Virtus.pro, Ancient round off team list for EU Minor closed qualifier

Virtus.pro and Ancient have claimed the final spots in the closed qualifier for the Europe Minor after finishing top two in the fourth open bracket.

The second day of the open qualifier, featuring the 16 teams who had survived the grueling opening day, saw Virtus.pro claim the first spot in the open bracket. The Polish team opened up the action with a comfortable victory over Nexus but were made to work hard to come out on top of the mouth-watering clash with Aristocracy in the quarter-final stage, coming back from 7-14 down to take the derby to overtime, in which they would come out victorious.

In the semi-finals, Virtus.pro took on ad hoc, who had defeated another Polish team, PACT, in the previous round. The Germans were simply outplayed in this best-of-three series, however, as Virtus.pro quickly dispatched their opponents, who could not even hit double digits on either map.

Virtus.pro will be the sole Polish representative in the closed qualifier

The qualification comes as a massive boost for Virtus.pro, who have been outside the top 50 in the rankings since February and are still trying to adjust to life without Paweł "⁠byali⁠" Bieliński, who stepped down from the roster last month after growing increasingly unhappy with the team's results.

Virtus.pro, who have in Janusz "⁠Snax⁠" Pogorzelski their only player left from the iconic squad that won the EMS One Katowice 2014 Major and ELEAGUE Season 1, will be Poland's only hope of having a team at the Major, as teams like AGO, Aristocracy, PACT and byali's MIKSTURA all failed to survive the qualifying stages.

Meanwhile, Ancient came through their side of the bracket unscathed, exacting revenge on the FrenchFrogs for the defeat in the previous qualifier, before taking down AGO and breezing past fellow Swedish side Chaos in the last-four stage.

In the closed qualifier, which will run from June-10-12, William "⁠draken⁠" Sundin could face two of his former teams, fnatic and GamerLegion. Just days after the tournament, Ancient will be competing at DreamHack Summer, for which they qualified by topping the Swedish qualifier.

They have potential but they didn't show it on server (sad). We all know Snax was in top5 2017 but he falled down. Michu was close to get mvp of v4 future esports festival. Snatchie is great sniper as he show us in ago in Starrlader Kiev.

did you just actually compare vitality that have 4 players that played their whole life on top level and 1 superstar with VP that have only snax who knows how it is to play on top level and 4 players that were stuck in lower tiers for the whole life until old VP disbanded. otherwise they would've stayed there

Not sure if youre right, didn't follow the polish scene so much at the time. What I can say is that TOAO is my fav polish IGL and if they would give him more time in VP he would do the work in my opinion

better than two unexperienced players I knew who Vegi was, but I never heard from the other guy, and he's the only pro whose name I struggle to write down TOAO would be better absolutely

They could've gotten better players for sure, but looks like MICHU finally got back to his confident style and Snatchie is an amazing awper. I think VP can do some damage soon, OKOLICIOUZ (I think that's his name) and Vegi just need a bit more experience. Hope that VP will not become second G2 by just robbing the whole polish scene and destroying talents.

they should rework regions too. CIS shouldnt exist considering they have good enough pings. also ironic russians dont even have their own servers on MM so clearly valve agrees. EU+CIS - 5 spots (take away 1 from minor play-in) Asia+Turkey(from EU)+Kazakhstan(from CIS) - 2 spots NA+SA - 3 spots (take away 1 from minor play-in)

Difference is Kazakhstan is actually is in Asia. If they can't beat them then they shouldn't be in a major. Also they would probably do separate qualifiers as they do them right now so they can control the number of Kazakhstan teams. And even then I don't think ex-Gambit is that good to consistently beat teams like Tyloo, vici, grayhound etc.
