DreamHack Masters Dallas 2019North edge past Vitality; Liquid beat Lucid Dream in DH Masters openers
North edged past Vitality on Overpass, 16-14, while Liquid defeated Lucid Dream, 16-7, on Dust2, in the first two matches in Dallas.
The match between North and Vitality kicked off on Overpass, with doubles by Philip "aizy" Aistrup and Nicklas "gade" Gade giving the Danes the first round on an A attack. After three rounds, it was Nathan "NBK-" Schmitt who with a triple with the AUG on the first gun round tilted the balance to get his team on the board. Vitality then went on to take a 4-3 lead, prompting North to take their first timeout after a technical pause. A nadestack on B followed by a CZ75 rush gave North an eco round win to tie it back up.
Another B play by North broke Vitality’s money, making it 6-4, but NBK- and Alex "ALEX" McMeekin then turned around a 2vs3 to keep it within one. A triple by Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut with the MP9 then brought it back to a tie. The French side then won out, 9-6, to take the lead at the half.
A 1vs2 by Jakob "JUGi" Hansen with a bomb defusal gave North the first round of the second half, which they were able to follow up to make it 8-9. With an AK in hand [p,zyw started to put in work, getting a triple in the third round to keep Vitality in the lead. The French team then took control of proceedings on the attacking side, winning round after round up to a 14-8 lead. Doubles by aizy and Markus "Kjaerbye" Kjærbye got North back on the board, prompting them to go on a streak to tie it back up, 14-14. The Danes then kept up the defenses, going on match point before closing it out, 16-14.

Despite an opening kill by Nick "nitr0" Cannella on the attacking side of Dust2, it was Lucid Dream who took the first round, but four kills with the Desert Eagle by Keith "NAF" Markovic made it 1-1 on the following round. After Liquid took a 3-1 lead, a double by Jirayu "wannafly" Meesuk and triple by Phoomphat "qqGOD" Phodjanat kept it within one. Liquid then took the reins, making it 7-2, but another triple by qqGOD got the Thai team another round on the board on the tenth round. With Kritthee "Geniuss" Sawatmuang and qqGOD at the helm, Lucid Dream brought it to within one, 6-7, although Liquid eventually took the lead at the half, 8-7.
On the CT side, Liquid immediately took charge again, winning the pistol round and following it up. They showed complete superiority on defense, then, going on to win every single round that half to close the map and match out, crushing the Thai team’s dreams of upsetting, 16-7.
