to dominate serious competition. My second vote would be Orange since he pretty much made WoW respectable in Korea.

you're right. gtr has great influence on his teammates no matter who they are. that's kind of odd considering that he doesn't seem to be so social and friendly, but what do i know. maybe it's the other way around :).

sunde? sure he is one of the best AWPer and allrounders. But in 2009 GeT_RiGhT has been playing better. however, in 2008 sunde was probably one of the best so you might not be too wrong. GTR has been the MVP of like every event this year? got to mean something aswell?

yep but Sunde was the best in 2008, the same like mTw so this player should win this. GTR wasn't good enough in 2008 but in this year he is awsome.

I cannot talk for the WoW-scene at the best, but my point of view on Counter-Strike it will end like this. Fnatic GeT_RiGhT Gux Those above really deserve their prizes. mTw should receive creds for also dishing up a plate of awesomeness.

1st: fnatic fnatic got 2 new players a while ago now, but they managed to get back on track and has beaten mTw once or twice now, I don't remember exactly. Also WICKED has beaten mTw and therefore I would vote on fnatic. 2nd: GeT_RiGhT GTR has shown a lot of good play since he joined fnatic and has helped fnatic in a lot of situations as well. Not only to get the team to run smooth but they also got a great player. I think he also helped Gux with gaining confidence playing in a top team like fnatic. 3rd: Gux Gux is like Sunde last year. We didn't hear or see anything to him, but after he joined fnatic he has shown great play and been a lot in the light. He's a really god player and deserve the nomination. Also, the list is too short and I don't know any of the other players really. This is just my point of view of it - so don't come with stupid comments if not needed.

You got it wrong.. 1. In my opinion first "come back" from fnatic was when they won their first tournament after many months, ending 1st and mtw 3rd.. How that happened? Semi final, and final match on de_nuke.. imagine being train ( mtw would destroy them and wicked after that ). After that tournament it was their bad psycho from the loss and their dissapointment of mtw organisation, thats why they didn't end 1st in all of those tournaments. 2. Get_Right.. Ok i agree he is a great player, but come on.. things that f0rest has done are far more greater than he has ever thought about.. Ave with his planning abilities and wisdom in the game is far greater aswell.. And Sunde I think has shown great ability this year and exception from his other teammates. So I do not agree with your decision on putting getright the best.. i would choose sunde or f0rest. 3. Ok GuX was a really great "WOW" in this year, but since you do not know about the other dudes in the list i wont judge you for that, but in my opinion is orange. This is also my opinion, and its not a comment to make you angry but a comment of happiness :PPP hehe

I agree that f0rest is a great player, one of my favourites together with Sunde actually. But both players has been too random this year, in my opinion, while GTR has done very well.
