ESL Pro League Season 9 Round 2 day one recap
The first day of ESL Pro League Season 9 round 2 has come to an end, with most of the favourites coming out on top of their matches.
The regular season of ESL Pro League Season 9 entered on Tuesday its concluding stage in Europe and in the Americas, with six spots on the line at the LAN Finals in Montpellier on the line.
The first match of the European league, in Leicester, saw a clash between OpTic and fnatic, where the Green Wall withstood the Swedish offense after three maps. The teams exchanged their respective map picks in Inferno (16-13) and Nuke, the latter of which saw a 19-16 overtime victory for fnatic. The series came down to Dust2, which was convincingly taken by Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen and his men at 16-7.

Next on the agenda was a face-off between HellRaisers and Aristocracy. Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas and company, previously known as devils.one, went for a Vertigo pick, a gamble that did not pay off as they lost the map 16-10 due to a weak CT-side performance. Overpass ensued, where Kyrylo "ANGE1" Karasiow led his squad to a comfortable 2-0 series victory, concluding with a close 16-13 victory on the map.
Across the pond, Renegades took on the rebranded Complexity in battle with stand-ins on both sides as Jaccob "yay" Whiteaker replaced Ricardo "Rickeh" Mulholland in the North American team, while Owen "smooya" Butterfield filled in for Sean "Gratisfaction" Kaiwai in the Australian squad.
Initially, affairs looked bleak for the American team, who conceded Nuke with a blowout 4-16 scoreline, with only two rounds per half secured. Amends were made on Dust2, where a 7-8 T half was followed up with a 9-4 defence, taking the series to map three. It was on Mirage that Aaron "AZR" Ward and his squad asserted dominance, besting Complexity with a 16-8 scoreline.

Concluding the day was a series between MIBR and Isurus. The Argentinian side found themselves on the back foot early on and lost their map pick, Dust2, by a 16-10 scoreline. Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo's squad proceeded to close out the series on Overpass, but not without struggle, as Isurus took the established quintet the full distance before losing the game 16-14.
