Astralis beat MIBR to go 3-0 in São Paulo

Astralis have picked up their third victory at BLAST Pro Series São Paulo after taking down MIBR 16-10 in a one-sided Overpass game.

The third round of matches at Ginásio do Ibirapuera, the first to feature a live audience, featured a mouth-watering clash between hometown favourites MIBR and the No.1 team in the world, Astralis. The Brazilians have always had close matches against their Danish rival, but this time around they had the added pressure of fighting for their tournament lives in São Paulo after losing their opening matches in the tournament.

MIBR did not let that pressure get to them and came out the brighter of the two sides, picking up a 3-1 lead after winning the pistol round thanks to a 1v3 clutch by Marcelo "⁠coldzera⁠" David. The enthusiasm of the crowd seemed to transmit to the server as the Brazilians instantly traded back Astralis' first gun round victory, but back-to-back triple-kills by Lukas "⁠gla1ve⁠" Rossander - the worst-rated player at the tournament heading into the second day - silenced the arena and put the Danes back in the game.

Astralis were far too hot for MIBR to handle

Once Astralis found their footing, MIBR struggled to keep up. Nicolai "⁠device⁠" Reedtz was a nuisance across the map, ending the first half on 19 kills, as the Danes kept the Terrorists at bay to pick up a commanding 11-4 lead.

There was more misery to come for MIBR and the home crowd as Astralis ran riot in a B execute in the pistol round to further add to their lead. The final straw was in the first gun round, when the Brazilians surrendered a 4v2 advantage and gave Andreas "⁠Xyp9x⁠" Højsleth enough room to pull off a clutch.

Down 4-15, MIBR still attempted a response, but their resistance was broken in the 26th round, when Astralis put the game to bed, leaving the Brazilians mathematically out of the race for a spot in the final.
